Honestly I can relate. I ordered jimmy johns a couple weeks ago and they left it in the lobby of my apartment building, and there's a couple people who live here who are known for stealing people's packages and food orders, so I was like. Oh shit. Better hurry. But apparently I took too long, because my food was gone when I went there and then i had to call and tell Jimmy John's what had happened which I don't think they believed and I was very hungry, and it all was a mess.

As someone who worked at a family restaurant that NO LONGER USES doordash, it was awful. We ended up closing door dash orders super early because they kept showing up after we closed our kitchen despite that. I, as the person who managed the 35-item order and stacked it perfectly into four large bags and directly handed it to the driver, got 0 tips from all of my effort and they charged the restaurant a huge commission. And don’t even start me on the drivers who’d take the wrong person’s order if I didn’t directly hand it to them or take only one of the bags and then I’d be the one with the angry phone call. The doordash bell sound still haunts me to this day and I will never work for a restaurant that uses doordash again. It sucked.

As a business owner Postmates is the worst. Postmates has added our business to their app and will not delete it since their whole thing is delivery for anything and everything. Well that's cool and all but our business information and menu is incorrect and if we want to have control over the information we have to partner with them and that includes us paying money we don't want to pay. We would rather just not be on their app and avoid all the problems since we have started getting calls complaining to us about orders that they placed on postmates that we don't even have on our system. Overall dealing with them has been a headache for the last couple of years.

I work at a bagel shop that does delivery with DoorDash. There are many reasons why I hate having to make food for DD. First: people seem to order the most ridiculous things which makes them time-consuming to make, which is infuriating most of the time because now that’s one less person making food for the people in line. Second: DD doesn’t know when we’re out of certain items, making it frustrating when someone orders something that we’re out of. Third: the drivers get really impatient when the food isn’t done by the time they arrive to pick it up. Like sorry man, there’s a big ass line of people wanting to order, we simply just didn’t have the time/personnel to put your order together. It also doesn’t help that the drivers usually arrive mere minutes after we receive the info for the order.

as someone who's now been on both sides, I can now see why the driver is upset when it's not done on time. Most of us are paid per order, so if we're expecting a $5 dollar order to take 10-15 mins total, but then arrive and its not even started, that might be stretched out to 20-30 mins, and now instead of $20, you're making about $5 in an hour. Obviously that's no excuse to use any slurs(definitely crossing the line), but if a driver seems annoyed, that's why. there definitely should be some understanding on both sides, but you could be really screwing someone over if you're prioritizing orders made after the one the driver is coming to pick up. I've started to just leave and assign it to someone else though now if the order is 5+ mins late.;

Additionally as you making that transition from delivery apps to drivers, to try to compensate for the loss in customers you can up your social media presence and have a flyer come with every food app delivery advertising to order from the store directly. Good luck!

@bettyg9707
@bettyg9707 3 года назад
Oh, 21% yeah, they say for you to sigh up. Then they tell you that it was just a base fee to literally just sign up. If you want to be seen (as in if someone search a general food category, your restaurant will be listed) it goes up to 30 to 40%. Also, as mentioned in the video, people do not call the delivery service for anything! Our food is usually ready in 10 minutes, packed securely in a bag. But we get blamed for late food, cold food, messy food, wrong food and so on. They always demand refund which we can't give cuz we don't even have their info! But at the same time, we understand their frustration cuz you can't never ever get to the customer service. (Or at least that's what people say. ) But we still use the service because it's still better than no customer. It is so frustrating.

In 1930’a the tax rate on the rich and corporation was 70%, the next couple of years they brought it down to 25% and captured more revenue. When you increase taxes on corporations they increase the prices of the product; thus they never pay taxes, you do. When you increase taxes on the rich they invest it in securities, that’s why no wealthy individual pays high taxes... read a book. Free to Choose by Milton Friedman is a good start but might be too complicated for you.

Ugh, the last restaurant I worked at had an ongoing war with Postmates. We were not connected with any delivery service (on purpose, because it was a ramen place and that stuff doesn't deliver well), but Postmates would have their drivers call in for take-out, pretending to be regular customers, and then not inform us they were with Postmates until they arrived and tried to pay with a Postmates card. The kicker was that Postmates didn't even have our actual menu...they let customers "suggest" and order items they thought we might have, forcing us servers to get into actual arguments with stressed-out, pissed-off drivers who would show up looking for items we never, ever had on our menu. We called Postmates more than once demanding they remove us from their restaurant list, and they always claimed they couldn't (wtf??). I'm out of the restaurant business for now, but I will absolutely never order through Postmates because, wow, fuck that company.

i used to be a hostess at this fairly popular restaurant and the number of calls i would have to deal with pertaining to issues with orders from doordash/uber customers. at first- i'd spend time explaining what was wrong but then my manager told me it's literally not our job to do that. drivers would call sometimes asking if it was ready, super frustrating. but the WORST is that despite having a sign that Literally reads "please see hostess for seating AND UBER/DOORDASH ORDERS- drivers would come in, grab a bag- we had them labeled a certain way so they typically couldn't tell unless they were experienced and came often (but the regulars always talked to us and were super friendly- they know better)- and leave. then we would get an angry call about how their order was wrong without us even knowing it was taken. also- the food industry already underpays its staff...and relies on tips which in the wintertime is shite! so disgusting how these apps r literally taking advantage of restaurants. i understand not all customers are physically/mentally able to get their food themselves, but seriously- if you can, get your own damn food, please, and tip your servers well, even if you caught them on a bad day

And honestly, I hate saying this because I believe in tipping delivery people, but except for about 2 people, every single dasher we've got has been incredibly rude and it sucks slaving over food and drinks only for someone who yelled at us to get the tip and doordash's shitty system takes a high commission. So when 2 times in a row Wendy's didn't deliver half my order, I found out from the driver that they can't even see the items in the order when you place it through Wendy's. So they can't confirm the items. I then tried to get a refund through Wendy's and....well they just ignored me on all customer service platforms and it was impossible to get a response. So maybe I should have just went to doordash. Except doordash didn't have the $5 biggy bag listed or the customization that the Wendy's app had. Most companies show a loss as a way to side skirt "taxable income" and it's 100% legal according to code. For example, they could invest their income back into the company to help grow, and that would show up as a business expense, even though it's coming in as gross profit. Our tax code is insanely complex and there's hundreds of thousands of ways business can finesse numbers to shelter taxable income. As long as money is coming in, they will remain highly valued. This is a gross simplification of things, and looking at a companies stated tax losses is a poor way of evaluating the success of a company. The more you know.

@@Tayl0r_ It's not a bad thing. It's specifically there because we want to encourage companies to invest in themselves, the exact opposite of pumping up profits for stock growth. Hiring more employees, buying more machinery, expanding to a bigger space, raising employee's pay, better benefits, newer equipment etc all of that is investing income back into the company to "skirt" taxes. Also it's not really an independent concept. Companies pay taxes on profit. Profit = Revenue - Expenses. All investing back into the company means is the company is paying more in expenses and if you're good at it expenses = revenue so you have zero or negative profit. Amazon spent 12 years doing this; spending revenue and raised capital to open more warehouses hire more workers and just in general expand so they didn't pay income taxes for 12 years because they didn't turn a profit. This is a good thing though, since it means the 20~30% of money that would've went to taxes actually went into the pockets of employees. This also means no dividends or profit distribution to shareholders, so most companies are pressured to stop doing this if the return on investment is lower than just actually having a profit.

I know not everyone's in a position to do this, but I've taken the option of refusing to use any of these apps. In Australia the issue we've also had is a lot of delivery people are on bicycles, many of them are immigrants/on temporary working visas, and several of them have been killed. And then the company refuses to pay any compensation because they're technically "independent contractors" and not direct employees. I'd rather not feel like somebody literally risked their life to deliver me food.
@StreakyBaconMan
@StreakyBaconMan 2 года назад
I was all with you up until the last sentence. There is literally no way to get food delivered where the delivery person isn't putting their life at risk - all forms of travel are somewhat risky. Car accidents do happen, and even people on foot aren't immune from a traffic accident. One of my old jobs was to ride a bicycle around the CBD with a huge billboard towed behind it, and I had to ride on the roads because there are no bike paths in the CBD - I would have been pretty pissed off if advertisers started telling my boss "well we don't want to use you anymore because what if one of your riders is in an accident and dies?" costing me that job despite the fact my boss was more than reasonable - I was an employee not a contractor, I earned slightly above minimum wage at 18yrs old so I was happy with that, and all the equipment I used was paid for and maintained by my employer rather than myself. That was a pretty good deal for me back then and I am glad I had that job. The main problem I see with food delivery apps and rideshare apps is they do not offer their "contractors" that seem an awful lot like employees adequate compensation for the risks they are expected to take when performing their job. If Uber were to classify their drivers as employees, pay for the cars and maintenance and pay the employees more than minimum wage then I'd be fine with it.

I was having to explain to poor door dash drivers that the drink was discontinued fod over a year afterwards. Starbucks is a giant chain and these major menu changes are nation wide so it baffles me that this went unnoticed for so long. How, just how??

yeah i work at a restaurant and legit those tablets consistently beep. we are a pizza place and we have our own drivers but we use this to cater to customers outside our delivery zone. uber eats usually doesn’t deliver to neighboring towns so our drivers will be on the road for 45 minutes taking one delivery where they don’t get tipped. not to mention we manage these orders on top of our regular orders and the items the have on their menu usually aren’t like real things. they will put a special sauce on the pizza that’s not a thing or have different names for things we have and then customers get angry. not to mention to amount of times these tablets crash and refuse to print orders. then the drivers come shove their phones in my face while i’m helping customers and start yelling doordash so i have to go find their order and tell them it’s not ready. honestly ik this video was a joke but it was so true 😂😂

I work for DoorDash and they have “stacked orders” meaning you pick up two orders in the same area and drop them off. Had someone steal an order I was suppose to pick up, but I had no time to wait around because I had to deliver the second order. Called DoorDash and they gave me a penalty and told me if I got another they would suspend my account. ✨

My restaurant doesn’t even WANT to use DoorDash and we get SO many orders from them. Since we don’t use an app or anything with them, a robot voice calls in to place the order. We started hanging up on the automatic voice but then the driver has to call in the order to us themselves and we feel bad. We’ve started calling them Dine-and-dash for the amount of times the driver says “they paid online” (we don’t have an agreement with them! This isn’t possible!) or the driver doesn’t even pay the full amount for the tab and when they can’t pay they leave?!? And IF the driver shows up it’s ALWAYS over an hour later. We’ve lost hundreds in sales/a number of guests because of DoorDash and I know other stores have similar complaints. Ugh. Thank you Drew! “Liked” the video before it even started. Fuck these apps End rant

Wait i’m so confused and so curious, so is the restaurant a chain that uses the app elsewhere or is it just a stand-alone that is on one of these delivery apps bc if it’s a standalone restaurant, there is no way it should be possible for the app to let people order your food through them. But if it’s a chain that has other locations use the app, you can literally just download the app and say that the restaurant is closed so people don’t order on it.

They need to send you a tablet. That’s why these companies lose so much money. Because they’re providing every restaurant a tablet to use their service.

Same here. I work a drive thru where we have no affiliation to door dash, however over half our orders are door dash drivers "picking up" orders when we NEVER do pick ups. Not to mention they're the worst people to deal with especially in drive thru where we're just trying to get everyone out. Very rarely do we get the same door dash drivers twice and we have to explain every single time that they have to pay and it's always a hassle.

@@Awesomeasumpta13 Yea that's the purpose of it. It's better, I think, to tell the customer "you know what? Either you make an order worthy of our time or we don't provide delivery because our delivery drivers are busy getting profitable purchases delivered" rather than put a ridiculous fee on a single sandwich order. At least that way you make the customer more conscious of what the policy of the company is. Honestly I don't know. In my country (Greece) you just don't pay for delivery costs, just the food you order. However, since the restaurant is employing the drivers, they get a monthly salary which can be less profitable for both the drivers and the establishment itself.
