Why does Windows get all of that criticism? Apple is the same year after year. The design is praised like it's something they've never seen. They don't need to get radical. XPS is perfect. You want really different, get an HP. This is Dell XPS and it's beautiful.

Ben Watkins - That’s not the point. We need to see that too. He said the lid was rose gold. We wouldn’t know what because it has a white skin on it. I thought that it was an all white laptop and wouldn’t have known it was gold unless he told us. Edit: Actually he does show the gold color later in the vid. Just not when he’s actually talking about the color.

How is this innovation (It won the “Best of Innovation Award” for CES 2018)? Fewer ports, higher cost, a worse screen on the base model. It feels like Dell has taken the form over function route this year (To give Dell credit, it looks amazing and is still better than a Macbook if you don't use Final Cut)

For those who consider xps 13, especially those planning use as student. Xps 13 is looks amazing and function pretty damn good, but there's only thing you have to watch out for which is the heat on this machine gets pretty bad in full usage which is pretty reasonable since you fit so much power into so little size. And heat is biggest enemy to electronics. I own xps 13 9350 for two years and now battery got swelling and keyboard control got burn out due to constant high temperature in the machine. The Fram size of this machine let it shine, but also kill this device pretty quick. So if you planning use this device for more than 3 years without any troubles, go looking for something else.

I have a zenbook and it is still going strong after 3 years of heavy usage. Tis a shame. ASUS is best for longivity. I alwo had a newer ux333 I use for work. It still performs just as good as it was brand new.

So how quiet is it when browsing/ doing office work? Is it silent like the MS Surface Laptop? Generally, fan noise is a pretty important factor these days (esp. when considering the XPS 13) - worth getting into a bit more, I think.

Karti Batura Obviously. Definitely get it. You said light gaming, and the MX150 crushes light games, even plays some AAA Title games. If you need it for school more than games, then yes I advise you get one.

That's what I was thinking too, but the main issue in my mind is that it has a single fan and it is a relatively thin laptop, last I saw , it was for $700 on amazon and the main price I'm paying is for the thinness of the device. I just hope that it doesn't have heating issues. But I am actually really happy to see a laptop with gaming potential that doesn't look like a toy :D

Why are specs stagnating so much? Sure, the 8th generation Intel Core series with quad core CPUs for really small machines is nice and all, but how is it 2018 and the average SSD size for a laptop is still 256gb? How can there still be laptops selling with 4gb of RAM for the base model?

Motiur Muhith I thought I was the only one who was crazy for thinking that HDD's shouldn't be included in modern laptops! Anything over $400 should have an SSD, regular hard drives just SUCK in laptops and there's no point in having an i7 if you're going to be restricted by the slow loading times of an HDD.

50 Dollar in extra production is quite a lot when a company makes 1 million laptops better for the company to offer upgrade to SSD. But HDD aint always that bad some computers with HDD with plenty of cache works almost as good as SSD-laptops with the bonus of larger storage capacity.

I guess you only rely on one computer or you don't attach your computer to a large monitor? If that's the case, I agree with you. Personally, I just prefer 14 inch than 15 inch as a portable choice. I can always hook it up to a bigger screen at home. Btw, I do lots of content creation and also code. But like you, I think 13 inch or anything smaller would be too small already.

denniszenanywhere the XPS 15 has the form factor of a 13-14" laptop thanks to that super thin bezel, so it's a great compromise between portability and screen size.

Thanks for the tip. I think I am the only one I know who buys a laptop based on the keyboard (LOL), so I got a new thinkpad. I tried XPS 15 for a few minutes at a store and liked the screen real estate, but didn't like the keyboard and trackpad (Macs have the best trackpad, although I don't like their keyboard and since I use Linux, it's a no-go for me). Only Thinkpad's keyboard satisfied me--at least the Tmodels and to a slighty lesser degree, X1 Carbon. Question, some people said that the coil whine in XPS 2015 can be too loud. Is that true? The decision to get a thinkpad was also based on cost. Plus, Thinkpads work well with Linux but I miss using Adobe software more, because then I would need to dual boot to use it.

Thanks for the comment. That worries me, what were they thinking? My brand new MacBook Pro has tiny AF up/down arrows forcing me to look elsewhere, but this Dell issue may be just as bad. SMH

Bidhan Phuyal Nah, he completely ignores laptops like the HP Envy 13 for months but uploads the XPS 13 review within a day of it's release... Stupid. The Envy was ridiculously competitive to the 9360 XPS 13. Less so to the new one, but in terms of bang for buck it knocks it out of the park.

davesway To me, what matters most was the 4 lane thunderbolt and better cooling for the CPU. I could care less about it being thinner and lighter than the current XPS, and thr lack of USB-A ports is definitely a downside...

HP's laptops are a POS. My family has had 3, god knows why, and they're just so frustrating and unenjoyable to use. They have horrible cooling systems and loud, yet weak fans. Be prepared to have your CPU shut down due to heat.

From what I think, it is the social media/news that made the news such a big deal, as there are worse vulnerability with less coverage. Don't fret about buying any pc though, it didnt affect AMD processor and other software vendors are patching the problem.

Software patches "fix" (not entirely actually) the problem at the expense of CPU speed. Things will only go back to normal when and if you replace your CPU. It IS a big thing because it is a hardware problem, and not something related to an OS breach or internet scripts. There are two types of malfunction out there, and one of them affects AMD chips as well.

Sorry for some of the misinformation. Meltdown affects arm and intel processor and spectre on arm, intel, and amd. I wanted to make a point to migitate the problem via software patch, which both exploit can be reduced to a minimum. Spectre is harder to exploit so I omitted in previous comment, which I shouldn't, sorry. But I would like to make a point that design flaw will happen; Personally based on the fact mitigation is possible, as a consumer, I wouldn't wait on next generation processor. This is just like when they found wpa2 vulnerability, which website can fix by using https.

Is it good for students ? Main concerns are 1. Battery life. 2. Bright screen to use outdoors. 3. No overheating. 4. Good overall performance.

ravi shankar I would say yes. 1. Battery life is great: around 10hours of light use at 120nits, 7 to 8 if you crank up the screen 2. Bright enough to use outdoors although it’s not the brightest. You won’t have any issue using it outdoors. 3. Yes and no. Gor tech makes it such that even when components run hot you won’t feel it (However pushing hard on cpu can make it reach above 90 C) 4. Very good overall performance for it’s intended use. No discrete gpu means it’s not really a good idea for gamers or designers (I don’t know if video editing is cpu or gpu intensive though) I know I’m answering 4moths later, sorry about that. Hope it still helps!

Dark Psionic To test, i kept it on over night. After 8 hours it still has more than 25% left. It seems ok but the battery estimate does not seem correct. While charging in sleep mode, fan works hard sometimes. Have you noticed something like this?

No regular USB, keyboard is still bad, track-pad too short, expensive AF. I'd rather it was 4:3 instead of 16:9 for obvious reasons, but also to make the track-pad taller and maybe put the speakers above the keyboard facing up. They should also make a 1080p touch-screen model.

I understand why 3:2 would be the most productive ratio but really the machine is a multimedia ultrabook not a workstation. I think the sweet spot is 16:10. I think is a good machine overall, but no USB-A no buy.
