On the spark arrester,, Delkevic makes a spark arrester baffle for your pipe, it is on line under accessories. It fits the 14 and 18 inch ovals, price is about 52.00. This will make us legal in all forest areas. Carl
Wow! That’s great news! I’m pretty sure that was not available last year when I bought the exhaust. I’ve actually been looking at it since your comment the other day, and I was devising a contraption to replace the standard baffle by turning a piece on the lathe and getting a friend who’s a much better welder than I am to tack on some stainless mesh I’ve got. I’d much rather buy the factory arrestor though. Thanks, Carl! I’ll pin this comment as I’m sure others will find this helpful as well.
@@SuburbanPathfinder For sure, I also found out today that the Forest service (will not) accept a homemade spark arrester, so great news indeed.. If you read some of the comments on the S A its does not say spark arrester, it says something about being a SCREEN model so the Forest folks might make you take it out for examination ( no biggie though)..
Great exhaust comparison - covered it all, thanks. Delkevic has a nice sound & seems like reasonable decibels - wow, that stock can really does weigh a ton.
The stock exhaust is an absolute anvil. Just ridiculous. The bike is still heavy but it felt like a ballerina after I swapped it out for the Delkevic. Thanks for commenting!
Really liked this video, moving to a KLR from a Himalayan (I love my Himalayan it’s been a great do anything bike) but at 5’11 it’s hard for me to deal with the cramped package over an hour at a time. A KLR is a logical jump for me and still affordable. Now that they are fuel injected it’s just even more a reason for me. I knew I’d be swapping the pipe though and I think this may have sold me.
I’ve been very happy with mine so far. There is a Royal Enfield dealer almost as close to my house as the Kawasaki dealer. I took a look at the Himalayan and I really like the concept of it. But, at 6’2”, there was just no way. I want to do long days in the saddle and I’m learning that even the KLR will need some adjustment to fit my needs. After riding my cousin’s Africa Twin a bit, I think even that would need some modifications for me. The KLR should be a great fit for you. I love the Delkevic but it definitely needs the baffle in. I’m too self-conscious about the noise with it out. Backfiring has become less frequent as the ECU has worked out the fuel mapping but it still pops now and then, particularly before the engine has reached full temperature. I’ve been sidelined with family stuff for about a month but I’m ready to get back into the swing of things.
Agree the video was fantastic, however the sound comparison with the DB app was done from two totally different distances from the exhausts. Stock was 87 to 90DB, Delkevic was 84DB obviously incorrect.
Installed the same exhaust on my KLR this morning. I love it and the length looks great right now, only thing I'm concerned about is when I install the rear fender elimination kit on the bike then the muffler may look like it is really sticking out too far. Hope not because I've already bought the rear fender kit.
At least you don't have to deal with a carb adjustment, like you need to do on the Gen1 and Gen2 bikes when you change exhausts. Some say the carb is easy to get on and off, I thought it was a pain myself. I upgraded the jets at the time I swapped out my exhaust. The previous owner had put on a Big Gun exhaust, which is the loudest thing you've ever heard in your life and i swapped it out for a Lexx lol. Now you just need to get rid of those stock tires, trash those rubber foot pegs, get a metal skidplate and you're ready to go almost anywhere.
I’m working my way through those other upgrades. The stock tires are nearly worn out already, with only a little more than 2000 miles on the clock. They are the next thing to go. Any suggestions?
@@SuburbanPathfinder Really depends on how you plan on riding. If you're looking at 60/40 pavement/dirt, the Kenda 270 or Shinko 700 tires are very good. If you're looking for mainly off-road, the Shinko 804 / 805 Big Block or Tusk D-Sport tires are beefy enough for pretty much anything, but they're not so great on the street. I have the Kenda 270s myself.
@@cybrnathan thanks much! I’m thinking 60/40 or maybe even a 70/30. I’ve mostly been keeping it on the road so far. Did an about 350 mile road trip last weekend with only a little bit of gravel road. I’ve got some real adventures planned but I’ll probably be ready for another set by then.
Howdy, a few questions of curiosity.. how's the Delkevic holding up? and , did you get the spark arrester baffle? Have you given any thought to removing the snorkel?
@@motorradmike To me it does not look much longer than the can in this video. It is louder though not quite as loud as the DELKEVIC 14 in the video. I think that Delkevic may offer a quieter baffle for the 18 if it is too loud for you. You might want to check before ordering. The KLR is pretty fugly to begin with so the can length ain't a deal breaker! It does not appear to be THAT much longer than the 14. Superb quality and perfect fit just like on my Versys 1000.
My stock Gen 1 KLR 650 sounds like a large lawnmower.....Aftermarket exhausts sound like a HUGE lawnmower.......When my stock muffler rusts away, I will have to worry about it.....Until then, why worry? A stock muffler should be cheap since people are replacing them.
The louder the better.loud pipes save lives after all.saved mine a few times when people cut over into my lane before I could hit the horn button.does it need repacking? that would be a helpful little piece of info.
certain mental conditions. u must be an architectural engineer. lol. great videos like this one can only be made by people with certain mental conditions. again, lol. so the 14" delkevic is the one I will put on. my son has the 18" delkevic. stix out way too far. thanx for the great vid!
put the 14" del on. sounds really really good and I'm not getting as much popping as I thought. beautiful unit, the welds are perfect, and the weight savings is unbelievable.
@@1219magnum I bought a Delkevic slip on and installed it on my Kaw Versys 1000. I was amazed by the quality and precise fit of the pipe. I had not expected perfection but perfection is what I got and all for a great price. I'm buying a 14" for my Gen III KLR!
I was eyeballing one of those 1000 Versys myself. Awesome way to tour. If I do get one, I'll definitely slap a Delk on it. Thank u sir! Ride safe! Keep on keepin' on!
@@1219magnum It is only slightly louder than stock. The Cat does most of the sound reduction. It does sound cool when you let off the throttle though. LIghtweight!!
@@SuburbanPathfinder OK, thanks, I really like that pipe but I know with my luck I will get caught without a spark arrester. Are you still happy with the exhaust?
@@SuburbanPathfinder I bet. I may throw em back on. Not too sure yet. I definately want that exhaust though. Mainly for weight reduction. Not thar I really need to worry about it. I came off of a cruiser/touring bike. This bike seems very, very light to me.
