Drunk or not this man has a soul. You can't get bored while listening to him or listening to him at all. Their songs are masterpieces and I don't care if he nails them or destroys them or if he's drunk or on drugs I just don't fuckin care I would spend my whole income to see them live.
It is that intro. Most certainly it is.I get what you mean.But...This is Deftones and what that kid needs to hear and see to be inspired. MUSIC is fun. People take shit to serious .If you've ever label this band as technically corrected. You can't be a fan.Cheers
Technically deftones music is awkward but the awkwardness of music they produce makes it very artistic and one of a kind. Every song they make is enigmatic and eargasmic. Chino's voice is awful to regular or standard music but it is beautiful and original that when you take away chino as vocals and replace it with another vocals it becomes different and no longer sounds deftones. That is how unique and original Chino's voice is.
Chino's voice is so unique, I'm sure that he can't sing other songs from other artists as well, but he made deftones songs unmatchables and it is why he is my favorite singer, he has an incredible style that no other singers have
Ehh. Id critique this performance more than just the band itself. This is not the best of their ability or even close to it. When they nail it, they nail it.
I always considered Deftones to be the band that mostly intelligent and open minded people listen to. And it really was like that, for years. But now, internet has made them available to these idiots who don't know what a live performance is, what an open-air performance is, what a festival performance is, what a televised performance is, what a sound recording is, what a live performance A/V recording is, what a sound compression is, what a sound conversion is, what "the pocket" is, how to shut the fuck up when I don't know shit about the shit I'm talking about, etc. The list is virtually endless. CheerZ! \m/
Chino’s an incredible artist but shit technically. I doubt he cares tbh and neither do I. Koi No Yokan’s one of the most beautiful records I’ve ever heard.
@@kevinstafford3128 It seems like even those people like Deftones. My sister has shit taste in music and she's always loved 'em. They truly are one of the modern greats in my book. I love that young people are so into them and other 90s/00s bands now.
I love the shit out of thiS band but this beginning had me in tears from laughter. It's like one of those tampered live vids, with titles like "Enter Sandman but it's a complete sh*tshow" only this time it's genuine. Long live the 'tones. Playing drunk is sometimes very much fun. Not for the audience, but you know, one's gotta relax occasionally
You have to understand that Chino's voice is not the same as it was some years ago, he had a problem in his vocal cords. I think is very difficult for a vocalist to give up on singing but you can see on his face and notice how he´s trying so hard to be what he was in his prime time also he´s not 18 anymore. All my R E S P E C T ! to Chino.
Chino is messing up on the guitar and they have him drowning out Stephen. Abe is rocking them drums, as always. Sergio has a pile of ramen noodles on his head. 🤘
I think the deftones were probably more psyched that they got the bassist from Quicksand to join once Chi died. Know your history! I’m sure deftones do!
@@mola55e5 It goes both ways, they are friends for a long time now and deftones were formed before quicksand in 1988. It's not like they just got "the bassist from quicksand", they asked a friend. It was not even the first time, Vega replaced Cheng in the 90's during a tour when Cheng had pneumonia. Quicksand knows their history too.
@@cactus-mcjacktus they kept treating Sergio like he was a hired gun and wouldn’t give him the recognition as an actual member when he has been contributing to the band since the moment he was asked to join. It’s kinda surprising to hear honestly since he was in the band for a while
Hehe... I've played in many bands where the singer used to wanna play something. Brings back some awkward memories! We let one guy tap away completely out of time with some wood blocks on a recording once, just to keep him happy. We ended up having to drown it in reverb and bury it in the back of the mix. I still laugh every time I listen to it!
Not really similar, Chino plays pretty distinct riffs that you can clearly hear in the mixing. There are a lot of songs where he isn’t playing guitar, but when he is you can definitely hear it. I do agree tho. Frontman syndrome is a real thing in a lot of bands lol
I last saw Deftones in 2011. Watching Koi No Yokan and Gore era performances bums me out that they never played near me. I will make sure the next record tour cycle to catch them locally or make a trip out of it.
I’ve seen them once post KNY and once post Gore. You didn’t miss anything it’s still all mostly Around the Fur and White Pony, sprinkle some Diamond Eyes and these two songs in the video. I wish I saw them when you did, probably had more Diamond Eyes at least. I love them to death but he’s too old for all the screaming and jumping, they need to start playing the newer shit. I would really enjoy if on the Ohms tour they simply do the whole album and all post 2010 shit. But they love the hits way too much for that to ever happen.
chinos vocals are pretty fucking good knowing how hard it is to sing live, esp adding in all the moving around and shit he does, its nearly impossible to do that while maintaining perfect vocal control. his guitar playing is sloppy here tho ngl. but fr ppl saying this is a godawful performance are wack
Desftones always destroying songs one way or another , but they are geniouses no matter the amount of substances abuse ... way to go chino.. you are a legend ...
Chino is hammered. I've seen them 4 times live and never sounded like this. He is trashed. Still love Defotnes though, been jamming them since Adrenaline was released. Favorites
Any guitarists words probably. He's off beat, clanky, hitting the wrong notes, a bunch of janky gibberish as he forms his chords amd then he doesn't properly strum his chords lol. If I were on stage then I would have been livid
I don't know shit about playing drums, but when Abe smashes the fuck outta his kit there at 7:53, I can't help but find it most excellent. Wish I could of been here.
Wtf is this why they don’t ever perform KNY? Christ Chino get it together 😂 still would honestly kill to hear more of this album live besides these two songs, even a rough version like this
lol, y'all are saying hes messing up on his guitar playing, when in another video of them in the same show performing rosemary, you can see more clearly that the guitar and the electronic components connected to it were messing up.
3:47 the look on those girls faces in the crowd says it all. Lol, Chino is drunk and is a terrible singer. At least he gives it all, doesn't fake it, and puts his energy into the performance. A live Deftones show is all about energy, Stephen & Abe.
How can people say he isn't technical...A consider the style of music B how many records have you made i would love to hear them C 18 yrs of gigging making records and playing live also working as a tech and stagehand ill tell you this is one of the most influential bands for modern rock and what chino dose is incredibly difficult.
I don't know what any of ya'll are talking about...chino sounds good here. way better than he does at 99% of these giant outdoor festivals with terrible mixing...music isn't supposed to be played at noon in the middle of a damn field
Also, that intro was cringey... I'd have liked the camera to cut to Stef's face during it. Tempest is one of my favourite songs and this live version isn't too bad once you get past the intro. Chino's voice is still strong when he's not playing guitar or jumping around everywhere.
