@@Thandulfan he might not get as many views as some bigger channels, but I think he's earned a lot of respect from other reviewers on RU-vid. The knock on effects having Rabea review your gear are probably the more attractive bit for a company
Just to clarify something you said. The toggle switch you said was for a boost isn't for a boost. It's for assigning the presence and depth to one or both of the channels or to turn them off completely. Other than that you did a great job as always Rabea!
This is the only other Synergy module I plan to buy, as it is representative of the VHT/Fryette Sig:X's Rhythm channel (i.e. home). EDIT 1: It is disappointing, with no disrespect intended, that Bea did not learn how the Deliverance's gain controls work; it is no exaggeration to say that they are the defining feature of the amp. Gain I is a voicing control, which controls both the amount of distortion and the tonality of distortion (low settings produce a treble and upper mid emphasis, which transitions into a low mid and bass emphasis at high settings); Gain II is an overdrive control, which controls both the amount of distortion and the amount of saturation (i.e. compression). Steve Fryette's preamps are unique in how they can produce tremendous distortion without significant saturation-the "dry" alternative to a "liquid' lead. Using high settings on both gain controls and engaging the More switch (which adds a gain stage) will produce the most compression, with a low mid and bass emphasis which will come as close to "liquid" leads as the Deliverance is capable of delivering. EDIT 2: The "Red/Off/On" switch does not control the More switch's boost, as Bea stated; rather, it determines whether the Presence and Depth controls are engaged.
Love the detail in this comment - I too noticed that the reviewers didn't experiment enough with the Gain I setting - it is an absolute game changer of a knob on an otherwise incredibly straightforward amp.
You know what I'd like to Actual Deliverance Head. That would be great! I owned a Deliverance Head when they where VHT. the D-120, loudest tube amp I ever heard neverminded own! Fantastic amp heads. Now you show me a way to have that incredible head again for around $400.00 USD. I'm checkin' this thing out! Thanks Rabea for the great video Much Appreciated!
I'm still amazed that we don't yet have a module from Bruce Egnater, the brains behind the whole synergy project? an Egnater Vengeance module would be killer 🤘
Incredible. It shocks me to admit this, but I think I would actually prefer this over a JCM. Same great tone, but way more versatility. Steven Fryette is a genius.
A guy I recorded once brought in a Fryette Sig-X, and Jesus that thing sounded absolutely magnificent. Probably the best high-gain sound I'd heard at the time.
As I wrote in another comment, this is essentially the Rhythm channel of the Sig:X in a module (I do not know how the cathode resistor and capacitor switching in this module compares to the Channel Voicing switch's positions on the Sig:X). In case you were wondering, the Fryette Pitbull module is essentially the Lead channel of the Sig:X in a module. I plan to sell my Sig:X as soon as it is safe to do so, relative to COVID-19, and this module will give me my "home" channel from the Sig:X whilst allowing said amp (my white whale) to be used by someone who can handle its size and weight (my spastic cerebral palsy has gotten to be too much, and I will have plenty of help with packing and shipping). EDIT: I should mention that the SYN-1's Sag control is essentially an adjustable version of the Sig:X's Dynamic Sensing Technology.
You absolutely killed it with the tones you got here Rabea. Had me literally sitting next to my own Deliverance 60 wanting to get one of these units. Edit: Only wish you would've experimented with how well this amp cleans up (without losing sustain/sag/compression/fluidity) simply by adjusting the volume knob and pickup selection on your guitar. That signature feature of the Deliverance amps might also benefit from their KT88 poweramps and output transformers though, so I am uncertain how it would be with EL34's/other poweramps. But I do know that the dynamics in the full amps are incredible!
That opening riff on the video was dripping with so much DNA of Nuno B it was almost obscene. And it made me go slightly weak at the knees. Was absolutely awesome!
I think Rabea missed the rationale behind the two gain knobs. The left knob is a gain and tone shaping setting. Lower settings give you a thinner / brighter sound and higher gain settings are darker. The second gain knob is only a gain knob. Anyhow, it sounded great.
Really great demo Rabea, the thing sounds great, came from John Browne's channel after watching his and thinking how awesome it sounds! Mentioned there that I used to love Page Hamilton's huge, dry and percussive sound he gets from the VHT amps back in the day! Think you;ve found you're high gain tones perfectly with this module and the Friedman amp tones you did previously
That is soooo killer! It's got that Traynor like punishing high/mid concussion on channel one....then channel two is so freaking 80's nasty...I have been running my SYN1 in the loop of my Super Kraken (with an Engl Savage module), and I think this is the module I need now! ...BTW, thank you so much for developing the Kraken with Victory; it's to become a true amp of legend! Seriously, absolutely everyone I know loves that thing! \m/
Excellent Sound, Very Good Revue Rabbea! Greetings from San Francisco,20 weeks lock-down gives Me a Chance to Play more and Watch more Vids. Just Saying I Always Enjoy Yours!
Sounds awesome; I'm buying it ASAP. BTW, the mode switch isn't a boost. It lets you assign the presence and depth controls to both channels or just the red channel. The tones you were getting were just amazing!!!!
That’s right. So if you turn up the Presence and Depth, naturally, they’ll “boost” those frequencies when the controls are activated (Mode On or Red) compared to when they’re disabled.
@@soundcityamps6226 Hi Steve, thanks for working to make my favorite part of my Sig:X in a package which is small enough that my spastic cerebral palsy's progression will not force me to live without it. I hope there will be a Sound City module in the future!
Rabea awesome man! Never shoulda sold my old VHT Del 120… in OTHER news Ive been jammin all day on my new Friedman BE pedal thru a Katana 100. Sounds SOO close to the old Deliverance! You are sellin me on Synergy 🤘🏻🤓😁
I would love to see you get your hands on a Hook Wizard Amp. That thing is before its time, such a genius invention. A true Analog Tube/Valve amp in signal path but controlled digitally. U can create presets that u can control via a codex knob on the faceplate, footswitch, or midi and has motorized knobs that turn to the preset positions. The only digital aspect of the signal path itself is digital reverb and if using the line out on the back of the amp it has an IR cab loader. So cool. I really want to see more of them besides the one ive seen on Paul David's channel.
So like George Lynch did with Randle amps with his Lynch box modules, I bet but would be nice if his modules would work and all companies and pro guitarist would jump on board and sell their favorite type amps and tubes etc yes? You rock Rabea!
well, after weeks of watching gear videos of all the "modern" amps that sound like clanking two pieces of re-bar together i think i've finally decided this is the one. now. deliverance or pitbull, or sloooooo
The real deliverance runs on 4 KT88's... it would be cool to run that synergy pre into a KT88 power section and see if it sounds similar to the actual amp. I think you'd be blown away if you played a real deliverance. They are friggin amazing.
I have a deliverance II 120 and Syn50 head w/deliverance module. There's not much difference at all.. the Syn50 can THUMP like a it had a bigger power section.
Hi Bea, I saw this comment on your insta about How to sound like Toska using only Tone city pedals. I’d love the idea of you using only those affordable tiny pedals to see how close you can get. Any chance you’ll give that a try in the foreseeable future?
That module is very nice, cause I have a Laney Ironheart 120 coming, that I just ordered. And it’s good to know that I can branch out and have tones without it costing a bunch of money. These amp companies must know that Guitar Pickers are notoriously Broke. Ha Ha Haaaa, much love brother.
You can hide the module behind a Fender Tweed for a live show. Anyone who comments on how you get such a raging sound from a bloody Tweed, just tell 'em "it was a little bit hod rodded.!"
Hi Rabea, Great Video and Tone is Amazing! What is your recording chain? Oops... Sorry went back and your using Friedman. But are you mic'ed up or Ox Box?
Great review, the Fyette sound amazing. Actually there is a difference when it comes to power sections of tube amps. I run a Helix LT through the Return loop of a Marshall DSL 20w head el34, Mesa mk5 35 head el84 and an Orange Dark Terror el84 head and they all sound different. The Marshall power section being the best IMO. Now I run the Helix LT through an Orange Pedal Baby and it sounds great, into a 2x12 cabinet with Helix cabs off. I only use the Pedal Baby now for consistency when creating presets. I am thinking about picking of a SYN-1 and running it through the Pedal Baby. I seen your Bogner Uberschall video and you seem to be blown away by that module. How would you compare it to this Fyette?
I could've gotten 2x preamp plugins for a little over 150 each last year, but it was still too new to me... I watched Pete Thorn just kill Leigh his tone on the one he was given. Sad I passed up that huge sale!
Hey Bea, I recently got a Katana 50 Mk2 and wanted to download some of the patches you said you’d be making, but can’t find anything on how to. Do you know how to import patches?
Yeah man, obviously with the whole pandemic situation it slowed down production. Mainly some of the hardware parts etc. But I believe mid summer they should be shipping to stores
Hey what's up everybody? I was wondering if anyone might shead some light on how much these Fryette/ synergy cost? Thanks everyone & have you a dope weekend!!! jc
Mo Khayat I think you could just use the Syn 1 and go in to the inputs of the axefx , disengage the amp section and just use the axis as a cab simulator
