Dehydrating Peas or Veggies. Food Storage How To & Tips.

How do I dehydrate food and store it? I show you with frozen peas, but this applies to other frozen vegetables too. It also applies to fresh fruit and vegetables too.
I also show you how I store food long term and short term in my pantry, using Mylar bags, mason jars, oxygen absorbers, and vacuum sealing bags or Food Saver bags as some say.
👉 If using oxygen absorbers with food, please research what foods you can use them with and consider things such as the food having to have less that 10% moisture in it.
👉 When rehydrating, I will soak them in boiling water for about 30 minutes to an hour, while I am prepping my soup, stew or casserole for instance.
I then have them soaking away again in the hot food as it is cooking.
This may be 90 minutes to 2 hours by then and I do find that corn seems to take longer at times, but is still very much edible if rehydrating with peas in this amount of time.

Hi Daz, nice informative video. I find using baking paper is cheap and works out nicely. A tip that works well is when storing dehydrated foods, add a couple of tablespoons of uncooked risotto rice into a jar being screw cap or ball. I have done this for years and have never had the dehydrated foods go bad. The dried foods must be completely dry for this to work. I've been saving my used ball lids from water bath jars to use for my dehydrated foods as using new lids is way too expensive for my budget currently. 🌺 🌼🌸.🌺🌸🌼🌺 🌸 \ĺ/.\ĺ⁄.\ĺ/.\ĺ/...\ĺ⁄.\ĺ/...\ĺ/ It's a great day to have a great day!🌞

@MyAussieGardenKitchen
@MyAussieGardenKitchen 6 месяцев назад
G'day. These Mylar bags will not vacuum with the vacuum sealer I have. I know some do, but if you look at the plastic bags, one side is rough. With Mylar, they are completely smooth and it is very hit and miss if they vacuum or not. The oxygen absorbers do a great job though. I have bags 6 years old with just oxygen absorbers and heat seals and they are still tight and doing well. If I get a different brand of Mylar, I'll see if they vacuum better. Thanks very much and take care. Daz.

Hi Daz Have only just subscribed to your channel and I love it. Before I start dehydrating, I am trying to gather as much information on the process as I can. Do you by any chance know where I can find the food safety guidelines for dehydrating, I’m in NSW. I’m on the verge of buying a dehydrator, just trying to compare specs, may I ask what brand you use? P.S. I loved the way you cooked your Cottage Pie, can’t wait to give it a go. Am grateful for your knowledge.
@MyAussieGardenKitchen
@MyAussieGardenKitchen Год назад
G'day! Thanks so much for your kind words and for joining me here on my channel. I really do appreciate it and I actually had cottage pie for dinner tonight. 😊 We love that recipe here. I cannot find a specific food safety guideline for food dehydrating that has been set by an Australian authority, so I will cross reference with the USDA web site in the USA for instance as they have doen many tests and studies with food. The following web site is USA based, but has a lot of information and the numbers can be cross checked against other sources to base your own opinion. dehydratorblog.com/food-dehydrating-time-temperature-guide/ One tip I can give is to make sure the food you are dehydrating is "conditioned" and this basically means that you let it sit for a little while after dehydrating. You do not want to put warm dehydrated food straight into a closed container. Once in the container, check it daily for 7 days to see if there is moisture. If there is, check to make sure it has not gone off and if it's OK, dehydrate again. I have been planning on a video for beginners and must get onto that. This is the one I have with the stainless steel trays, but it is rebranded. amzn.to/3Ddm9nC This one is 6 trays instead of 9, but is more affordable and I have seen really good feedback on it. amzn.to/44DmQmp Just to be transparent, they are my affiliate links to the store and I will earn a commission if you were to buy via my links. I hope this is of help somehow and please feel free to get in touch any time. Good luck! Daz.

I dehydrated some peas and corn but they seem to take forever to rehydrate and still taste hard even after boiling for 30 mins. What did I do wrong?
@MyAussieGardenKitchen
@MyAussieGardenKitchen 2 года назад
G'day Salem 359. Ah! The detailed part on this did not record and I had to re-record and I managed to leave these details out when talking about it again. I am so sorry. I do find that times can sometimes vary for me and that the longer they soak, the better. Especially the corn. I will generally put them in boiling water first and let them soak for a good 30 minutes to an hour, while I am setting up and then add them and have them soaking away again in the soup, stew or casserole as it cooks. Ideally, I would say that soaking time is at about 90 minutes to 2 hours at this point. The longer the better and that would be about average for me. I can't insert updated footage to the video now, but I'll add it to the description and thanks so much for asking me this question. I would not have noticed this without you asking your question. I hope this helps and good luck, Daz.
