Hey Al, thanks a lot for making this video. I'm one of of the Momentum Mod devs and I just want to say: my jump key doesnt work?? i press the key and nothing happens. tried holding it down hard and it just snaps off could it be a settings thing? is it the game? thanks please help

They are currently working on a map conversion tool to port quake maps over to source, I imagine this would probably work for ET maps too but I don't know for sure, and I doubt very much that they would be interested in adding enemy territory physics, although vq3 physics are already in

Actually it's a bit more complicated. In defrag we essentially have two seperate physics systems that can be used. What was described here is the CPM physics (Challenge Pro Mode). The other one is called VQ3 (Vanilla Quake 3). The ability to "air strafe" / change the direction as well as the double jump and speed boost mechanics are part of the CPM physics (just called promode / pm in quakelive). The defrag world cup is usually split into those two categories. Since you have more air control with CPM you usually can reach higher top speeds. Due to the different air strafe behaviour, strafe-jumping feels and works slightly different between the two systems. Some defrag maps are specifically designed for cpm or vq3 but usually you can run them in both. Though there are some pure cpm maps which you can not run with vq3 since it may require the double jump mechanic. The CPM physics originally comes from a Q3 mod called Challenge Pro Mode Arena (CPMA). Besides the modified physics, it also has some changes to the weapons. For example you can switch between weapons instantly and each weapon has its own cooldown. So you may fire some rockets and land a rail gun hit way before the rockets hit. CPMA generally had a way faster pace. It also brought us the other familiar game modes like Clan Arena or Freeze Tag. ps: A quite obscure feature / bug that was already in quake 3 is the "overbounce bug" that essentially became a feature, just like strafe jumping. Some titles released with ID tech3 have removed it though. In essence there are two kinds of overbounce conditions that have to be met for an overbounce to happen and its always related to the exact height you're falling. Certain integer multiples would cause an overbounce when you hit the surface. There are essentially two heights that are relevant and that depends on your "sticky state" as it's often called. Walking up a small step can make you offset slightly. This can also happen after bouncing on a jump pad x number of times. The exact situation completely depends on the map. The overbounce itself can be used in two ways. What it effectively does is that it transfers all your vertical momentum into momentum in the direction you're going. So dropping from an overbounce height onto a ground would accellerate you into your current movement direction. However in the case that you drop down with absolute zero sideways velocity, you just bounce back up. Some defrag maps actually require this mechanic. You can get a perfect vertical overbounce when you have a corner that lets you eliminate your horizontal velocity. The vertical overbounce will bring you almost up to the same height and thanks to the step size you usually could land at the same height you originally dropped from. Though in defrag it's often used to just gain extra speed for a plasma climb. I think the original Defrag had overbounce indicators. See this video( 4SmsTOsronQ ) it shows the letters in the middle of the screen. "J" means that you get an overbounce when you jump and land on that surface, a "G" means that you just need to drop from the current height without a jump. At 0:26 he does a vertical overbounce.
