Ritchie was satisfied here because Gillan's voice was great at this concert. But after, some times in 1985 and on, his voice was terrible. This annoyed Blackmore because he knew that Ian just wanted to party and not take proper care of his throat.
@aquamarine99911
@aquamarine99911 6 лет назад
So true. People tend to blame Ritchie, and Gillan always comes across well - i.e. smart and urbane - in interviews. But he's an idiot not to take care of his instrument (and remember his lyrics). I had the experience in a cover band where we found out the singer could sing really high, and we did the Police's Walking on the Moon; It sounded great in rehearsal. Then at the gig, the singer sounded like crap, and it was embarrassing to have to play the song to its conclusion. The singer later admitted he had gone out drinking the night before. Why??? Don't you get enough of a charge out of being able to sing that well in front of people. Still pisses me off, years later.

perfectionist? he was barely hanging on through the last half of the solo. now i understand this is live and he is influential but i can't understand why everybody sucks up to whatever he is doing. this here is definitely not a good example of the traits that i usually hear about blackmore. it wasn't perfect, far from it and it's quite obvious. that being said, everybody else was playing absolutely great here and that alone carried his solo in this case. if you'd solo blackmore's channel and listen to him without anything else, you'd be surprised

@@blairdrummond5043 yeah, this was sloppy as hell. at one point before Ian helps him he almost completely lost it and was barely hanging on through most of the solo. also the tone is really not that good. dry as hell, scratchy and thin. it sounds really really bad at some points. now maybe this was a bad night for him so i won't judge him by this. i just wouldn't call this "clean and clear" lol

I saw them on this tour. Magnificent! I've seen tons of bands, but Deep Purple was the loudest show I've ever been to. My ears were ringing & hurt TWO days later. Only time that's ever happened to me. My friend had his fingers in his ears for most of the concert, and we were several sections away from the stage. The local newspaper review mentioned that about 30 people were treated for hearing damage at the arena that night. But...it was worth it! What a show, they were in top form.

Ritchie is being sarcastic with Gillan at that moment. I believe Gillan interrupting solos actually annoyed Ritchie. Fans love to hear those solos and Gillan actually interrupts that at times, so possibly viewed as rude, one of the many things they don't get along over. Ritchie Blackmore has said numerous times, music is a serious thing for him... and he has always gotten aggrevated if something was going wrong with the show whether it be the soundboard, or cameras blocking fans view or something backstage etc.. It seems to suck the motivation out of him and he'd just get pissed and figure "fuck it" Being honest, I do think Gillan is a big instigator but I've heard in the days that Ritchie could be a real asshole too, so they just knew how to push each others buttons. But Gillan would do it while on stage which was no place for it, when people have paid to see them. The moment Gillan would realize something he was doing annoyed Blackmore, he'd push it. Their smiles to one another on stage were mostly not friendly... more like "oh yeh you prick?" Being in that band must have been like walking on eggshells to be honest... at some point the $$$ isn't worth it

@@grigorirasputin9507 For the most part I think you're right. They both admit now that they pushed each others buttons but to me it looked like in this case they were having fun with this. Gillan looks at Ritchie and he nods yes and Ian starts singing along and that looks like a real smile from Ritchie and when he really speeds it up he is looking at Ian like come on keep up. I thought they were having fun with it.
