White America's dropped a bomb on Hiroshima killing hundreds of thousands and then there was peace! A black man speaks of peace, has a gun in a poem...you want to call the cops!!! Fuck you mick!!!
Malcolm X has everything to do with modern day rappers. One of Malcolm's major concerns was about black americans having a voice in America. I think Malcolm would be proud to see and hear rappers like nas, common, talib kweli, mos def, the roots, and any other rapper intelligently expressing themselves about the world around them and millions hearing their voice. No this may not spark some radical change but the potential is there and some modern rappers, though not many understand that.
man. i wish i had been born a couple years earlier. I'm 15 and pretty much missed most of the real hip hop and rap. I'm tryna find out more on it, and the lyrics i'm hearin from this brotha is undescribable.
Im 18 and i know real hip hop. Comnon, Most Def, Redman Method Man, The old Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Tupac, DMX, KRS One, Outkast, Keith Murry, just a few of my favs
"Certain” people (you know who you are) are afraid of what they do not understand. The knowledge that Common is preaching in this video is well above what you’ll ever comprehend. Honestly, I refuse to help anyone with any of the terminology that is used in this video. I understand it 100% and I encourage the rest of you who are smart enough to dissect what is being said to yield and not define his words to the others. Lets watch the ignorant spoil in their own fear of the unknown!
Mt Sentiments Exactly Bro Thank You!!! Bro To Put It Deeply They Say The Whole Issue From Day Is The Envy Of The Greatness, Beauty, Talent, Intelligence, Spirit, Ability, Etc Of Our People. If Only They Just Accepted That The Blessings That We Have Were Earned By The Righteousness Of Our Ancestors. The Almighty Is Our Spiritual Father But The Father Of Many "BUT NOT ALL" People Of Non Color Is His Present Spiritual Adversary And Ex Servant, Whom Will Be Dealt With In Our Generation Bro....TBC
alot of kids know real hip-hop in fact we know alot more than most people think we do because we were born in the golden era i was listening to real hip-hop since i was born real talk
This is what Rap and Hip-Hop SHOULD be. The stupid shit of today by Drake, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, etc. can never compare, they've turned Rap and Hip-Hop into bullshit. Common and Mos Def are truly keeping what's left of Rap and Hip-Hop alive.
common is one of my closest friends and he told me personally that is a hand-made, human-hair wig. He went on to say that It is a throw-back worn by one of the original cast members of 227.
I read your reply before the video started and when it came on I had two watch it three times before I could stop laughing and actually hear what he said...thanks LOL =)
I don't know what exactly what happened between Assata Shakur and the cops because I wasn't there. Neither was Common, but Common obviously thinks she is an innocent scapegoat the cops tried to frame, therefore he does not support killing cops. Also his lyric "Burn a Bush" is an elastic term no more incendiary than Palin's "Don't retreat, reload," because it can be taken metaphorically. Common promotes peace, equality between men and women, and education/empowerment. A true asset to our society.
i love that line... ''I hold up a peace sign but I carry a gun''... it isn't weird... it's just like a verse in the bible that says to walk softly and carry a big stick. All it means is that one must promote peace always... and kno the power that one has.
