I think this is the single greatest live rock n roll song performance ever captured. Just amazing. 100 miles per hour. Drums are basically a rolling drum solo start to finish. Iconic organ and guitar solos. Fantastic bass especially the walking bass near the end of the guitar solo. Killer vocal.
The reason why Blackmore's solo isn't covered in the video is that it is a scam video - it is not from Made in Japan, this is footage of Copenhagen, with the Made in Japan version played on top. It is a fake video. Blackmore fluffed the solo in Copenhagen, or at least doesn't play the amazing version that appears on MIJ, so the person who uploaded the video - who knew he was making a fake video - edited the Copenhagen footage to sync with the MIJ soundtrack. Where the video doesn't match the sound, stock footage fromelsewhere in the video is used. That's why the solos aren't shown - because then you'd see that the playing on the video is not the playing on the soundtrack. It's doubly ironic that you think that this fake video is the greatest song performance ever captured... Can't people spot lipsyncing or fake videos these days, even when it's painfuly obvious?
This band, among many other things, mastered balance. All the instruments compliment & allow space for each other while remaining heavy. One of the finest English live hard rock albums of the 1970’s.
@@peen897 Okay, so you're a real person who's brought it upon himself to spam a comment that no one agrees with. You should've just pretended you were a bot, that would've been less embarrassing.
@@mr.mikeyg.5282 Man I'll say used to run a circuit through the city. All the muscle cars that ran that circuit. and women. We used to drag race across a bridge that ran across the river. Deep Purple 8 track blasting away in my Hi performance 289 Mustang GT. Those were the days. Those days are gone. And best music also. Saw Deep Purple in 1972. Machine Head tour. That was awesome.
My brother had this album and played it all the time. One of my many favorites! Gave me an appreciation for live music. Sounds so much better than the studio version.
I was just going to write about that lol. The old school editing was brutal with these bands. Black Sabbath playing Paranoid in Paris live is the same. All about Ozzy shaking his head while Tony is playing his butt off beside him but no love from the cameras. Same with Bill Ward. At least we have recordings of these!
Considering John Lord formed the band, hes prob one of the best rock keyboardists ever, Deep Purple wouldve defo not been as famous without his mesmerizing speed of playing. LEGEND.
Can't think of any band or group today that could match the talent of the rock bands of the 60's & 70's . These group of guys set the bar exponentially high.
You must not be listening to much rock then lol. Prog rock and prog metal are constantly pushing boundaries. Go listen to Haken, Leprous, Polyphia, Tool, or a hundred other bands in the genre
@@peen897 go finish your homework you pathetic lifeless coomer 🤣, kid probably doesn’t have the strength to pick up a guitar and is spamming the same unfunny lame joke on every comment
Made In Japan changed my life back in 1975..I was a "Chart Boy" until my friend played this album to me, that was it a life changing experience for sure, I never knew such music excisted. Still listen to this album over 40 years later !
I’m 68 and I still remember seeing and hearing Deep Purple during their MACHINE HEAD tour. Couldn’t hear for about a week. Loudest live rock band at that time. They were magnificent and I mean that !!!!
I was at the concert at Budokan in Tokyo Japan in 1972 when they recorded the Made in Japan album on a break from Vietnam. Awesome show. Great memories!!. Highway Star is my 6 yr old grandson's favorite song. He listens to PaPa's music. LOL
I’m 62 and I always wondered when I was 18 if I would still enjoy this rock and roll when I got older, believe me I still do, in fact I play a guitar and deep purple is one of my favorites. Can’t get enough. Rock and roll!
Yeah.....crappy filming choice at that point. Don't take away from Roger Glover as he IS one of rock's STELLAR bassists but................it was Blackmore's time there, not Roger's.
Expensive to go to see at their peak though. When they were in their prime I saw them "Up In The Gods" in the top tier of The Royal Albert Hall in West London and the ticket cost 25 PENCE or 35 CENTS.....as did Creedence Clearwater Revival the following week....lol Pink Floyd 1973:Dark Side Of The Moon at Earls Court £1. Led Zeppelin @ Wembley Arena : 75 PENCE....:):)
@@Isleofskye what a coincidence , I saw them 2 days ago October 16 in Cleveland and tonight October 18 I am going to see CCR at Fallsview Casino , Niagara Falls , Canada😁🍾 Ian Gilan and Roger Glover are still playing together. Wish Richie Blackmore was playing guitar. Great concert! I am sure CCR will do great tonight. Cheers 😁🍾
Mistake my friend, I was thinking of Roger Glover. Wish John Lord and Richie Blackmore were there. Have a great weekend 😁 getting ready for CCR tonight😁🍾
Mark III beats this by far. They lay the grounds for what we call heavy metal today. Which one you like best, though, is an entirely different story. Opinions aren't dependent on facts.
+ZeroTheHero I guess for all the hard core DP fans this lineup is and will always be the best. A true dream team. No other has ever surpassed it. Simply impossible. And this isn't only an opinion - it's a fact. Look at the ultimateclassicrock web page (deep-purple-songs) and see for yourself. Out of top 10 DP songs, 8 of them belong to Mk II and only one to Mk III lineup. Moreover, first 6 ranks are held by Mk II songs (Highway Star is one of them) and only than there's Burn on the 7th rank. Or, let's say loudersound web page (DP albums from best to worst). First three ranks are held by In Rock, Machine Head and Fireball. Burn (the best Mk III album according to critics) is only the fourth. Search the web yourself and you'll find similar facts elsewhere. Or look at the Deepest Purple (original) compilation tracklist - out of 12 songs on the album, 10 of them are from the Mk II period. I guess no further argumentation is needed. Btw, the foudations for HM have been laid by Sabbath, not DP. General opinion, not mine. OK, in a way you're right but than you could say the same for The Beatles, Little Richard, Elvis, B.B King, Lead Belly, Bach, Beethowen and zillion of other musicians since all of them contributed to the music that followed after them and therefore to the HM as well. No one has ever started form the scratch but used and upgraded the work of his (hers) predecessors.
Best of the absolute best! They raised the bar so sky high back than its still an awesome masterpiece, instant high vibration ❤️ greetings from the Netherlands everyone ❤️
The greatest rock song and live version of all time. Almost 5,000 people did not like it. Sorry you had to listen to it. The originality is over the top. I must have listened to this album thousands of times. Words cannot describe how great they are! 😘
Great job. The wide stereo field of the Made in Japan audio brings the video to life. When people say that live albums are "filler" or "boring", tell them to listen to this. Every band member is doing something and doing it very well - no passengers.
Любима група от моята младост. Помня и как презаписвахме на ролковите си магнетофони всеки нов хит и слушахме тези виртуози. Превърнаха се в класика и надживяха своето време. Хвала!
For me, this is the greatest live album ever! The live versions on this album are WAY better and more exciting than the studio versions. This is Ritchie Blackmore at his absolute best. To bad the producer of this video was to stupid to have the camera on Ritchie playing possibly his best solo EVER. A great live band.
one of the most beautiful rock history guitar solos.. for me the best of all times .. that guitar solo is great !!! PERFECT !!!!! AMANZING!!!!!! beautiful..... beautiful......... beautiful...... beautiful....!!!
Yes, absolutely, without doubt, Ritchie Blackmore's Made in Japan "Highway Star" solo is the quintessential, greatest performance of all time. It's great hearing Ritchie playing without restraint. I've heard many very famous guitarists attempt to play this, and all they're doing is wanking.
You are so right. I saw a program on TV about Richie Blackmore and his career with interwiews of many of the worlds best guitar players. They all lifted Richie Blackmore up where he belongs as one of or maybe the best rock guitarist ever. Guys like Satriani, Vai, May and others definitely know what they are talking about. I saw Deep Purple live in Helsinki in the early 1970:s and they performed Highway Star and other tracks from Machine Head that had just been released. It was an incredible experience because there was just the band and their equipment now mammoth stage and extra flashing lights. I had a seat on front row and was only a few meters away from the band. Over 40 years later I still love their music and much of the solo projects as well as Richies newer music with Blackmores Night.
Well..its a good heavy metal song, but..the best?? Naaa.. Lets jus say one of the beast EARLIEST metal songs..lets not get carried away w childhood memories .
What an absolute awesome performance!! I would of loved being there but wasn’t born yet. The whole band was perfect virtuosos! Ian one of the greatest vocalist ever. He went on to hold his own with Pavorati. That right there takes guts.
True masterpiece of sound and performance. Like all great things, you think it would last forever. Sometimes you wish you had the power to make it so. Thank God Someone recorded it.
Thank YOU for posting this ensemble. As a kid I used to listen to this album over & over & over in my room for hours upon hours, staring at that album cover imagining what it was like to have been there in Japan when that album was recorded, it was pure fantasy and ecstasy in my mind... LONG LIVE DEEP PURPLE!
I think I played this and the Made In Japan album as a teenager on my 70's hifi more than any other - loud and continuously; my poor, long suffering and infinitely tolerant father below in his study. (He preferred Bach). It's a masterpiece and I still have the same vinyl in my collection today. Many years later I was working in Tokyo and managed to get tickets to see Deep Purple for the first time, at the Budokan (91, I think - Ian Gillan, Joe Satriani, Lord, Glover and Paice). It was an fantastic concert and an incredibly emotional experience seeing the band I'd grown up listening to, imagining the performance in such a distant place, actually playing the same music live in the same venue as where a good part had been originally recorded in 1972.
Great comment but I gotta correct you on a couple of things. If you mean the album with Ian Gillan (of Deep Purple fame)? The title of LP is "Born Again." There's a song called Digital Bitch on the album also. Also, the song you're referring to, most probably, is Trashed (video link below). There is no song by Black Sabbath called Wasted. There is a great and probably the fastest song by Def Leppard (from their first album) called Wasted. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zn9ykBw5U2A.html
