I updated bios before replacing cpu and had no problems.

My last Desktop built was back in mid 2018 where, I bought part by part used except the GPU... I went for a i7 7700, 16GB dual 2400Mhz 8*8, Asrock H110M/DGS mobo, 1T Crucial SATA SSD, 550 Watts AVF PSU, Fenvi Bluetooth/Wifi card & a RX580 8GB Nitro+ inside an old "BIGBOY" cooler master case under $400 or MYR1820 before the scalping pandemic... Some parts came together in a bundle where I hit jackpot... Sold the PC in the late 2021 for $500 or MYR2360 & went mobile to these day... Not as adventurous as building a desktop but hey, at least it's portable & cheaper too than desktop setup nowadays... It's just my opinion anyways, so Cheers! 🍻

Would there be any worthwhile difference in upgrading the CPU from a i7 4770 to 4790 for gaming?

Nice job bro.. but about the installation of the ssd and hdd.. you could swap the drive places and use the first sata extension.. or you could just route the extension sata cable under the ssd or between the drives.. I do it all the time when doing pc repairs or building rigs.. sometimes you have no choice bcs of the very tight space.

i have same pc. if you use the stock 300 watt psu, max gpu to use without upgrading psu is 125 watts. so a 1660ti 1660super will work with a dual sata to pci e power connector. dual to avoid risk of anything burning lol.
