This is the thing that will make my decision easier. We prefer homecanned meats, and I own 2 dehydrators. Eggs are the only thing that I buy freeze dried. I just assumed dehydrated eggs would be inferior to the freeze dried. That's what I get for assuming! 🤣 a freeze drier is no longer a lingering wish! Thanks Heidi! You are the bomb! 💗
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 3 года назад
I had assumed the same thing. I was so unimpressed with those Honeyville eggs that I had assumed these would be the same. Nope, these are way better. Not sure if it is because they use additive in their eggs to prevent clumping, or what it is but the quality of my own was far superior. Now it is the test of time and really, if they only hold their quality for 3 months, that would still be sufficient.

@@RainCountryHomestead I'm new to pressure canning, but my take on storing dry egg would be to pull a HARD vacuum on the container. When I was a kid (60+ years ago) we would toss a lighted match into an opened jar of salmon eggs (fish bait) before slamming the lid on. Supposedly, the burning match used up all the oxygen and kept the remaining eggs fresh. Hey, it absolutely works for that purpose. Do you think it would be the same for powdered egg?

Before prepping for the famine, the most important thing is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and your Savior. He loved you so much that He gave His life for you by hanging in the cross and going to hell so that you wouldn’t have to! If you sincerely decide you want Him to be your Lord and Savior, simply tell Him you are sorry for your sins and that you want Him and if you are sincere, He will accept you and you will belong to the family of Jesus Christ! Best thing I ever did! Then, Read your Bible every day and pray to Him and He will guide you and help you!

Heidi this shared information is not going to be for everyone but I think it may help someone so here goes......... This is what I use as my "salt for everything but eating", (but if push comes to shove!😉) at tractor supply "Himalayan Nature" brand 100% H-pink salt chunks in a 8lb. bucket for animals at the cost of $11.20 before tax. (Labeled not for human consumption.) But for grass killing and scrubbing uses I love it just as great as any other but I can save money this way and hope someone else can to. Oh yeah! It's great for animals too! 😁😉😇👍
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 2 года назад

@suehinson1629 2 года назад
@@RainCountryHomestead Yep! You nailed it! And with the push and shove I referred to, I wouldn't give a 2nd thought! Lol. Wouldn't it be such an awesome world if all we had to "worry" about with our food supply was "Grit"?! I prefer my community of family and friends to have a good supply of "grit" in them! A great sign of "strength and endurance", an Lord knows, nowadays, we need all we can get! Especially, for taking a stand! Thank you for all you share Heidi! I appreciate everything you have taught me. Have a great week ahead and God bless. Sorry almost forgot, I bought 2 of the cheaper "cast iron" skillets. I think their ten inch. This is all I use them for: put a chunk of salt into the pan and put the other pan on top just like you were staking them to store. (Just make sure the handles are not over each other because you will be pinched and it's not fun. Ouch!) Then I just start rocking the top pan back and forth while I apply pressure, and according to how much speed and pressure I use, it works pretty quick and causes the least destruction to any other methods I've tried. Plus you don't loose any from "flying" away. Lol.

Thank you Heidi! 🙂 I think in another life you were a scientist.☺️ I'm happy to know the rehydration rate! I don't know if I'll get around to doing this. I told my son free eggs for life (of the chickens) for building the coop and run.🙂 Also, my sis used to bring me fresh eggs from someone who lived close to where she used to live. Blessings always! 💜

I recently put the eggs in freezer like you, my husband was amazed, I told him I learned this from Heidi and yes he knows who Heidi is because I’ve done so much from watching you. You have taught me so much thru the years and Im so very grateful. I will try dehydrating too, I have the Excalibur dehydrator I use all the time, but I still have my old faithful round one I used for many years and it has the fruit roll up tray so it will work with eggs. I’m dehydrating apples today, first time ever, I normally can pie filling and make applesauce but have quite a few still on the shelf, blessings

ive discovered that having both dehydrated eggs and frozen eggs on hand is very handy, freezing whole eggs in the muffin baking pans then rebagging them in to freezer bags, like 2-4 egg pucks per bag then of course store in freezer. 1 puck usually = 2 raw eggs.(be good idea to measure ur eggs per muffin slot) then u just have to take out 1 puck if ur baking a cake ect.. then i also like to dehydrate them as you stated here on ur video, scrammbled eggs or better yet egg powder !! shelfe ready .. thank you for your videos, never get tired of learning new way to do things !!

My best friend is from Sri Lanka. He said his mom never peeled ginger. So, I stopped. Has made no difference in my recipes and, who knows, maybe there are some good nutrients and fiber in those skins! Also, after 3rd try, I finally got some to sprout. Fingers crossed on getting it to grow. How nice it would be to have fresh ginger at the ready any day you want some!

Thanks Heidi, I loved the video, I'm going to try to do the eggs tomorrow first thing. I'm hoping to get chickens in the next few weeks as we are coming into spring season. At the moment I'm buying local eggs but we always seem to run out. Powered eggs seem the answer and great for off season too. The best other tip was the fabric in with powder as I couldn't figure out what was going on with the food saver , it had been working so well. I've just invested in a finder to make powders and had that problem. Thank you for address it. You've saved me so much time. Thank you for sharing your knowledge I really appreciate it. ❤️

I freeze ginger whole and when I want to use it I grate if from frozen with a microplane then put the rest of the chunk back into the freezer. my question about the dehydrated eggs is does it have a strong unpleasant odor while dehydrating?

I watched your video just in time for my cooking with egg powder! I was wondering if I would use the same method for dehydrating egg whites (without cooking the eggs first) after separating from the egg yolk? Just a thought...By the way, thank you for all the great informative videos. God bless!

This is such excellent information! Thank you for this video. I was wondering, once you vacuum seal the eggs in the jar do they need to stay in the refrigerator or are they shelf stable now? Thanks so much
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 3 года назад
Just like with any raw food that one fully dehydrates, they should be shelf stable meaning no refrigeration is necessary. So I am storing them in my cool pantry for the extended time and the second jar will stay handy for using in cooking and baking. I have already filled up a second jar and am thinking of starting a third

Definitely wanting to try dehydrating eggs, I'm interested in how long shelf life it will truly be, or put in freezer? Your right about 6 months is the longest needed. Thanks for you video, BTW made your hair shampoo n growth tonic today. Hoping they work for this curly girl:-)
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 3 года назад
If one was uncertain, they could freeze the powder just to be safe and it would still take up far less room in the freezer than what I have been doing with the 1/4 pint jars and two eggs per jar. I need to do the experiment though because it is important for people to have an idea of shelf life outside of freezing. I believe they will last plenty long but do not want to say that with certainty since I have not tested it yet

This video is such a blessing for us. I have 2 holes in my pantry. Eggs and cheese. I can't wait to try this in my new dehydrator. We can't have chickens here, (don't get me started on that rant!) So I will have to watch the sales, but I like the idea of not having to go to town in a snow storm just for eggs! I'll check your other videos to see what you have to say about storing cheese. Apples-I had a beautiful crop coming on my 10 year old tree, until the neighbors dead elm tree fell on it and snapped it at 3 foot high. My poor tree looks like an upside down umbrella with a broken handle! We are pruning and trimming to try to save it.
