KellonMelon HQ and HK (unlocked HQ) are definitely better, but they tend to be on bigger and more expensive machines. With the new U series, we'll be getting 4 cores on a U series chip, making them nearly as good as the old HQs. Of course, the new HQs will be 6 core, so power users may still want to go with them.

I know that iOS is limited and closed and weak. I get it. But that doesn't apply to macOS. It's not any less capable then windows. Heck, if anything it's probably more capable then windows, considering that it's Unix based.

you said you want it to last a while but according to consumer reports microsoft surface and HP are the least reliable computer brands to buy from i would consider one of these xps 13s but really i dont think you need to spend much money to get a decent college laptop

Austin probably will not reply (he usually does not as far as I know) but I suggest looking for good laptops that have/will come out between now and February of 2018 and maybe wait until the summer of 2018 to make your final purchase decision. and you may be better off asking the same question you posted here to a smaller RU-vid channel to ensure you get a reply. A Chromebook may suit you better unless you need a good file system or want to do some heavy stuff/install other programs not found on android/chrome OS. Chromebooks are meant for more of a "notebook" style of computing and can be used offline, but don't expect much more than basic "office programs" (word, power point, excel, email, drive) and web browsing. These machines almost take care of themselves so they wont really degrade into chaos if you don't like to tidy up your devices from time to time * . The only things that you will have to worry about on a Chromebook or any "Notebook style" laptop is battery life and versatility. Windows laptops that are not meant just for gaming, business, or good looks will suit you better in college if Chromebooks are not what you want. I suggest mid tier laptops (high end laptops may actually be a waste or an annoyance to you in college) or lower tier. I do not mean entry level but there are some good ones, look around for reviews. The Dell Inspiron series is a good place to start, and Dell has never burned me with a bad user experience unlike Lenovo and HP laptops (I'm not biased, all laptops have problems regardless of the company). If you are going to be moving around a lot get a fan-less design, if not then fans are optional. Moving forward I say that the laptop you pick should try to come with at least one USB C port to make sure it stays useful in the future. Other useful but not needed features include: removable batteries (buy an extra if you want full functionality), upgradeable ram and storage options (pop off the back and install yourself), touchscreen (natural to use but may not be used daily), backlit keyboard, Bluetooth. *With most Windows and Mac devices you are going to need to do some "cleaning". Every once in a while (I do this around every two months) emptying the recycle bin, deleting old files and programs no longer needed, and of course physically cleaning the device with a microfiber towel (last step not needed depending on you). Most people complain about their devices getting slow but have never taken the time to do some simple maintenance. I have had my Inspiron since late 2013 (since Windows 8) and it is still going strong, I might upgrade later this year or next year but plan to keep using this at home. It has been 4 years already and I plan to keep using this laptop for at least two more which makes that 6 years of continuous operation if not more.

I'm an undergraduate business student. My choice is narrowed down to the Dell XPS 13 or the Acer Aspire E 15. I'll wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday and until the Acer also gets the Intel 8th gen processor. That should be out in time for the seasonal sales. I'm most likely going to go with the Acer Aspire E 15. Good luck!

Well i've owned my xps 15 for about 2 months now and it's awesome. It's the 4k, and the screen is tight. Plays everything you'd expect it to handle well, stuff like skyrim, dota, etc. I wouldn't go playing divinity or arma on it though. The only issue i've had with it is the sound drivers kinda suck, but once you update it alls well. Also with the thermal shit, just undervolt that bad boy and maybe put some more thermal paste underneath it. But if it's blue screening probs sent it in to be fixed
