Question, you are upgrading the video card to a more powerful video card, so, don't you then also have to upgrade the PSU because of the power requirements of the new graphics card ? I know in your vid. you said a 350 watt psu will do, but i wasnt sure when upgrading the graphics card. Thanks.
I've never seen someone apply thermal paste like that. Usually people put a grain of rice sized dot on the cpu, then the cooler spreads the thermal compound when it is placed on the cpu and tightened.
okay, just making sure I wasn't the only one that used a different method. Maybe he's been doing this for a while and/or it's one of those things that's just there and doesn't matter much like torqueing a spark plug.
I have the same pc but i'm running 8 gigs ram pc6400 and the Q6700 processor but the thing is i havent got a good GPU yet, the mother board dont give me the room to install a dual slot kind, the GTX 650 TI Boost i have needs two slots to allow the video output to come out of the back of the case, i need a good single slot GPU to fit this build,,,,and not too long or it will hit the CPU heat-sink assembly :/

Well the thing is my dad gave me this kinda old looking guy pc so im thinking if I could chance or let say modified it to a "micro atx mobo" to make it gaming pc do u think its possible? I’m using a q6700 which is slightly faster than the q6600. I suggest using that cpu. They can be found for around $20-25. I also suggest putting in a GeForce GT 1030 graphics card.

did you need to add a fan after you installed the q6700, and did you need to upgrade the PSU after you installed the gt 1030 , because of the build up of more heat ? Thanks. Did you update the motherboard bios before you installed the q6700 ?
no I used the same fan that came with it and I left the PSU. I barly noticed a difference in heat even with the 1030 overclocked. I did update the bios before installing the q6700
Thank you. I have a 745 myself, and may upgrade the processor to q6700, I have read elsewhere where extra heat might of been a problem, but it seems it works fine for you. I may also upgrade to a better graphics card then the old ati pro x1300 256 mb ram in there now, too, I was concerned about the PSU not being strong enough, but thanks for your comment to help me out.
Just download the bios update from the dell site.. then just follow the prompts, and install the bios update, When you restart your computer, you should see the bios update. Some would say you shouldn't install a bios update, unless its absolute necessary. Are you sure you need to? After the bios update on my 745, it wouldn't boot. Unfortunately no because even though the q9550 is socket LGA775, the motherboard in the optiplex 745 only supports a FSB (front side bus) of 1066Mhz and the q9550 requires an FSB of 1333Mhz
