After attending the Allentown train show decided to stop by the Delaware Lackawanna to see if they were running. We ended up catching up with PT-98 at East Stroudsburg, PA and chased to Portland and return. Power was the "standard" classic Alco and MLW locomotives which included 5 different models, M420W, C420 M630, C636 (last one in existence) and a M636 with a massive train of over 100 cars for interchange with Norfolk Southern. Many thanks to the DL employees who continue to keep these classic Alco locomotives running for future generations to enjoy. I can't think of anyplace else in the country where its possible to see 5 different models of ALCO/MLW locomotives running in mainline service.

They also have the CP Rail M636CAT (formerly numbered as CP 4711, now 71), with a Caterpillar prime mover installed in it. Mr. Scott Whitney has a video of it, in CP Rail paint, titled: CAT ON THE HILL, posted here on RU-vid. Approximately 1/2 hour long. The Caterpillar's prime mover supposedly runs around twice the RPM of its former ALCO prime mover, and utilizing antifreeze as a coolant instead of using water. Sounds definitely different! It's exhaust stack has also been relocated, so to suit this prime mover, towards the cab on the Engineer's side.

Maybe D-L will run freight over the rebuilt Lackawanna Cutoff in the future.

Victor Cyunczyk the cuttoff is only going to Andover and they have been talking for decades to connect it back to slateford so it doesn't seem possible. If there were freight running most likely NS or Morristown and Erie will do the job because the cuttoff is ending at Andover.

The cutoff will never be reopened. The opportunity was missed 25 years ago.

New Jersey Transit will and will be reopening the stations in Tobyhanna, Anamolink, East Stroudsburg and Blairstown and will be opening new stations in Scranton (The original will still be used as the Radisson hotel), Pocono Mountain, Delaware Water Gap (The original will still be used for Steamtown and will be a mile west from it) and Andover

Wide cab ALCos? They had wide cabs in the 60s or what? I thought only GP38-2s and GP40-2s etc had a comfort cab.

Those M420W's were built in Canada by Montreal Locomotive Works who had the rights to continue building Alco designed engines after the US company stopped production in 1969. Most of the M420W's were built for CN between 1973-1977. They had different trucks than US C420's as well and were one of the first wide cab locomotive designs.
