As a European I'm baffled they sell guns just on shelves. And I'm freaking Jealous.

Muzzle loaders aren't regulated as modern firearms in most US states is why. The guns they have that are subject to modern gun laws are locked in a case. Usually the muzzle loaders are chained too but are out where you can handle them.

Not everywhere in the U.S can you find guns at Walmart , mostly eastern states, West Coast is all anti gun and super regulated, anyone can get a gun tho, just have to go to your local gun store have them run background check and get your permit, or you can just go to the streets and find one. 😂

Hunting tip. You have to clean the barrel after 2 to 3 shots. If you can every time you shoot, especially sighting it in.

I second what Drew said. I shot my T/C Pro Hunter 5 times, thinking it would be ok, yeah... it wasnt. Took an hour to remove breech plug and clean barrel.

I agree with @drewmathews4559 My first time sighting my muzzle loader I blew through lots of powder, lead and primers . My shots were all over the place. Ironically it's the same one you're using. I realized that everytime I rammed a new slug down the barrel, I was compacting more and more fouling everytime. The slug was seating further and further up the barrel

I used the 223gr power-belts for a few years. Never had a problem, but when I couldn't find them one year I used a T&C or Hornady 240gr (.44 cal) seated in a sabot. Never went back to the power-belt. The T&C and Hornady absolutely put the smack down on any deer. I purchased my "cheap" muzzleloader back in 2005 for around $100 - CVA staghorn, buckhorn, something like that. Has the spring and bolt. I've killed more deer with that gun than all my other modern rifles and bow combined - mostly because I use it primarily during the PA antlerless week. Thanks for posting this! Glad to see you getting it done - Merry Christmas!

@NS-zm6fw
@NS-zm6fw 4 месяца назад
@@DaSwissyI didn't see the part where he missed. In any case, as far as I know, the responsible ones shoot at such a distance that they are sure of a hit and the energy at the target is sufficient. Try looking at tests with ballistic gelatin. However, I directed my comment more towards the ability to shoot outside the shooting range and other details.
@DaSwissy
@DaSwissy 4 месяца назад
@@NS-zm6fw the shot he took prior to landing the actual hit, he missed. Yes, it'd be nice to shoot longer distances in europe but then again, it is to ensure safe and ethical hunting practices. Ive seen too many examples of unethical hunters so im just really opposed to everything that doesnt involve a meticulous preparation and execution. This video felt more like a "ah lets wing it and see what happens" to me, I cant fathom going on a hunt where i'd have to just "aim low" to just get a hit on target, just doesnt sit well with me. Ah well, different country different culture, its whatever
@NS-zm6fw
@NS-zm6fw 4 месяца назад
@@DaSwissy I already noticed that too. I'm not a hunter, but I shoot muzzleloaders and am generally interested in them. I like that you bought everything in a normal store and it wasn't demonized. I live in a country (Czech Republic) where the gun legislation is quite rational and free compared to the rest of the EU. But shooting is possible only at the official shooting range (of which there are few, in reality I only have one available). Hunting with forebears is then completely prohibited. Overall, compared to the USA, it is very difficult, even unrealistic, for an ordinary person to start hunting even in a conventional way. Sorry about this particular video, I don't have the knowledge to judge the practices of this particular hunter. I believe that it is possible to use a muzzleloader for hunting ethically, the performance is sufficient. The hunter just has to adapt to more difficult conditions and not take risks. Even with conventional weapons, some hunters do appalling things. :(

Correct me if I'm wrong, if you lower the rear sight you raise the blade sight on end of barrel. To bring front down you need to push rear sight up. My rear sight on my flintlock is in middle of the ramp. I'm 1inch high at 50 yards. Anyway nice video. Do enjoy your videos.

@redtra236

Definitely wrong, raising the rear sight will make the point of impact higher. Ever seen any ladder sights on older military rifles? The longer the distance the more you raise the rear sight. HOWEVER when it comes to the front sight raising it will lower the point of impact.

My 50 cal also jumps which is a huge turn off. It's fine in the LedSled at the range, but in the field it's another story. I ended up buying a CVA LR-X in 45 cal and it is a literal tack driver compared to the 50. In fact, I got my very first buck in nearly 25 years of hunting with it last season. I don't usually chase bucks as I'm a meat hunter, but this one came in unexpectedly. I don't know that I'll hunt with the 50 anymore.

Tip: my grandpa always said if you can hit a paper plate at a 100 yards it’ll kill a deer
@NorthRiverGuide
@NorthRiverGuide 7 месяцев назад
The sad part though is folks will follow logic like that. Sure the vitals are paper plate size, but when on a live animal most hunters come unglued and produce accuracy that makes a 10" group look tight.
@redtra236
@redtra236 4 месяца назад
@@NorthRiverGuide It's true that in the field accuracy is usually lower, but I think most people can do better than that
@NorthRiverGuide
@NorthRiverGuide 4 месяца назад
@redtra236 from what I observed guiding and cutting hunted game, I don't really have a high opinion on the abilities of the avg hunter. From folks that choke on a wide open stationary 8yd shot with a rifle on a medium game animal to the vast majority of the animals I cut essentially being torture killings, hit everywhere not immediately lethal. I see too many folks who can hold it together on target but completely fall apart when it comes to a living animal. Where many of them could only wish to be capable of producing 10moa at go time.
@redtra236
@redtra236 3 месяца назад
@@NorthRiverGuide You're just going on what you've seen out of a few novice hunters. I've shot deer at over 200 yards before. I have lost a couple over 15+ years of hunting but usually I know when I can comfortably take a shot. So I stand by my original point, accuracy usually does suffer some I would agree but most people that have practiced are adequate.
@NorthRiverGuide
@NorthRiverGuide 3 месяца назад
@redtra236 I'm going with what I see from a large sample of hunters of many experience levels, some are old timers too who have been doing a poor job for years. Across the board the avg hunter is terrible at dispatching game, and you're right, it doesn't take much to become good, but the issue is that effort doesn't happen often. Most go into the bush unprepared, ready to start wounding animals if they connect at all.

What was your powder load? one of the things that can lead to too high a shot is too much powder and to light a round
@davidvough6374
@davidvough6374 26 дней назад
ive done a lot of shooting with black powder. a lot of experimenting with loads, bullet types and weights, etc, modern inlines are not only engineered for but meant for 150 grains of powder,even though 150 grains are by far needed. Actually believe it or not by increasing thed powder charge it pushes the bullet faster, increased velocity will flatten the tragectory thus bullet im pact will be lower from 0-100. In my flinter, for hunting, i shoot 95 grains 2f with a 405 grain maxi. Id shooting competition i shoot the same maxi but 50 grains 2f. i have to bottom out my rear sight and hold 6 oclock because it shoots way high. at 95 grains i have to raise my sight because its really low.
@RetiredGoodtimes
@RetiredGoodtimes 7 месяцев назад
I use a Remington Genesis. Same type of cheap. I shot a buck and aimed low it also hit high. We are not allowed to use scopes on primitive weapons where I live. If I could put a scope on it would be quite accurate. That big old 50 cal bullet knocks the crap out of them for sure. Make sure you clean it well. These black powders corrode badly. If you clean it and it sits for a long period like months, then you might want to take it out and clean it again. You don't have the rolling block like I do, but the corrosion will make things stick in place.

For I guess over 30 years I've use mostly. cva muzzle loaders. they put meat on my table and outher tables also. I don't remember how many cva bobcat 50 cal I've owned and gave as gifts. my main load for all these years is 80gr to 100gr pyrodex with a green saboted hornady 44 xtp 180 gr. this was a most devastating bullet at these speeds in the vital area. I also used sierra 44 jhc 180 grwhich were more devastating. Especially neck bone shots. I don't recommend using the sierra on front neck shots if planning to mount the deer at times let's say extensive damage. as devastating at 100yd as in front of you. I've tested all kinds of loads but I always go with the xtp jhp.papa wishing you. 😊

Black powder barely ever leaves blood, especially those powerbelt bullets. Hornady sst or Barnes expanders give the best result in my opinion, hitting shoulder is important if the shot is available. Also you should have got a jag with your muzzleloader, buy some wet black powder patches and at the range run one back and forth on the jag every shot (u can get away with every 2-3) it will make it more consistent and easier to load.

Inline Muzzleloaders rifle's are completely different then Traditional flint lock Muzzleloaders same goes for Percussion Muzzleloaders Just don't take that Inline out during Traditional muzzleloader season here in PA that's A big No No as attempting it might be October inline season only or Regular Rifle season

I don’t know if price and retailer of certain guns really matters. If you think about it, guns are nothing more than a metal tube with a spring and a firing pin. The technology has been basically perfected for 100 years. BP guns are even simpler and usually much cheaper than modern guns. All of that is to say I don’t think it’s necessarily a given that a “cheap gun from Walmart” would be terrible. It really depends on the manufacturer and specific model more than anything else.

These aren't regulated as firearms in most states so even walmarts that don't have an FFL might carry them

@@redtra236 It depends from what i've read that only applies to "antique" muzzle loaders or replicas of the antique muzzle loaders not the modern ones you buy at walmart i could be entirely wrong
@redtra236

@@fintherebel5000 You are mostly wrong, you can mail order these with no background check in most states. HOWEVER what you said may be the case in some states but under federal US law and most state laws they aren't regulated as modern firearms. For a while like 20 years ago the ATF tried to regulate inline muzzle loaders as modern firearms but it got overturned in court.

I bought one of those kit's from Walmart and I swear it was the worst gun I ever shot!!! I tried every conceivable load you can think of to shoot through that gun. I ended up using the gun during the muzzloader season that year because it was all I had. Anyway I grunt called a 8 point huge buck in from the ground still hunting and I had that buck in a crazed rut bulging eye's frenzy at 10 feet from me aimed the gun at his chest squeezed the trigger and the gun went off and the buck just simply kept walking like nothing happened!!! Somehow I had missed it!!! I took the gun home and reloaded it fired it at a target same distance and it was shooting 3 feet high. I tried again and dead bullseye, tried again and 3 feet high absolutely no consistency at all. Only thing I can think of was the barrel wasn't what they claimed it was and the slugs were just like bouncing down the barrel. I did notice that it was always very easy to load even after multiple shots and yes I was using the correct size sabots for the gun...I ended up using my chopsaw in the shop on it and that solved my problem with that pos for good!!! Lol...true story!

It's possible that the rifling was failing to stabilize the projectile you were using, before getting angry and destroying the gun you should have tried different types of bullets.

@@redtra236 I think I tried every projectile that was available at the time..I think it was just bad rifling from the manufacturer and the sabot wasn't stabilized as it went through the barrel...I killed a big doe I remember aiming behind her shoulder 20 yards and the bullet hit her in the head...lol...crazy!!

I gave you a like for the "Don't try this at home" LMAO Powerbelts??? No, no, no blood.... Use something else. I like Hornady SSTs (250 grains) or the "Hornady XTP Bullets 50 Caliber Sabot with 44 Caliber 240 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point" which I have been using the past two seasons... You get blood with those XTPs!
