Why risk damaging the laptop with such an extensive dis-assembly? --- I found much easier way, just remove the main battery, the lower covers and the keyboard then remove the side panel underneath, the one that covers the fan and the radiator. With the laptop closed, bottom up, and the hinges toward you, the panel I refer to is on your left. Just remove the obvious 4 screws that hold it on, then pry off with fingernails, old credit card, or plastic pry instrument. Once the panel is removed, the cmos battery plug, with three wires, red, white and black will be visible. The cmos battery is tucked under the light grey laptop body shell, immediately an inch or so to the left of the memory, (with hinge facing you). Pull it out gently, it's usually stuck in there with a small square of two sided tape. Next unplug the red white and black wired tiny plug, and it's out.------ Replace the battery, then on reassembly, be careful putting the screws back in, differentiating between short and long screws and matching shallow and deep locations where the scews go.

hello, do you think that by removing the original from the pc, you can open the black rubber cover (by cutting it)? and put a cr2032 3v taking advantage of cables and connector, will it work well? . or it may not be a normal battery holder, last case I'll look for the original, but I'll try not to disassemble ALL the pc haha...with google translator thank you very much, Spain

It´s not necessary to do this disassemble to access to CMOS battery. You can replace the CMOS battery when you remove the first right side.

Yes, I just tried it and I could remove the CMOS RTC battery right then. Yes, everything after 1:38 is unnecessary.

No need to take motherboard out! See 3-pin connector on your right (red, white, black wires). Access from bottom.

Remove battery, remove lower cover, remove right hand cover, fetch out bios battery, replace bios battery, replace replace covers and main battery, DONE. 12 minutes first time.

All this is not necessary. Pull off the bottom cover and fan cover. Pull the red,black,white wires attached to the CMOS battery. It will slip out. Takes 5 minutes. Also, it's not a special battery. The negitive battery white and black wire are tied together. Red is positive.

the cmos battery is 2pin or 3pin?

Wow. Very long winded. Just give it a slight tug and it should come free once the 'cpu cover' is removed.

Are you saying you don't have to tear the whole thing apart to change this battery???
@miltc484
@miltc484 4 года назад
@@redhatpat9387 Actually if you look at the video at 1:40 - 1:43 you will see the cmos battery connection just to the right of the CPU/HeatSink. It's the connection that has the Red/White/Black cable. Notice that this was the last thing removed in this video. But you can actually unplug it and pull it out as Glenn Parnell stated.

@@redhatpat9387 yep that's what he's saying!!!
@miltc484
@miltc484 4 года назад
One more thing. If you pull that CPU/HeatSink you better have some thermal paste to put on it before you reattach it. I'd hate to put this thing back together and it fails to boot up because of a CPU/Heatsink issue.

Nice video though. It gives a lot of insight on completely taking the laptop apart.
