Hi Phoebe! If you want to delete all the Facebook emails, you could just do a search for emails "from" Facebook. I made a video about more advanced searching in email and Mac: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZTFVxyHipW0.html You're right to be slower and more careful with that amount of email. It just takes the Mac a lot of time and work to do that. Safest if you do it in batches and wait to make sure it deletes. Or even better, if you use Gmail as your email account and Mac Mail just connects to that, you can log in to gmail.com website and delete the emails from there. Yeah if you have tens of thousands of emails you will need a fast Mac, and fast internet for it to go smoothly. Otherwise indeed you need to do a few thousand at a time. Haha cheers, I appreciate that... it's a risk I take, giving people this tip! Sadly this doesn't actually unsubscribe from the emails; you would still need to click the unsubscribe link in the email, but at least you can see them all in one list and have them grouped together by the "biggest offenders" so you can just unsub once from that website/company then delete all the emails.

What happens when you use gmail search for the word "unsubscribe" ?

Yeah this tip is for Apple Mail on a Mac... but on my iPhone when I searched for "unsubscribe" and choose "all mailboxes" and just press the bottom right Search button (ie. don't tap on people or subjects search type) I got thousands of emails. So maybe it's the specifics of what options you're tapping on. But this will still be best and easiest in Apple Mail.

I think there would be easier ways of doing that... ways that don't involve manual work. Who is your email host? If you move to GSuite or Gmail the spam filtering is much better. Then just unsubscribe from all the newsletters you want to delete.

You will need to go into the email and unsubscribe! You can sort by "From" to unsubscribe from each vendor in alphabetical order.

Nope... if you search for them then select all and delete, it doesn't open them. The preview pane can only show one email at a time.

You can do a google search for erasing and restoring the Mac using Recovery mode. Restart holding one of these key combos: Command (⌘)-R Install the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac. Option-⌘-R Upgrade to the latest macOS compatible with your Mac. Shift-Option-⌘-R Install the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version still available.

Ah that usually means the "delete" operation didn't finish, or maybe your internet was not fast enough where you were... they go into that recovered emails folder when Apple Mail has trouble deleting or moving them. You can delete them from there, and do the same operation again, just on fast internet... and give it a solid 30-60 mins to do the deletion if there are many emails.

@@sufoto I've found that deleting hundreds (or more) emails at once can bog things down. I suggest doing maybe 100 at a time, at your leisure. Also, you need to unsubscribe from the companies if you don't want more to arrive in the future.

The only time I have seen this behaviour is when your internet is slow, or you don't give it enough time to do the email operation. The suggestion of doing smaller chunks is a good one!
