Please if you can give a shout out to the original owners once your done if that is possible. the bike has soul now.

The front tire is called a pizza cutter in the states, that's the only model I like. I used to do dry prep, unloading, uncrate, make sure # match keys, attach bars, roll into tech bay, wash and polish after fluids and test ride, shuffle show room for display. Those damn bikes are ridiculously heavy!! My love for Harley went away when you'd see a brand new bike keep coming back for minor and major repairs. Most were for accessories but the factory sent a lot of lemons. That was long time ago, right after the AMF years. When the FXDWG came out, I got in trouble all the time going for a joy ride, bikes just fit me!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Sounds like an interesting time Gary! Harley have had their ups and downs over the years, and about one in every 10 models they turn out becomes a classic, timeless future investment, ones like the FatBoy, Dyna WideGlide, Night Train and Softail Springer, become 'poster bikes', but all the others inbetween tend to disappear in to obscurity once they're superceeded!

Hi Paul, how wonderful to hear from you as usual, thank you for your kind words... we are certainly blessed to have landed such a great bike, not only in it's preserved condition, but also the wonderful story behind it, mechanically it's been pampered it's whole life with no expensive spared, all it is is a little tired and shabby from it's adventures arounf the world... and that, to us, it's provenance and it's badges of rank... it will be lovingly transformed in to a modern version of what this bike can be... I've always believed there's no merit in searching for the original factory look that was current 20yrs ago, it's a beautiful bike and will look more so with some sleek modern lines... thanks yuo as always, have a great weekend, stay in touch, D&Px

Make sure to upgrade the cam tensioners to either the hydraulic system from screaming eagle or swititch to a gear drive. The spring tensioners on the early twin cams are the weak link
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Hi Adam, all done byt he last owner, primary and secondary tensioners, both cam chains, roller tappets and Scream' Eagale 203cams... so all taken care of! Just another point on the gear driven conversion, that upgrade requires almost a brand new engine, cos any run out whatsoever on the shafts, can lead to catastrophic failure, a cam gear drive conversion in a Harley is a bit of a pointless upgrade because you can't do it on older engines due to the wear, you don't need to do it on the newer engines... the upgrades this has had will see it out for it's lifetime I reckon, all the best!

@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Hi Alex, I'm guessing this is an economy question, perhaps you have the 10w40 and not any 10w30? it won't do any harm mate, unless you plan to ride it through the ice ans snow in winter, the 10w40 is a slightly thicker oil when cold, but it still protects you across the range, that's what multigrades are for... if you're making the choice and you're gonna buy the oil, then buy the 10w30 as your manual says, but if you have the 10w40 there, and can't afford to by more, then once again, it won't do any harm mate, not on a little bike like yours, what's more important is that it's a good quality oil, don't go using Lidl's own brand! Make sure it's a decent quality oil and change the filter with it, and you'll be fine mate... hope that helps, good luck with it fellah, all the best

Delboy, glad to see you back on a power bike. I have thoroughly enjoyed every video. I have a FXD35I. A word of warning for the early 88 twin cams, the chain tensioners for the cams are springs, they fail around 40K and will END the engine for you. Please research. Also the Compensator on the Primary is a weak fail point. Looking forward to the restoration. Ignore the naysayers, plenty of support out there for this project. John from South Carolina US. Later

@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Hi John, wonderful to hear from you buddy... and thanks for your kind support, I forgot to mention on the video that we seriously lucked in on the cams, as the whole lot has been replaced... primary and secondary tensioners, new chains, rolelr tappets and a pair of SE203 cams... so the whole issue deleted, and in fact, upgraded... I think the receipt for it all came to about £1800, it was a major factor in the decision to buy it with confidence... Not only that, but it has a text book service history, which means I can focus on doing the bike up and not having to repair everything and put straight a lifetime of wear and tear! Appreciate your support, first Harley project video online mid-week buddy... have a great weekend!

Just found this series and am looking forward to watching it progress!. I have a question though, are you planning on inspecting the spring loaded cam chain tensioner system? I have an 02 Heritage Softail and had to update mine. luckily before the shoes wore down enought to break up and clog the oil pump. Best to you!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Hi Don, I struck lucky with that on this bike... everything has been done, both tensioners, both chains, roller tappets and some SE203 cams... and best of all, it was only done 1000 miles ago... also interestingly, when they got the casing off, everything inside was like new, almost no wear, possibly because the bike has always been serviced on cue by the same main dealer that sold it to them 19yrs ago! Really lucky for us, because now I can rest easy and just enjoy customising the bike end enjoying it !

Wow Del, lot of work to be done on the old girl, and at least it’s been used and the previous owner has had serious fun with it. It does have a lot of potential, but as you were saying, probably best not to stray too far away from original just upgrades , recoating. Will it be a full strip down to bare frame? I guess it will have to be. Looking forward to the new project mate.👍🏻

@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Hi Mike.. The bike wont be a major strip down, it just doesn't need it. its a clean and well cared for bike, with just a lot of tired old bolt-ons that need replacing.. and as it's sat for two years or more and done very little.. it'll need new fluids at the end... but the main work will be some bang up to date new styling.. and a little TLC.. its a short terem build and not a major project.. take care and have a great week.. Del.

OK! Now we're back to normal service, very much looking forward to this one! Had the solo version of that seat on my first Sportster 883 (1999) and I replaced the two up Sundowner it came with for the spare stock item immediately and never regretted it. I love them. Its a smashing bike with quite a pedigree. It's kind of the same project I had where I was restoring the bike to pretty much stock, removing the bling bolt on's for a more tasteful stock look. Kind of the reverse that was the trend 20 years ago. I'll be the first to admit that I've been quiet for a while, although I've watched every second of the fighter build and enjoyed the fabrication, but ultimately it's just not my thing. Absolutely no offence, damn it I'll support you through thick and thin having been around since pretty much the first few tentative videos. This has been coupled with a kind of change for me in what I want from biking, and I'm much more into the solo travel thing with a recent investment in a relatively low powered dirt orientated bike, the Honda 250 Rally which is much more suited to the rides I want to do both on and off road around the Pennines and Keilder Forest which are right on my doorstep now that I live out in the sticks. Not your bag either I'm sure. Nevertheless, I just wanted to write something right at the start of this exciting project to touch base and extend my continued love to you both, especially in a world that seems to throw some unnecessary, unjust, unpleasantness in your general direction in a very personal way. It sickens me. Your ol' friend Peter
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Hi Pete, why would you ever think any offence would be taken... we don't expect people to keep in touch all the time, we all have busy lives and bikes are a very generic thing, sometimes they divide us in to groups, other times they bind us together... I remember out chat on the phone way back when we first got to know each other, you're a gentleman in every way my friend, and I never thought any less... We have been on the end of some sour behaviour in the last couple of years, but with the way society works, it was all because one particular person orchestrated it, and mark my words my friend, he will suffer for it in the end... Thing like that say more about them and their low intelligence, short attention span and unhappy lives than they ever do about us... they possess neither the power, or strength, to be a decent person, because it takes both of those qualities to be a responsible adult, so it leaves only to pity them for the sorry individuals they are... we are marked and judged by the behaviour we display to others, which is why it's always important to keep your dignity and respect. Keep in touch my friend, this short project is gonna be a combination of repair and restoration, whilst modifying it for a new modern sleek look to bring it up to date... I have an outline in mind, but I don't allow details to drive me, I make those up along the way... stay in touch, all the very best, your friends, Del & Pennyx

Hi Del, the last street fighter build video was awesome, what a cool bike, all due respect to you and I know that Harley,s are true to your heart but for me was disappointed that you didn’t go for a old school two stroke like a Yamaha RD or something round that era, we,ve seen so many Harley videos before with oil changes and fluids, but I’m sure you will enjoy it, and bring the old girl back to life but it’s just not my bag. Enjoy your weekend Del and Penny.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Hi Russell, thanks for your feedback buddy, You're right Harley's are my passion, and this was too good an opportunity to pass up, "the right price for the right bike" and all that.. The problem with old ageing two strokes is the stary eyed nostalgia of the mid-lifers who want to relive their spotty yoof..(thats me too i guess, but im realistic)... they've made anything that was once the passion of the teenage riding fraternity into "classique gold bars".. im seeing prices for old 350 LC's that just crack me up.. £5k for a restored one, and £3500 for a shabby example... and that wasn't even a wall poster bike.. it was just what we rode in the 80's... try and find an RG Gamma 500, or a 500LC and you'll need new car money.. its gotten ridiculous mate... And that means that ALL the prices for "classic" 70's and 80's bikes has followed suit.. im now seeing obscure and once unpopular bikes like CB350 honda "dream twins' for £2k... they're £300 at best and thats if they're clean and on the road. and dont get me started on bloody CX500's..wtf?. So all in all mate, i just don't want to get involved in the ridiculous over priced market for cheap Japanese commuter bikes that are all asking ten times their value.. i paid less than sportster money for this Dyna, and its what i wanted to build for my use.. not for profit or some kind of 'investment'.. Stick with it buddy, i think you'll maybe like the style of this once ive got it looking more up to date.. i will have to change the fluids im afraid, but that helps a lot of our viewers save a lot of money.. and that has to be a good things aye buddy... take care and have a good weekend yourself.. Learnt a lot on the paint side (bloody fish eyes drive me nuts !) seeing all the basic errors I've made recently. Wonder what the black and silver swirl would have looked like done in 2k using pro equipment ? As in your early days I have to work full time to support my unit, buy tools, equipment and bikes which leaves annoyingly little time to concentrate on completing projects, seems to take forever to get paintwork prepped and finished. Got loads more playlists to go through which I'm really looking forward to. Always wondered if you'd do an ST1300 rat project ? Keep up the good work 🎉🎉🤟

Hey buddy, you may have noticed, it's actually not clamped at all, the clamp is backed right off, you shouldn't clamp those wheels, as you say, I've seen evidence of actual fractured spokes for just such a practice, not only that, the damn thing is so long that if I did try to clamp the wheel the back wheel would trap the ramp lol, so I had to move the front lip right forward to get the whole bike on the lift!
