Judi Dipillo Hi, you’re exactly right. I have a friend that was born one arm & he is a manager at a grocery store. This guy doesn’t have to but physically works circles around these younger workers with two arms. He told me that all his life people treat him different because he’s disabled. I told him when I look at you I don’t see someone who’s handicapped at all. Yes, these people are an inspiration to all or they should be ✌🏻
The Lego Builder you are so correct on that. I gained respect for the band because it would have been easy for them to move on without him. They showed compassion, faith in him& friendship. He definitely didn’t disappoint them either. Wish more people would treat others that way! ✌🏻
Drummer proves you don’t have to live like a “victim “ Lost his arm in a car wreck, and the band wouldn’t replace him. Drummer found a way to continue playing.
FM 1 Every person’s situation is different. Rick Allen’s dedication and determination are exemplary, but not everyone could do what he did. He was already a famous member of a hit band when he lost his arm. He was able to afford to have a specialized electronic kit built to enable him to continue, and the other band members supported him in his efforts. He was also otherwise in good health. Some people already have the deck stacked against them when a new tragedy strikes. I don’t think it’s fair or kind to hold everyone to the standard of one exceptional person who has exceptional circumstances. Very few people want to “live like a victim.” Some people just need more help than others, for all kinds of reasons.
@@holyspacemonkey Absolutely, but no matter the money, it would have been easy to quit, live off the royalties, and be fine. And yeah, Rick has had his demons, and is not perfect, but he tries to be a better person every day, so fair play to him.
@@holyspacemonkey yeah, but despite his advantages he still did it. as important as what he had to overcome was the band's loyalty, which in itself is amazing. everyone these days wants to be a victim of some kind, it's victim culture in the tiktok generation. there are endless throngs of beautiful young white women doing the 'oh, woe is me!' schtick at every turn. some people -- i call them liberals -- have every possible advantage and *still* want to claim some kind of ridiculous victimhood.
@@MRMIdAS2k I agree! I don’t mean to minimize his accomplishment. He’s one of my heroes! Just saying his case doesn’t generalize to what’s possible for others. ❤️
Yes. I was disappointed that he didn't mention it. LOL. Most reactions to this video flip out a bit once they realize it. It kept looking like he happened to look away when the drummer was briefly on screen. LOL. Great reaction though.
No one ever expects to see a one-armed drummer so it makes sense that he didn't notice. If anything it just speaks to how amazingly talented Rick Allen's drumming skills are.
The members of Def Leppard are very good friends with the members of Queen they performed at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert after he passed away and Brian May presented Def Leppard with their reward when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Today is the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. What a wonderful synchronicity that you happened to drop this video today, featuring drummer Rick Allen, an amputee hero!! There is no band I know of that represents the spirit of the ADA’s push for accommodation better than Def Leppard, since Rick Allen was able to continue as drummer after losing his left arm due to a special electronic drum kit being made for him (and his persistence and passion, of course). Disability does not mean inability! ♿️✊ To top it off, I heard you use the word “inclusive” to refer to how every member of the band was featured. That was extremely perceptive! Today is a day to especially celebrate disability inclusion. I’m really touched to see this video today. And I’m curious if you knew anything about any of what I wrote! I’m appreciative either way, especially being an amputee myself. ❤️ PS. My favorite Def Leppard songs are Photograph and Rock of Ages (not to be confused with my Grandma’s favorite hymn 😂). [Update: I thought it was July 26th when I wrote this, but it was actually only the 24th, so I was 2 days off on the ADA Anniversary. Oops! But my sentiment still remains!]
@@AlexiHolford I like what you had to say for you sister. It's obvious your sister is a special lady and the 2 of you really care for each other. My sister has a special place in my heart also.
I don't believe he had any awareness but rather a fateful coincidence. Actually not even sure if he noticed Rick's disability, most people just listening without seeing probably wouldn't because he's very skilled.
Yes, the drummer lost his arm but while he was in the hospital he told his band he thought he could put a drum kit together where he would teach himself to use his foot instead if his arm. They stuck my him and that is exactly what he did. They couldn’t save Steve - long hair guitarist. They tried but he died of alcohol poisoning I believe
When Rick lost his arm.... We thought that was the end of the band... Then when we heard they were coming back WITH Rick.... We all wondered, "how?".. And we wondered what the music was going to be like.. What we got completely blew everyone out of the water. And you hit it right on the head Sir.. Their concerts back in the 80s and 90s were absolutely amazing. If I could turn the dial back to the summer of 1989, it would be such an absolute joy to see you at one of their concerts...
Def Leppard - LOVE BITES. This is still my favourite song by them. This was my favourite hair metal band back in the 80's, juuuuuust slightly edging out Guns n Roses (because I didn't like Sweet Child O Mine back then. Love it now, but back then, not a fan of that single.). BTW - Guns N Roses "Don't Cry" and "You Could Be Mine" (From the Terminator 2 movie.) You gotta do both.
Rick Allen, the drummer, lost his arm in a horrific car accident when he was 21. He joined Def Leppard at 15. They DEFINITELY weren't gonna abandon their friend, even though so many people were telling them to get a new drummer. They stayed by his side as he healed and re-taught himself how to play. He has a special kit in which his left foot pedal can emulate what his left arm could do. He still has PTSD from the accident to this day, and finds drumming and painting therapeutic. He has opened charities for wounded veterans and people who have had amputations. I definitely recommend checking out their song Photograph! =)
Aw hell yeah! Not a huge hair band fan. But Def Leppard was my band. *Foolin* and *Armageddon It* was the songs. (Ck out how drummer lost his arm and how his bandmates stood by him)
I never understood exactly what the term "hair band" ment? I always took it as a diss, that the band is a wannabe pretender fluff band that is just trying to copy everyone else and be trendy. Joe Elliot only has hair in the back, Phil Collen certainly isn't hairy. I guess Rick Savage is the identity of the band? I have no clue.
@@ckobo84 the term isn't an insult at all. it's just a category. If you look at bands of that era, with that particular sound, the majority have tons of hair. So did most teen guys then.
I've been to many a concert in my years and I have no hesitation in saying that as far as fun and crowd participation goes, Def Leppard was outstanding! Sometimes they'd stop singing just to listen to us... song after song. If I only had a time machine!!
I never officially saw Def Leppard in concert but one night I was Hanging out at The Hardrock in Vegas with a buddy of mine. We were standing outside of the Joint, I think it was, their little showroom. We could faintly hear the music. Then the doorman opened the doors. So, we kindly asked him if we can go inside. He waved us in and we saw Def Leopard do their Encore set that included Pour Some Sugar On Me. They were GREAT!
I saw them in concert in Adelaide, Sth Australia, back in the day 🐨! The stage was round, in the middle of the venue, just like in this vid. The drummer uses double pedals, so constantly has both feet/legs going to make up for the loss of his arm. Half way thru the set, he disappeared down into the stage for intensive physiotherapy while the band went crazy with guitar solos, so he can come back and finish the concert. Now that's dedication!!
Did you notice that the drummer has one arm? Love this song ❤️❤️❤️❤️ and the band members still continued to work with him that's love right there I'm glad that they didn't give up on him nor did he give up on himself , well it was up to him to say whether or not he could continue to work with them .
Almost 32 years ago. Good group to get into with so many songs. Personally this is a song that can get anyone into them, so it becomes their "Best song", but they really do have some other great songs. Glad you liked it!
I heard “We Will Rock You,” as well. It’s the boom-boom-boom / boom-boom-boom rhythm. This is such an upbeat, happy song; immediately puts one in a good mood.
Dream come true for me - I got to see them in concert a few years ago. The dream come true is that I got to take my 2 teenage sons, both musicians, along!! So fun! They went on to form a band and play all 70s & 80s rock, including Def Leppard songs. 🤘
They were UNBELIEVABLE in concert!!! Can't even put into words how awesome they were!!! San Diego 1982 phenomenal concert!!!!💜🎶🎵🎼🥳🥳🥳🥳 Yeah I hear the "We Will Rock You" vibe!!! But def Leppard is my favorite!!!😉😉😉
I think what reminds me of Queen is the crispness, the power, and clarity of the music. I know many have commented on it but how incredible that the drummer only has one arm. I remember seeing them in concert, out of this world.
Def lepard is a energetic music just makes my day to just get up and do something thei music has helped me get through life as many other 80s artist thank you 80s music
I saw Def Leppard for the first time just over a year and a half ago in concert. They were just as GREAT live, as they sound in the studio!! Bringing on the Heartbreak is my favorite of their songs... It's even more awe-inspiring when you realize that the drummer lost his arm in a car accident over 15yr or so ago. He plays just as if he's got two arms!!!
Def Leppard is easily one of my favorite bands from the '80s.. The drummer, Rick Allen (Or "The Thunder God" as he's known as by Def Leppard fans) lost his left arm on December 31st, 1984 in a car accident due to a faulty (or defective) seat belt.. But he still ROCKS !!! 🤘🤘🤘6:00, 6:35, 6:43; they got several close ups on him so you can see that he has one arm. And Joe Elliott's voice is AMAZING !!! I would certainly like to see more Def Leppard reactions
“Back in the day” radio stations would play songs like this, followed by Michael Jackson, Madonna, etc. Everybody got to hear a little bit of everything that was hot at the time. I’m a black female in my late 40’s and know most of the words to this song. LOL!
So many greats by this band. Rick Allen, the drummer, he lost his due a car wreck just after recording their third album Pyromania. He could not stay away though and designed a electronic drum kit( or rather had it built) and the rest is history. I saw them last year in concert and amazing of course. Rick even had his “drum solo” spotlight. Great show!
These guys will still tear it up and bring down the house. Very serious 80’s power band here. Heavyweight legends all the way, and they still got it. Great review again!
Def Leppard have said that they have always been trying to write rock anthems like 'We Will Rock You' and 'I Love Rock and Roll'. This was their most perfect example of that.
Def Leppard was my favorite 80s Rock band so many great songs and to top it off all thee adversity this band would face there lead guitar player Steve Clark would die of alcohol poisoning, the drummer got in a bad car accident and lost one of his arms but they adjusted to him and continued to play one of the greatest rock bands of all time!
My favorite band is finally here! Def Leppard's harmonies are legendary. There's one more unseen element to the brilliance of this song, songwriter/producer, Mutt Lange. He also contributed background vocals.
Def Leppard produced some of the catchiest music on the planet. Thats no lie. There literally is too many songs to name. I love Rocket from the same album
I was a dancer from 1999-2000, and they were STILL bumping this nightly in the club, even though its from the 80,s! LOVED it! EVERY set /rotation here it comes again! "POUR- SOME -SUGAR - on ME!!" WE actually got tired of hearing it! BUT great video!!
I see these guys every year and they never disappoint. To see Rick Allen (drummer) perform live is amazing to watch. Respect to him and a band that wouldn't give up on him. He wasn't even expected to survive and almost lost the other arm as well. Recovered fast due to sure will and the help of his brother. I still miss Steve but every show I've been to, they still do a part for Steve.
@@JayveeTV That's your assignment, once the Covid-19 nonsense is done...Get yourself to a strip club, and don't forget to take your money, strippers LOVE money! And we want a reaction video on your experience there! LOL
I love it . My son when he was in 8th grade was was chosen to play his saxophone with the high school band . He played the part that is played by guitar solo with his sax on the 50 yard line during the halftime show. Talk about being proud I was . Thanks for the reaction, Everyone loves this song . Back in the day it was known as the stripper anthem. LoL funny for me to think about while watching my son .😉😎
Love Def Leppard! So many Great Hits! Too Late for Love was always one of my faves,it was off of their Pyromania album!Continue Please...and yes, this song, like We Will Rock You,is a Rock Anthem!
Great metal band from the 80s/90s. You should never have guessed they were from Sheffield, Yorkshire, the same place as Joe Cocker!!! They sound so American!!! Also from Sheffield are Human League, Pulp, and Arctic Monkeys!!! All great bands in different genres!!! Great music city!!!
Back in 1984 after their 3rd album Pyromania the drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a car crash. He worked hard re invented the way he played drums.. in 1987 they released their 4th album and best album to date (25M copies sold) in Hysteria and he continues to play and tour with the band today! React to Rock of ages live in the round 1988!
Their drummer is *literally* a minimalist-he only has one arm!! Amazing how hard he worked and gave it his all every time though. Awesome throw back watching this☺️
This band was huge in the 80's. Quite a few # 1 hits. Their shows always sold out. Same era as guns n roses, poison, whitesnake and metallica. They were definitely in the top 5 during their time.
Yes the drummer lost an arm in a car wreck but he created a brand new drum set where the stuff he would play with that arm he now plays with his feet. I admire how the band was willing to give him the time he needed to recover and learn to play drums with his arm and feet. I think he does an amazing job. I would vote him the best drummer of the 80s if not all time.
