Rare footage of Def Leppard performing Armageddon It live in a rehearsal studio in 1987. This is taken from a Japanese TV program that also featured interviews with each band member.
Rick Allen looks so happy playing the drums. Imagine going through losing an arm and having to re-earn to play the drums using only three limbs. This man is a legend.
Rick Allen is one of four reasons I play drums. Rick Allen (introduced me to bad ass rock music), Lars Ulrich (as a ten year old kid listening to One for the first time, I wondered if a better song was ever written), Dave Grohl (Teen Spirit was my first song learnt on the drums. He showed me how to use the hi hat accent) and Dave Lombardo (he pushed me to be better and it worked) in that order.
Criminally there is NOT a lot of video, especially interviews. There is a lot more of Elliot and the other band members. You have to remember "The Riffmaster" was an extremely shy, reserved bloke. His Father's abuse left Steve with deep demons, all he ever wanted to do sadly was please his Dad, who was a POS. The one person who arguably is responsible for taking 'the' most pictures of Steve, photo shoots and live was the great Ross Halfin. Halfin picked Steve very very early as someone seriously special, a killer classically trained guitarist but who was the bands genius as Steve penned and created the music at 90%. Halfin has thousands of pics. That Ross got these shows that Steve really trusted Halfin. The video that does exist is from their early Lyon and Germany gigs, US first tour with Pete Willis, their second tour with 'Pyro', and the third tour for 'Hysteria', 'in the round in your face'. Sadly 'Download' was only taped but from about a mile off, it is impossible to see Steve up close, but it does exist, someone uploaded it, but the European gigs are not posted, there's a Japanese TV song but to backing tracks I think it is from Koln Germany, bits of bobs and ends, Then you have San Remo which was Steve's last performance with the band and it was a overdub song, not live. If you dig and dig you'll find an enormous treasure trove of Steve. There was a website called "In Loving Memory of Steve Clark" which no longer exists, it had EVERYTHING you ever wanted on Steve, his rig from 78 to when he passed.
I believe they lost their edge after he passed, and they've only recently managed to regain some of it but without Steve they arent the same band they were... He was a great artist and a good mate of theirs :(
Way Cool hearing a stripped down version without all the processed studio vocals & effects. Really shows how good of a raw band there were at their core which makes them even greater imho. Respect.
And don't forget, this was probably one of the first times they ever TRULY played this live, as in, no cuts, one take, it takes time to get a song entirely down playing live, till it is polished and smooth.
@Red Dogg - Rebel4Truth You obviously know next to nothing about the time frame for the album recording, release, and concerts. Maybe do some studying next time, because you are wrong.
Sir-----you hit it right; this is the rarest of successful bands, in that ego has NOT been an issue . That's why they are still together today.-------------------WolfSky9
🤘😃👍No dude, this was filmed in MY garage! If you look really close in the corner there, you can see my car jack, jack stands, my leaf rake, shovel and a bag of ice melting rock salt there. The day b4, I had spilled some antifreeze in the center of the floor, where the drum kit sits, so I had to spread some granular oil dry, which you can also see if you look even closer @ 0:18.... 😉
Also remember that Rick's accident was in 84 , so this is only approx 3 years later , and he's killing it on the drums here !!! A testament to him and the band for sticking together etc . Thats why these guys are Rock Royalty , and deservedly so ...
This is one of the coolest clips of DF I have ever seen. Steve Clark is great, so sad he couldn't get himself together. I think we missed a lot of geat song like this one since he died. DL were never the same after his death

Their live sound is amazing. A band that truly out performs their studio sound. I knew songs by them growing up but seeing them live changed my life. Nothing but sheer drive, passion and tremendous talent. RIP Mr. Clark. Wish I coulda saw you live.
he is still rocking somewere im sure,he found his way here once,he will find a way back to us some how, shit every time i play a def song stave is around,he put his mark on def,and it will never go,he passed throw once,he will again ,just keep turning up the def till he does.god bless you steave a good soul, who left us all a little if not alot better off.gone only from this earth,For now anyway.
Everytime I hear someone say they cannot do something I tell them about Rick Allen from Def Leppard. He is the living example of "anything is possible if you want it!"
This is a great video, watching them playing its awesome but Rick giving his best and mastering drums is beyond words, thanks for the video, Def Leppard ROCK'S!!!!!
I had the chance to see them in Paris (Bercy) for Hysteria tour. I was on the Rick Allen side no arm, so impressive. What a sound and show it was. Each member were top performer. But the strongest memory is the Steve Clark solo, with his double guitar, runnin' like mad all along the stage, givin' incredible sounds and riffs. The crowd was totally in osmosis with him!
Yeah honestly in the arena for man you can lose some of the individual instruments and all the noise. This was really cool to hear. Even in the records there's so much production that you don't always hear the guitars like this.
If I remember correctly that guitar has been missing since he passed away. His girlfriend at the time Janie Dean either sold them off or had someone sell them off.... She was a piece of shit heroin addict!
This was fantastic, it's great to see some old footage of the band! I think they sound better now, I guess practice makes perfect!! SAV is so hot!!!!! Thanks for posting
cool all the way indeed, thats how he made life feel to when the def rocked cool.def all the time all the way it rocks me to heaven time and time again.wrong or right i dont fucking care i want def up and loud as you can get .rock on forever its,The only way anyway.
this band is better on their worse day, then any one on their best day,10+ outa 10,how could it not be its def,the show goes out if they want to or not, their pros, the the truth is they gave us years of music, and shows, and always well, shit on a bad day and no def leppared,im fucked, and so are you ,thanks for rocking me all the way def leppared no matter were im going lol!!!!!!!!!!.,ps im going to a def concert.lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rock on rock on time for counting when the rockings done.
Rick Allen IS the true THUNDER GOD!!! Thank you for setting the bar high brothaah. Your drive to carry on has inspired me to do the same. As we both have traveled a similar path. Only my accident from a motorcycle accident. Play LOUD......Play PROUD!!! 🤘🏼🥁🎵🥁🎵🥁🎵🥁🎵🥁🎵🥁🎵🥁🎵🥁🎵🥁🎵🥁🎵🥁
My goodness... Phil was the oldest here at the "BIG" 3-0 !!! And Rick was just a baby at 23! I had just moved out into my first apartment at 23 and rick was already touring for 7 years with Def Leppard.
yep there is a lot of stuff he played his own way that other guitar players wont do because they do not have the imagination he had. as a player, i crave video of his guitar playing style. there is so much there which is pure magic!

@RickSavageGirl cool again! i love this hair styling... it's all about 80s!! hm... i think yes, i have seen many def leppard's videos so i guess i have seen something like that too :)
I have the VHS tape of Hysteria from the 80s &Not getting rid of it for any amount of money. I'm gonna get DVD man @ studio to put it on for me. I'm a lover of Music! Love you guys
That's what I was talking about! Not that they're bad. You can tell here that they're good! But Mutt Lange made them sound much better, specially BG vocals (far too good I must say).
Unlike American bands Europeans ones appear to be more loyal to each other. Both U2 and Rammstein have maintained the same lineup throughout their entire careers. The Police and The Beatles opted to break up instead of keeping the gravy train moving with new members. Led Zeppelin chose to disband after the death of their drummer. As for Def Leppard? Not once did they consider replacing Rick Allen, who btw has been in the band since the age of 15. Also, the last time a band member was replaced was in 1992 after Steve Clark’s death..
