the high jumper had a plate elevating his heels too - goes to show even they didn't naturally have the ability to deep squat

Thanks for the old videos I’m gonna watch it! I am for the first time trying to Bulgarian split squatting at the moment. I haven’t mobility issues doing it contrary to deep squatting. I feel the weight more in my legs instead of the back. I think you could reduce to quarter ROM with less load on the back too… ( and have no belt squat access like a lot of people) What are you thoughts on them since we rarely see that in your workouts except maybe heavy lunge with the safety bar?

I feel like specificity is the most important thing, you don’t get high levels of knee flexion and hip flexion when jumping, so why would you focus your strength training for that range of motion? Doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe from a hypertrophic perspective you could incorporate some deep squatting, but not necessary imo
