ABOUT DRESSRELIEF
My name is Mariel, and I started getting into fashion in the past few years and am learning so much about it. I'm drawn to fashion as I believe it is an art form that not only allows individuals to express themselves but also creates a history and record of different time periods and generations. I've had a lot of fun learning how to put together outfits and use different styles to tell a story through the way I dress. I started this channel to share what I learn along my fashion journey and hopefully help others learn and find their style as well.
I post videos at least every other week, mostly regarding fashion but may include a few beauty/makeup and lifestyle related videos as well. If you're interested in this content, please give my channel a shot and subscribe!

As someone that grew up in that era, mori kei fashion and fairycore fashion look very different to me. Mori layers a lot of traditional Scandinavian patterns in a sophisticated way, showcasing that raw "folk costume" lifestyle. Meanwhile, fairycore is too clean, too pure. It's just simple, dreamy European dresses.

i think mori kei is closer to fairy grunge rather than fairycore, both have lots of greens and browns, knit details, layering, etc

Yeah mori kei feels more hippie and natural while fairycore live in forest fantasy.

I mean no offense at all, but some of this (just speaking on the Mori section) was not really accurate. When you learn about the Mori Girl aesthetic from the official Japanese sources it is about 98% unakin to Cottagecore and Fairycore. It's actually not quite as foresty as people tend to assume and is definitely not vintagey. The only thing vintagey about it is that sometimes there are brown suitcases that can look old but aren't necessarily actually old. White dresses are also not actually a part of Mori Girl fashion. Mori Girl fashion deals with mostly earthy colored fabrics with laced or plain edges, layers and Nordic type prints, and sometimes. Any white dresses would typically be used as an under-layer rather than worn alone. The fabrics in Mori Girl are also often patched together so one dress might have several different styles of fabric sewed together to make almost a splash outfit. Or at least this seems the most popular of the Mori styles but it's not even the usual of the Mori styles from the official magazines. Cottages are also not part of the aesthetic at all. Animals, flowers and herbs are but they are worked into the fashion or home decor in very delicate ways and are also not a major theme according to the official Japanese sources. These days we have so many aesthetics and most don't have any real book on them to tell you exactly what they are or should be so there's a lot of interpretation and almost no distinction between some of them. Mori Girl got pulled into that and so now people don't quite understand what it really is, but the Japanese magazine archives can be found on a blogspot called "idontknowmuchbutimstilllearning." It's pretty extensive and the more you look into it, the more you can tell it's really quite different from anything like Cottagecore or Fairycore. It's also quite different from what is usually pushed by more Mori focused sources as Mori. I feel there's no really good idea of what Mori is available except for in these official magazines. I was kind blown when I first saw them like "Wow this is nothing like what I keep seeing on Pinterest/Google/YT 🤔😲."

As someone who has been wearing lolita for 5 years, and is also getting into other Jfashions like mori kei, this was a good introduction for beginners, and I appreciate the links to other information sources for lolita as it has the strictest ruleset of the Jfashions I am familiar with. All the information was mostly correct, with the only 'incorrect' things being things you will likely discover for yourself doing more research on each fashion and becoming more familiar with the look and feel of each one. I'd hesitate to call this a deep dive as it felt like very surface level information, however this does make it very accessible to people looking to learn more and can be an easy jumping off point for finding a new style for someone, which I appreciate. Overall good little video!

Yaaaay so happy to see you! And so excited you did a video on Japanese aesthetics 😊 Japanese fashion has been a major influence for me since I was in high school (a loooong time ago), and I remember lovingly paging through prized imported Japanese fashion mags as a teen and thinking how forward thinking they always were. Some of my issues were a couple years old at the time, and the styles were JUST becoming popular then. There’s just so much thought and beauty and consideration involved in even the “simplest” outfit, I just love it so much! Would love for you to do more videos on Japanese aesthetics - their “Fruits” street style, “gyaru” style, and of course Lolita. Thank you so so much again for creating such a wonderful and nostalgic video 💗💗💗 **edited for typos**

@@dressrelief omg I only had them out of the kindness of some of my father’s coworkers who were Japanese and would bring us souvenirs from their trips back home, but man oh man, they were fantastic 🥹 Actually one of the reasons I’m having so much fun with fashion right now (in addition to my kids being a bit older and sort of finding myself again) is the resurgence of styles like yours, the same ones I used to see in those magazines and desperately try to emulate (chunky school loafers with ridiculously baggy socks for days!!!). I love your videos because you’re so resourceful and mindful of using the things you own, and it reminds me of my fav spreads from those and other magazines where they would show you a month of outfits with only like 15 pieces, and then throughout the month they would insert strategical purchases to supplement, but it was never too much. These days it’s called a capsule wardrobe, but back in the day, it was just what you did 😂 Wow I’m so sorry for these long comments !!!!! Just really appreciate you, so thanks again!😊

@@alisastevens2508 aw thank you so much! I’m a child of immigrant parents and was always taught to not be wasteful and use what u have, and i feel like in addition to being sustainable it really does help a lot with creativity! Sometimes i challenge myself to come up with outfits for an item i haven’t worn in a while. Im so glad i have this little platform to promote that and encourage others to do the same! And i think I’m gonna have check out the japanese market near me for some fashion magazines now, sounds like great inspo!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share and educate people on the origins some of these “core”s ngl as a lover of history, art and Japanese fashion I was finding it disheartening that a lot of people had no idea about the fashion history. I feel privileged to have witnessed this wild evolution myself and you’ve articulated so much of this so well. Dolly Kei and Visual Kei influence me heavily still 🤍✨🦋
