In this video we will take a better look at the Dell OptiPlex 5090 SFF. During the video, I will do a full teardown and re-assembly of the machine. Once re-assembled, I will perform a series of benchmarks in order to test the performance of this PC. The model I have is equipped with a Core i5 10500, 8GB of DDR4 and a 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD.

Very informative video that gave me more insight about my 5090 i7-10700 SFF. Question: How much more could I upgrade the CPU on the 5090 i7-10700 SFF.

Picked up one of these machines from my e waste center, this is honestly a very nice machine imo. Idk why they threw it out when it seemed to have no issues. It has an i5-10505, 8 gb ddr4, and 256 gb nvme.

Would be a waste if that gets recycled honestly. Unfortunately a lot of business are doing this every 3-4-5 years with all their machines while in a lot of cases they could still be used (especially for simple office tasks) or at least repurposed.

@@jensdbe yeah, my optiplex 5090 is a very capable machine for so many office tasks. i can throw in a low profile rx 6400 in that machine and it could be used for e sports. i think even a 4th gen i5 is good for 2024, or even an old xeon.

What gpu can you pair it with?
@jensdbe

A GTX1650 or RX6400 are both a good choice to my idea. Just make sure that you have the low profile variant and that it does not require external power (which is the case for example for an OC-variant or similar).

RTX A2000 is the best option for this machine.

I just got a 7090 SFF and it came with a Gen 3 NVME drive and I want to drop in a Gen 4, but none of the support articles from their website, manuals and any information online points to it supporting Gen 4, with or without an 11th gen cpu. My cpu is currently the i5-10500 65w version and I want to upgrade to the 11th gen so I can use 3200mhz ram as it's cheaper, but I might have to stick with what I got and just swap out the stock 8gb of ram with 2666mhz since there is no point upgrading my cpu if I can't ever get a Gen 4 NVME drive to work only Gen 3. Unfortunate. I have 2 NVME drives in my Lenovo P350 SFF, 1 is Gen 4 and other Gen 3, they get 6800/3600 reads respectively.

I don't see why you couldn't do that. The Gen 4 drive will most likely be limited by the Gen 3 slot, so you won't get Gen 4 speeds but it should still work.

@@jahmeregill6243 yeah I did just that. Put in a WD black sn850x gen 4 and it's half the advertised speeds. Put in 3200mhz ram too. The system is running great, but later I'll drop in a 11th gen to take advantage of the buffs.

Possible to add wi fi to these small computers ?
@jensdbe
@jensdbe Месяц назад
Sure, the newer ones have an M.2 slot on the motherboard for wifi but the easiest and cheapest is probably to install a low profile PCIe wifi adapter.

How can I change the password of the user because I forgot my password.
@jensdbe

If you don't have another admin-user which you can use, there is a method by replacing utilman.exe with cmd.exe using the recovery options. If you Google these keywords, you should find what you need. I might do a video on that in the future :)

The reason I choose Lenovo or HP Old PC because they can remove the IO panel , this one, nah.

Putting a different board in any SFF is often a bit of a mess, but I understand what you mean.
