Some control tips- Holding spacebar while swimming at the surface will make you swim VERY slowly. Cinematic as all get-out, but still not great to expose yourself like that. If you sniff while resting at the surface for a few seconds, your animation will lock, the sound will be diminished, and you will also activate your water sense. Scenting increases your oxygen regeneration by about 30% You can grab things midwater with your dart. Very useful for pesky fish when you're smaller.
I know a way to regenerate air while being underwater mostly, you'll still give yourself away when you do move but I'm able to infinitely wait at 1 spot
@@kajsorensen1207 well if you think of how many people actually plays deino then you will understand it is necessary to also have deinos killing for fun. But if it is a problem the simple solution to it is to just not play it
@@Oskrrr exactly. When im struggling to find anything to drown, I wil just go around the river killing other deino. xD mostly out of hope they'll go grow something else. Too many deino in the river.
@@DefeatPete thats how i avoid shit. I stop and scan every few feet when im solo. Best defense against getting double teamed. See 2 bubbles..? Swim away fast or sit very still.
@@solitaregames yeah i really wish they didnt add NV for underwater, no idea why they added it, it gave deino players a tactic to hide because when you hit adult there's no such thing as running away.
1 tip Defeat Pete isn't telling you is that the Deino has an incredible attack range. Lets say there is a carno wanting to cross, or take a drink and they are nervous, they won't be standing anywhere near the side of the river, or maybe they know you are there and are standing far enough to think they are safe... Swim towards the bank underwater, just before your feet touch the rivers bottom on the bank, hold RMB, you will dash out of the river at incredible speed, as soon as you reach your target, let go of RMB and press and hold RMB again to lunge and grab, then just take it back to the river and kill it. NOTE, you can not touch the river bed, as it will initiate a lunge instead of a dash. You can dash from the surface too, but that removes the element of surprise!! Tip 2, when lurking at the bottom for too long, eventually you will need to come up for air...don't just go to the surface and stay there, it takes 5 mins to get your oxygen back up. Use the dash technique and dash into a near by bush, or better yet, lurk underwater where a bush goes into the river slightly, if you find a bush like this enter the bush and do a 180 so you are pointing back to the river. If you see anything approach the river to cross/drink then hold Shift/Ctrl and W to get back into the water as fast as possible undetected. The Flight Instructor (Defeat Pete might remember who I am :) )
@@gdouble4710 a lunge only produces a limited amount of damage, after that, you have to drown it or let go and bite it until it's dead. I can't remember the numbers, but a lunge does maybe 20% damage. So no, holding RMB after a lunge does not give any more damage.
@@gdouble4710 oh, btw, if the river is large enough, take them to the center of it, let go and bite them once or twice, grab them again, take them back to the center and bite again until dead. You don't always have enough oxygen to drown them. This is how I normally do my kills.
For deino players. Stop holding it until your stam is 0%. You drag it down, and then u bite it. Done, you got 60-70% stam left. Not to mention u can just drag it down again if needed.
I started playing this game 4 hours ago, because of your videos about it, and right when i started to wonder how to actually play deinosuchus and what the best strategies are, u made this video. Thank you for you're perfect timing and awesome videos.
@@neveragain881 If you want realism, then *Islander* is the go to server. if you're just out for carnage with zero rules, then *The Zoo* is the place to go to.
Another O2 tip, if you position yourself correctly by lining yourself up parallel to the riverbank, you can get O2 while still remaining somewhat hidden, I will say that it’s a bit more finicky to get back into the water undetected but it’ll work much better than resting on the riverbank. Do note, that it’s pretty finicky to get into that position and sometimes your deino slips and ends up underwater fully or floating again. One last tip, as of right now, Creatures on land can hear you bite and growl underwater, they shouldn’t and it’s a bug, but as of 2/3/2023 it’s still an issue.
how to make it as a croc. step 1: spawn south east. step 2: run to second pond crossing land. step 3: wait there for hours to grow. step 4: avoid people that dont say hi. cannibals are always the thing that kills you even though they arent hungry at all.
You're the reason I haven't given up on Deinosuchus. It's a long, grueling process but it's very rewarding in the end. Unfortunately I had to learn half this stuff by myself lmao thanks for giving me the missing pieces
Great tutorial and tips for Deinosuchus. Deinosuchus is my favorite creature to play as in the isle right now. I am still currently taking a break from the isle though. I haven’t played in like a year. Watching your videos and seeing what’s coming in update 6.5 makes me wanna play the game again. Love watching your Deinosuchus videos and I can’t wait to see more from you! Hopefully, I’ll see ya in the waters one day.
when I played Deino I would grow in the swamp because of the abundance of ai fish and the open ended design of the swamp made it easier to avoid other deinos. Now I just play Stego and kill deinos on sight.
Dont bite underwater, dont make any noise above water cause they can hear you from miles away, be as patient as possible, dont turn with wasd turn with your mouse, wasd will make a splashing noise
Those are some excellent tips, especially for the drinking spots! I did similar observations to you and have even been avoiding the popular spots that people use. It is a shame that the map is about to change so those spots will be irrelevant soon... But hey, it will be incredibly fun to explore new ambush spots with you
awesome guide ♥I told you already, I love your relaxed voice 🤗 you seem to be such a chilled mate :) the most interesting part to me was how many hits are needed for different prey. I never knew how big the difference between lunge and bite is and even more surprising was the fact that holding E while being grabbed doesn't make any difference. that's good to know :) but, there is one thing I experienced different. bigger deinos always catch up to me on the short distance on land. they seem faster. they just run low on stam more quickly, so, I also mostly escape on land, but, I often get bitten one or two times untill it is out of stam. specially if is was close behind when I left the water. but, could be me not running straight enough, too XD
Another tip: if you’re a full grown, head to northwest rock. There are usually other friendly deinos there, and you can easily bully raptors/carnos/anything except stegos to steal their kills.
@@handle-this-cock-youtube I run into canis every once in a while but it’s honestly pretty rare. I also play on NA servers so maybe that has something to do with it
@@samuelking4723 I only play NA servers. Usually NA1-4. I don't go up northwest too often, but the couple times I have I have been cannibalized. I supposed it's just luck of the draw
It's you deino mfers that won't stop killing me after I kill a baby Carno, or trying to get meat from the dead adult deino right there. Eat the fucking dead deino, not me. I just died like 5 mins ago because a random deino snatched me after I killed a baby Carno in a few minutes fight.
Pete giving us the deets! Nice! And by helping noobs, you'll have less crocs around you who stay seen and heard, meaning your own hunts will be more successful too! :D Love it
Another tip with deinos: You can lay on almost any riverbank being visibly submerged into water, but still be able to breath air and use scent as if you were outside water. How? -Stay in the limit between water and ground, parallel to riverbank, just before where your swimming animation starts. Your deino will "fall" into water because of gravity without triggering swimming animation. It's perfect when you want to get your air back but you don't want to be visible from outside water. I use it all the time and I have never seen other deinos do it. P.D. works best where the coast is not too steep
As someone who has spent a few hundred hours on Deino myself I agree with everything you said except for the skins. Im invisible with my carefully adjusted green skin that blends in perfectly with foliage and even patches of long grass in the South both during the day and night. This has made for many great scares and ambushes on meals and friends in vc alike ;)
I wish there was a good way to deal with other deinos as a solo adult, what I tend to do is hang out on this rock toward the east in the river by all the cliffs, it has only one way to get up on the rock and forces groups of cannibals to bottleneck in order to kill me, I've fought off numerous groups with up to like 3 full grown gators in them, usually they just leave when they realize there's no way to team up from all sides, I love taunting them in chat for needing 3 gators just to kill one player lmao
My playthrough following these tips: Get approached by big croco, instantly dash to lant after obviously being seen, glitch back and forth, get stuck in tiny tree, dead.
lmaoo the timing im crying, i just grew 2 deinos; first one got server wiped before i hit 100% ;/ and i'm currenly finishing growing the second one. thanks for the tips!!
Between watching your videos and another player's I've improved so much with deino. I've killed several stegos solo, and even more with friendly deino players now thanks to seeing how you do it. The only thing I struggle with now is cannis. Think I'm just too trusting, because in spite of all the trolls I still want to think that there's got to be SOME good people out there just wanting to be chill. :(
Hellou! Today is the day I finally decided to subscribe^^ I really like your videos. They also make me kinda sad but only because I would like to play Evrima, but my laptop can't take it:/
Great guide video. I find growing a deino easier at swamp. Not many other player deinos, infinite fish and sometimes there might be a tenonto or something else to kill, if u get lucky.
Quite useful tips - as a solo I am almost always a Utah though. But I do enjoy playing the river monsters now and then. Does the smell give you O2 faster o.O I have a feeling it does but need to test this still. The amount of canibals got me to do a full land crock session - was quite fun even though I died as a sub adult to a carno/utah mix pack.. but for those glorious few hours I was a land crock xD Enjoying your vids and streams keep it up (:
Since the very beginning of playing the game, I always use the 'silent hunter' strategy. Not making any sound, and use my surroundings to hide. Especially using colors that lets me blend with the river bottom when looked from above. This way any one seeking me would have a hard time finding me but I can know where everyone is. Sadly, night vision able to be used underwater ruined the tactic a bit.
This only works moderately well, but sometimes it’s worth it not to finish eating whatever you catch crossing rivers and instead use the corpse as bait for other carnivores at the edge of the river.
I think the skin colour can be important but I like to play the much more rare Landigator rather than the basic Deino. A light green skin makes you invisible when on grass and in bushes to a lot of people, grass/bushes are MUCH lighter green than people think they are so stay away from the dark green colours! otherwise you will find your gator does not blend in nearly as well as it could. The advantage of the Landigator is that people do not expect you to be there, its a well known fact that Deinos hide in the water, not the grass/bush 10-20m away from the water. Literally have had people walk on me while eyeing the water for any gators and especially while they drink they are not looking behind them so even a fully grown Landigator can usually attack them before they get away, you do pincer them against the river so they are limited in escape paths, even better is that if you grab something you immediately slide down into the water and hopefully, safety. The disadvantage is the semi-frequent drinking requirement and that since you are spending a lot of time on land, you do not know what is in the water. There could be 2-5 very brave Discordians passing by on their path to kill every solo Deino on the server for shits and giggles when you decide to take a drink or body slam prey into the water(running up and grabbing them from behind when they drink, immediately going into the water to drown them). I wish I could lock the growth of the Deino, would lock it around 30-35% because at that point you can grab quite a few things but you are still using the juvie land movement speed, massively extending the "kidnapping" range. Grab a Utah far from the water and run TO the water instead of hanging around IN the water waiting for them to come to you.
I usually grow in the swamps then head to NW waterfall always lots of action up there plenty of bodies to clean up NW has been a good spot to grow as well if you run into the right people they will help not everyone is out to cannie I almost never cannie unless I’m attacked first NW has so much food you can clean on land mostly no one needs to cannie unless they are just bored center is cannie central so I’d stay away from there as much as you can
I’m constantly amazed that anyone can play with the default key bindings. I learned my key bindings in 1995 playing Quake, and I’ve never switched. Right click is forward movement, left click is primary attack, G is secondary attack, s for backward movement, D for left and F for right. Never have to contort my fingers for anything really. Alt attacks are bound to my extra mouse keys and A for scent, H for rest. N for night vision. Side mouse button for sprint and other side mouse button for slow walking/air braking. Everything basically in a straight line across the keyboard.
I was playing on Islanders server and I was about 80% grown when 2 full grown alligators attacked me. I escaped to land but had to soon go back because I was thirsty, they were waiting me and ambushed me immadiately when they saw me coming to water even tho i tried to sneak my way to water from a different spot. I lunged away and got good lead, I drank and then they were already there, I escaped to jungle but they came after me, I had small deino with me who decided to follow me instead of going other way incase they were just interested about me. I went so far from the water I couldnt sniff it anymore but they came and I decided to fight them because i was taking damage from dehydration and was out of stamina. They killed me but atleast small croc escaped.
If your ever on a free gross server, ask for a grow to 0.74 you get grown to subadult and can run fast to snag both tenos and carnos and still have stam to run back Also ayyy there’s the clip with me in it lols
Thanks you soo much for the tips and guid really having hard time on using dieno im a begginer and i thought dieno cant 1v1 a stego but i was wrong thanks man❤
This is a great guide and really helped out, it just wanna learn how to deal with pteranodons, I know Q also leaves splashes behind that mimic fish jumping. Just I had a moment when a pteranodon was pecking me, followed it to a lake and was hoping to get it drinking but it didn’t…so wondering if there is a technique for that
In the swamp there little puddles, you can drink from them, without having the risk getting ambushed at Water. So you need only to get in water for fish
If you see a deino, hide and say hello. If they don't answer, stay hidden. If they do, chat a bit and keep an eye on them. Don't let them see you. It didn't used to be like this, but canni groups have become all too common and seem to camp spawn spots together...
Fun thing. I just looked through your channel exactly for this 🤣 nice tutorial, but I think there's some high frequency background noise when you talk sometimes. Could also just be my device maybe
Thanks! I noticed the noise once the video was done! No idea where it came from as its never been a problem before. I'll make sure to avoid it in the next one
Did you know for full grown stegos that you can't grab from lunge, if you wait for them to get in the water for crossing if you lunge them you can grab and drown them. Another tip after a few kills log off and take a break so that no one can send anything to your location to try to kill you. Like mix packers on voice chat. Doing this my croc it's still alive for a whole week and counting. Being patient waiting for stuff to cross to grab and down is the best way to never take any damage. Once a stegos feet hit land don't bother with it.
What is the best way for dealing with situations where the enemy deino bites first? Also, do you have any methods for escaping group assaults? Was playing earlier with a friend and we were both 100%, all of a sudden four come out of nowhere and double team us both, even with a few friendly fire bites there wasn't much we could do. I assume this isn't really stoppable if they're already on you, and hiding from the initial attack is the best bet, but I'm curious if you have any tips for this, and for being the second to bite in a fight(Especially when they wedge their body inside yours)
If you get bit first, it means you need to catch up! Something most other deinos won't defend well against is if you swim underneath them and alt-bite. The alt-bite has a bigger hitbox, making you hit and the other guy likely to miss, especially if your opponent does regular bites. Another way on top of this is to get into the rhytm, knowing when your opponent will bite the next time. Then you dodge 1-2 of those by swimming out of range just a little bit. I use both of these and almost never lose. If you get caught 2v4 and you can't run and hide into a forest, its likely over
im rdy for more guide! but any diet buff/resist in game to escape that drown tactic or if deino is full stam its kinda game over? and what the best diet combo when full growth?
i was with another baby deino and semi adault croc and then we saw two carni deinos and the adault sacrificed himself so we could get away on land and hide in a bush
@DefeatPete I was wondering, how can I improve my diet if all nutrients are down (not active), but my stomach is full so when I eat anything they do not improve? Am I just done or is there a solution? Also when I’m finally able to eat, the diet nutrition value I gain is basically nothing and it goes down faster than my hunger. I would really appreciate any help from anyone I cannot find any answers anywhere. Thank you.
Hey man I've been watching some of your videos and I love your content. I haven't seen this yet but what is your setup/in game settings. Your game looks great but your fps is phenomenal. Currently running a 3080 but still cant get over 60 fps stable.
I've got a rtx 4090, amd ryzen 9 7950x and 32 gigs of ram! But I did have a 3080 ti in my previous system and I had 60+ fps most of the time, so I believe your graphics card should do well enough :)
When I play deino I like to full grow hunt some things than when I'm done for the day just find a croc pod and have them eat me for food so I can start again
Hi i bought this game because u and ur amazing Videos its very cool but how can i take dead bodys from the grund of the river to the Land (i cant take dead fishs From the ground)
yea figured out the hard way dont trust anyone although some adults or players who were close to adult protected me while i grew so. Theres always people who are friendly just not to many.
Haha not quite! Its a sandy brown the colour of the beach floors instead of stark white. Some things have changed since this video though, and I'm quite visible to other gators under water in the dark
