Fantastic documentary! I'm glad I had a chance to see Purple back in the day. There have been few bands since that could claim the pedigree of Deep Purple. It wasn't just hard rock, it was real music played by highly accomplished musicians. Show me a band, even from those days, that could boast that all 5 musicians were at the top of their respective positions. They were like one of the best Yankee teams ever...An All-Star at every position.

Now matter how often I hear Ritchie speak, his soft, almost shy voice and his perfect RP English (to my foreign ears, that is) never ceases to amaze me. I was lucky enough to meet him ten years ago and chat with him for half an hour: I love his intelligence, his politeness and his sense of dry humour.

Grew up on Deep Purple through my dad (I'm a millennial) and haven't listened to them in ages, since my teens. Recently got back into playing guitar after almost a decade and had the itch to check out some Ritchie goodness, and my God. How could i ever have forgotten how phenomenal this band was. Incredible.

Who the fuck is stupid enough to not know what "Smoke on the Water" is about? Do people not listen to lyrics? Blackmore is such a precise player. Hearing that isolated solo to "Highway Star" is amazing how fast and clean he really plays. No way in hell could Jimmy Page do that. Love Page too, but he's more of a sloppy player. And I was surprised that Ritchie was so complimentary to Ian Gillan. Jon Lord: total class act and a great keyboardist. Thanks for all the years Jon. Rock in Heaven!

What totally amazes me from practically all musicians/ artists that have written the greatest rock tunes, almost everyone of them are derived from one simple riff. Listening to Blackmore talk about the Space Truck'n riff and how he brought to Ian and immediately Ian recognizes it and clearly had a vision for it and somehow they collaboratively turn it into this epic tune. If your a musician, professional or just a hobbyist (like me), this is the type of magic we all wish to experience.

Mark 2 created their own genre, not style but, an entire genre of which only they played. It could be called: HARD rhythm and symphonidelic jazz ROCK. It was pure magic as you get exactly that impression from all the interviews. Because each of the five were such great musicians, they really needed a strong manager to provide a group direction and bond. The lack of that, led to the break up.

Yet another comment from me. Last Autumn, I was walking down a street, which was quite muddy after a series of rains... and an old beggar was kneeling... his whole look filled with sadness, hopelessness, he was crying on the inside, and so was I when I saw him. I wrote a song about him and this feeling, "In the mud" - like one of those softer Doors' tracks. I believe When A Blind Man Cries strikes the same deep chord in me.
