I got a really good deal at MicroCenter on a Micro Form Factor Dell Optiplex 7060 came with a 8th Gen i5 which is pretty good but I need a i7. This video shows how to upgrade the processor.
I had plans to get the same system to do the same upgrade but I found a great deal on ebay that already had the cpu and 32GB of ram.... Also Awesome Video
I picked up an Optiplex 7050 (i5-6500T) for only $60. No PSU, no caddy, no drives. But I ordered the PSU and caddy separately, and still came in under $100 for the whole thing. And when i installed Windows (I was going to do it just to flash the BIOS), it still had the registration, so not a bad deal. I've used Dell all-in-ones with the 6700T chip, and they're quite usable. So I just ordered a 7700T. Should make a nice upgrade to my old Optiplex.
@@charleeeugene yes it does. I have a WD 1TB NVMe stick in there now. There's also another M.2 slot for Wi-Fi, and my plan was to use it for a second Ethernet port, and use the 7050 as a firewall. But since it has a working Windows 10 license, I'm keeping it as a Windows 10 test environment. IMO the Skylake CPU platform currently has the best bang for the buck. I'm using a HP Z4 G4 workstation with a Skylake Xeon CPU in it, and it does so well with video transcoding, I haven't bothered to assemble its 13th gen. replacement.
Hello Dear Charlee, Obviously, you rock, man! I really appreciate your tutorial, and you have inspired me to upgrade my processor from the i5 to the i7 to have more power on my Optiplex 7060 micro. I'm afraid of not making the right choice regarding the processor. Which generation of the i7 will be compatible with my computer, the 9th or 10th (or only the 8th), which version too k or t...? Can you advise me on that point with exact references of i7 pocessors? FYI: I have the last version of the bios, updated by the 24/04/2024. with same mother card than yours Also, should I change the fan, or would my current 5V 1A fan, producing 5W, be sufficient for the new i7 processor? Thank you, man. I appreciate it. Regards, ML
I would get the same generation as the i5 just to be safe. People have stated that you can use different processors but didn't want to deal with any inconveniences. I7-8700T is the way to go.
yo man i had optiplex 3050 with i3 7310T processor,i wanna upgrade it soon so any recomendation of processor sir ,atleast i can playing some game on my dekstop.thank u
Hello Sir. I have the 3090 and plan on upgrading it. Mine has a i5 10500 T 8GB Ram and a 256GB M.2 2230 SSD in it. These little Machines are great for Desktop or Docker use. So thanks for sharing and keep up the good work! Have a good one and stay safe. greetings from Germany
fyi - The 8500T has a base frequency of 2.10 GHz while the 8500 non-T has a base frequency of 3.00 GHz. Processing and power usage is proportional to chip frequency.
