Ive been using a optiplex 745 which I upgraded with a core 2 quad q6600 and a hd 7450 for the last 3 years. Its the computer thats always had my back. I originally got it for free!
@@Theutmostgeek It's important to check the HP chipset to see if it will support a Xeon. On some motherboards you may still have to mod the bios even if the chipset is correct. 775 Dells are very good in that respect. Mod the Xeon and you're good to go. Mine is a Dell 560 with a Xeon 5420, 8GB of ram, 2GB graphics card and it's amazing nippy.
@@Theutmostgeek According to Dell specifications for that mobo you can fit an intel Core 2 Quad Q9650/3.00GHz,12M,1333FSB. That will give maximum performance. Bring the memory up to 8GB and if you've got enough cash, fit a SSD too. Don't go heavy on the OS by running Windows 10. Pick a Linux distro. Distrowatch.com for more info on that. If you are new to Linux. I'd recommend Linux Mint. Then install Virtualbox to run any OS or server you like virtually. Have fun with your new PC and remember it's not what you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.
Thank you man i have the same and i needed to upgrade ♥️♥️🙏 Edit : after 2 years i finally got a new pc with ryzen 5500 Cpu and rx 5600xt 6gb Gpu and still having the same old pc, i gave it to my brother
sorry a little bit late but. i just bought 2gigs to make it 8 but it says only 6 gigs are installed. i tried removing one and put the new one on other slot then it says there's only 4 now, bios detects it and it says is on the slot but it just doesn't add up the 2 gigs cpu z reads it and even shows the specs on that ram. my os is 64 bits. i'm honestly really confused did i skipped something? here's hoping you could help me.
@@keimakatsuragi7149 did you make sure that the ram sticks are pair correctly? There may be an issue with how your ram is arranged... You want your ram pairs arranged like 1212 across and not 1122 (1s being the first pair of ram and 2s being the second pair). Hope this helps! If you have any questions, feel free to send me a pm on social media, which is in my bio
@@pq3667 It came with a Core 2 Duo E6300, I want to upgrade but it's a small form factor unit with the little PSU, I'm going to try and test an E8600 in it at some point as it's another 65W part, I suspect something like the Q9550S or a Q9505S would also work in it. There's plenty of Q9950 about but obviously they aren't 65W and I'm suspicious that the Q9550S's on ebay are even real ones.
finally someone who modifies a pc to be able to work comfortably, I would use it for work and my rest periods listen to music watch videos and play retro games only the essential to be happy...
Yeah, this PC is plenty of power for many people out there. Just the over consumerism taught by all the big companies (and also influencers!) suggest that you always need the latest stuff.
If you go to start, then type CMD in the command prompt you type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity then press enter it will tell you the maximum memory the pc will take. ( when you type the Command make sure you have one space between each word. You will find the maximum capacity is 8GB so 4 x 2 GB sticks.
The maximum capacity is actually 16 GB, but you can only get that capacity if you use low density 4GB DDR2 modules, which are very expensive nowadays (more expensive than DDR4 RAM) and hard to find.
Mine is dell 755 with a q9400 6gb ram at 667 mhz psu 300w and a gt730 2gb gddr5 oc love these type of builds because their cheap and i just have a lot of fun trying to find used parts

@@warrenmartensen7234 u won't be able to game with these specs atleast buy a intel core 2 quad 9000 series and add more ram atleast 6gb or 8gb if possible and the gt730 2gddr5 is enough for me so if ur not gonna play demanding games then yes it's good
This one looks just like my Optiplex 780 I got left. I've got a Q6600 and a 1050Ti for it and it still runs great with 4GB DDR3 RAM clocked at 1333MHz.
You should not only look for bad Capacitors on the motherboard, but also the power supply, I found a bad one in mine since those work the hardest by filtering out ripple from the switching supply. With a supermarket soldering iron, some solder, desoldering pump or desoldering braid you can easily remove them and replace them. Even good quality ones are cheap, maybe a few scents. Just remember to observe values in uf and Volts. Bad Caps in a power supply will kill a computer quickly since it's allowing a lot of voltage ripple to pass through and stress motherboard components beyond specifications. Also another reason you should not cheap out on a PSU.
I am also in the process of upgrading my Optiplex 775 with a Xeon E5472 processor $20, 4x2GB PC2 8500 $15 and a Radeon RX580 8GB $120 from Aliexpress :)
My brother, I have a device of the same size, but it is an Optiplex 780. Do you accept the development and installation of the graphics card, processor, and RAM up to 8 GB? Please answer me.
I have a similar desktop a Dell Optiplex 760, I decided upgrade it with a Q9650, 8 GB RAM DDR2 -PC2-6400u (SKHynix)an gt 710 2 gb DDR3 and works very well even on Windows 10. Finally I decided to replace PSU for a better one.. now that computer is a dedicated Linux server.
Brother ihave a optiplex gx520 its semelar to your unit but its older and it does not have a pcie 16x slot do you think ican use a riser 1x to 16x or is it not worth it?
Hi, great video! I have a question tho, would ssd sata 3 be compatible with this motherboard, also any stronger cpu's and gpu's compatible that you would recommend? Thank you in advance! And keep up the great work (:
The board is only Sata 2, so your sata 3 ssd will only run on sata 2 speed. About GPU, you could basically put any in you want as long as your power supply can handle it. For CPUs, the best core 2 quads could maybe still work, but I don't know that myself.
mine has been upgraded to a Q6600, 8gb DDR2, SSD and nVidia 750Ti. Plays world of tanks just fine! Im running windows 10 but there are two drivers - seial port and simple com port that windows cant find and Dell dont provide for W10. This doesnt affect the pc working however. i mean, who uses serial ports anyway?
nice to see this video I have the dell optiplex 755 with core 2 duo e6550 and 6gb ram 800 mhz gt 1030 bios version A22 and I want to update the cpu to core 2 quad q9550 so will it run or to stay with core 2 quad q9400 and what is psu watt? like you please help me
Nice video. I bought Optiplex 755 MT, and I'm planning to upgrade that with Core 2 Quad Q6600 with BSEL Mod, 8 GB of RAM and GTX 750 OC with 2 GB of VRAM. What do you think? And I wonder if it's possible to replace original power supply with a little bit better standard ATX one...
Oh, that's really nice. What do you think about the cooler on the CPU? On my older PC with stock cooler temperatures were pretty high, I cannot even use Core 2 Quad because it was suddenly switching off right after boot because of overheating...
The cooler on the optiplex surprised me; first I thought it wouldn’t cool it nicely but it did pretty good. The Core2Quad never ran hot. This wind tunnel design works pretty good
Really nice video. I have the 755 sff and have tried to upgrade the CPU to the Quad 8400. According to many sources it should work but i get an orange light constantly on and pc won't boot. Power Supply works fine with the original pentium. CPU works fine in the 780 sff. An ideas how to fix this?? cheers
I upgraded it, but unfortunately after BSEL Mod with ducktape it started do crashes with bluescreens of death... I don't know if it's because of RAM (I used 667 MHz, not 800 for now.) or maybe it's something wrong with voltage... I don't know. Do you think I should try overclocking with SetFSB software? Is it safe? What about temperatures? For now in stress it's staying max at 50 degrees.
You can also use Linux Mint as your system its very similar to Win & free. Since win 11 needs certain requirements now to download it. I use it on an old laptop that was terrible with win.
thank you I have a dell 755.you went step by step. and you said parts a number thank you great video. PS make video on dell upgreads. like dell 380 and up
Hello, Thanks for your video. I have 2 technical information to ask you please: With an optiplex MT 780 mini tower, To upgrade an e7500 duo core to a q8300 quad core going to q9650 depending on the availability of available second-hand processors. Hard to find.... I have original 4gb ddr3 1066, i want to upgrade to 8gb ddr3 1333 I will add an NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 basic 2gb ram integrated graphics card. There was no card. I am going to change 7200trs / min HDD disk against a 256 GB SSD to gain speed and lower consumption. With this configuration, is it necessary or not to change the heat sink placed on the processor? Is the original one sufficient? Will the original 305w power supply be sufficient? Thank you
oh my goodness back to Memory Lane man this was my main grinder for many many years back in the day when Windows 7 announced you could update to Windows 10 I did it on this computer although I had the medium form-factor one not the smallest not the one you have but the medium-sized 755 😎🍻👍
Hi! What with the IDE and AHCI modes for SSD? I did upgrade to SSD but got a problems with checking AHCI mode in BIOS. I had to left IDE mode for it to work. Also i have horizontal case with this model :D About ram - there are 4GB sticks but they maybe not supported by mobo
I'm not sure about that, my only recommendation to solve the issue would be to either reset the BIOS to factory and try again or update it, if there is an update available.
Hi, I'm using a optiplex 745 and I'm not get using a cpu of 45nm, can you help me? I need know, if is possible use the core2 quad of 45nm in my motherboard.
Why didn't you just keep 1 of the hard drives you had in it originally? You swapped a 1 TB HD for a 1 TB HD. Also, I just uploaded a video of Windows for Workgroups 3.11.
Did this processor run without any issues? I want to make the same upgrade as I have found same processor for $10. I already upgraded the ram to 8gb, but need to install SSD an upgrade to 64 bit Windows 10 so I can use the extra ram. Right now limited to 3gb on 32 bit OS. Probably find a similar graphics card too. Using the PC as an emby server.
@@ZzaxyGT personally I used a GTX 750 non slim profile, I had to modify the bracket in order to make it fit but once I did that it works perfectly fine and the temperatures were still good. I did cut a little bit of plastic out of the serial Port because it was blocking it's from going in. If you don't mind modifying its case it will work.
I'm going to build my first gaming pc, and i want to save money using a case i already have, so i want to know if the 755 case is compatible with the ryzen b450m board.
Hi! I Have Optiplex 755MT. After I did upgrade to SSD with clean install Win10, every boot is black screen after Windows logo in boot, I have to hard reset it in order to boot properly..any advice?
Hi, hope you're doing well. I wonder if you can help me out! I've got a Dell Optiplex 755 which I upgraded to 8GB of RAM. I'd like to be able to get that up to 16GB if its possible somehow? The CPU is an Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz. The O/S is Windows 8.1 64bit. I intend to replace the hard drive with an SSD. What upgrades would you suggest for this system? Thanks so much for your advice.
I think you can't go higher than 8 GB RAM on this motherboard because of the DDR2 RAM. SSD upgrade is always a great idea. Also look into upgrading it to any Core2Quad CPU, it will make the system way more modern with the 4 CPU cores.
@@MacintoshMen Hi and thank you. I will definitely upgrade the CPU to a quad core. Just as an aside, the great supercomputers of the world are massive rows of interlocked units forming one huge system. I assume these are connected in series. Is there any mileage to be had by interconnecting two PCs of the same make and spec to double the RAM and computing power?
Make sure its The Mini Tower otherwise with and Small Form Factor or Desktop Tower you need a low profile version. A GTX 1650 is overkill for a dual core or even a quad core. A dual core will definitely choke and constrain data bandwidth to the GPU.A famous youtuber did a video on this with a 380 DT and found not much performance after a 1050ti and they had to upgrade to a Intel Q9550 quad core to make it work properly.
I have a optiplex with a quad core xeon (q9500 equivilant) and 1650 is good but it's going to be CPU limited. On Diablo 3 I had about 60 fps 1080p high but when I switched to a new system with Ryzen 1700 pro (which are 90$ now on Ali) it went up to 120-160 fps. So it will work fine but something like a 750/1050to Rx 550/460 or gt 1030 will get you pretty close to the same performance.
Ideally upgradeable computer I changed used cpu to Q6600 then also used ram to 4pcs x2Gb 800Mhz the maximum support is 8Gb new ssd disc 480Gb and put the new GTX 1050Ti all newest games can be played now! All investments around $245
@@MacintoshMen It's clear I have small GPU 1050Ti for this computer DELL OPTIPLEX 755 MINI TOWER (MT) power supply is enough 75W which are enough from the PCIEx16 slot. But thanks for the advice!
2GB is pretty much the max DDR2 module size you can get, at least normally.. I think that's the official DDR2 max spec at least, but some manufacturers do actually make 4GB sticks that do indeed work on most systems (I think?), but you're gonna pay a very hefty premium for those.. They don't sell those sticks where I live anymore but they used to be pretty close to like a 100€ per stick and sometimes more so it really isn't worth it unless you can find them for cheaper.
I'm running two sticks of 4GB DDR2 in an Asrock mobo because it only has two RAM slots. You wouldn't want to in the Dell because: a) It has four RAM slots, b) 4x2GB sticks are much cheaper and: C) I don't think the Dell supports 4GB sticks in any case.
I am trying to replace that cpu fan on the dell optiplex 755 and I can't see how to get it out of the computer. Can you give me instructions on how to do this or a video? Thanks in advance Julie
@@MacintoshMen I shows how to take out the heat sink , that was easy, then cpu but then the heat sink is put back on and the cpu fan is never removed that I can find. That is where I am stuck. It is right behind the heat sink on the cpu. Any Ideas how to remove it?
I have a dell optiplex 755 also with a q8400 quad, 250hdd, 4 gigs of ram, and an r5 220. I’m looking to upgrade to an ssd, 8 gigs and my graphics card. Is it worth it from the q8400 to the q9400 cpu to upgrade?
Hello can you tell me your motherboard model for example 0gm819,because i have dell optiplex 755 with this motherboard model and i want to know if my motherboard will support core2quad 9400. “Thankyou,,
I have the same one, I have updated it to q9550, I have 8 gb of ram, SSD and 3 HDD my problem is that I do not know which graphics card it supports as maximum and if the power supply is changed, the socket for the graphics card I think it is maximum 25w Does anyone have an answer?
The biggest issue you will have is the fact this is a BTX case, the graphics card is the opposite way up to other cases. This means the back plate of the graphics card must be a single plate not a double plate. I have an nVidia 750Ti graphics card in my 755 and that fits fine. Incidentally changing the power supply is very easy on this pc. I have a 400w in mine.
is it really true?i have a 1155 socket c2q and a lenovo pc that run c2d e8000.my thoughts is that the best upgrade for it is xeon.but i saw your vid.and thinking if it is really possible to swap it processor.my motherboard died so im thinking to buy new motherboard for my c2q processor.bro is it true or not?you just put in the c2q in you dell.
I come to this video because I currently have the Dell Optiplex 960, but something that I have noticed is that the motherboard is upside down compared to current motherboards, so something I also saw is that the Dell Optiplex 755 (which the I have but it is broken) it has the motherboard upside down, but the Dell 960 is very small and I wanted to buy a graphics card, so my question is: Can I use the Dell Optiplex 755 enclosure with a Dell Optiplex 960 motherboard? I leave you my like and my sub so you can listen to me :D
Mine is geeting the 2000-0146 error. Tried to boot it in safemode but still not successful. It seems that i need to replace thr hard drive. Can you tell me what is the compatiblr hard drive for optiplex 755?
I had 8GB in my Dell Optiplex 755 with no issues however whenever I installed RAM on this computer and turned it on I had to turn it off take it out put it back in and then it would work again simple little issues like that but yes it does max out at 8gb and no more
I've got 8GB ram in two 755's and one 760. It's max but no problems other then not installing one stick hard enough, which jumped up and caused the fault beep. Just had to reinsert and worked fine.
Same problem here. The problem is that the PCI E slot only supports 1x and 16x speeds not 4x and 8x. So a x4 or x8 card will default to 1x which constrains graphics bandwidth. There is nothing wrong with your graphics card or its driver. I have a Dell 755 DT so I know. It's called a high DPC latency. PCI -E interrupts are done over the bus and has no dedicated connections so a slow connection will delay interrupts plus the card will interrupt the CPU more to try to get enough data to perform it's tasks.
The best C2Q CPU is the q9650 I use it today with 8 gb of RAM a 860 250 gb SSD and a x600 GPU . And yes I will be getting a new GPU o and by the way I use Windows 7 pro.
Bro please reply please i have an optiplex 755 with core 2 duo e6500 so if i want to upgrade it to core i3 can i do it i mean can i only change the processor please reply
Look into a 771 Xeon mod, you should be able to get a good performance upgrade once you figure out the highest one that will work in your motherboard. 3GHz to 3.4GHz. 4 core, almost has the performance of an i5. (depends on generation)
