Part 1. Standard double pressurized basket with 14g of coffee. Pre-ground from market and fresh ground by Hario Skerton. 3 different adjustments of Hario Part 2. Non pressurized basket + Hario. • Part 2. Non pressurize...
The video I've been waiting for! I got this set up too as it's cheap and I was hoping to get decent results with it. Seems like I was not adjusting my Hario Skerton properly. I ordered a non pressured basket so I'm looking forward to your next video. I hope that I can get some nice espresso at home with the Dedica, the Hario and freshly roasted beans! Thanks for the help on this! Cheers!
This is an excellent video! I have the same setup but I wanted to ask, at the adjustment 3 from the 0 position, how many exact turns did you make? So from adjustment 3, it is 1/3 spin from the 0 position?
Yes! It is 1/3 from 0. But I have to say it is correct just for my beans. This video shows just base adjustments and right direction to adjust in each case. It is not about taste. In each other coffees best taste may be with 13,2g and 38 sec or 42 sec
I used manual volume control to get right ratio in cup. 1cup and 2cup buttons are programmable. And I don’t use the single basket. (Single and double basket need the different grinder adjustments)
This is by far the best video on the Dedica. I happen to have also the same grinder. So the extraction time is near 10 sec, most videos I've seen they say it should be between 20 to 30 sec. That has been impossible for me to get for a 1-2 ratio. So it is Ok to have less time? If I try with finer grain (one notch clockwise), the machine gets blocked.
Sorry for the late answer. You can try another beans, of course espresso roasted. They are very different sometimes. Other way - try to upgrade your grinder. For example in my Hario I replaced the original nut with a standard locknut M8. You can see it in the next video "part 2" Subscribe and check out other videos about Dedica on my channel ru-vid.com
Hi the first shot, you pressed one cup, is it factory setting or you customized the extraction time ? I just bought the machine, when i put 14g of expresso pre-grinded coffee in the double basket, if i press the one cup button, i get 33g or 30ml in 19secondes and when i press the 2 cups button, i get 70g or 60ml in 30sec. And i've no idea if the coffee tastes good cause i dont know what is a good coffee taste but the one cup setting definitly tastes disgusting
So… sorry for long delay. I can say, it isn’t easy. For good taste you need good fresh coffee and good water, non pressurized basket and grinder. Preground coffe can’t give you good taste. And dose buttons are programmable. Push and hold the button until you get volume you want.
Do you recommend the standard fabric settings on the 1- and 2-cup volume? Do you recommend setting the temperature on the highest? Which setting do you use? :)
If you want to use non pressured, you need scale, timer, steel tamper. 1) No. Volume is adjustible setting. For beginning try to use double basket. More coffee - easy adjust the grinder. Than you choose your own portion of coffee ( for example 16g) and grind level, press and hold "double" button until you have 30-38g in cup. 30g or 32g or 42g it depends on taste. Classic espresso ratio is 1:2, but it's not a rule. Also the brewing time can be 25 sec or 32 sec. Machine remember this volume (and maybe brewing time) and make the same next time with some recipe. 2) I really don't know abaut delonghis temperature. What exactly they means than says "low, medium and hight" temperature... I'll try to find an answer.
Why do you use 14g instead of 7g? Does your coffe come out without crema if you use 7g? Btw, nice vídeo! Learn a lot, I just bought my De’Longhi Dedica, and I’m not having good results, my coffee is getting out without a crema.
I use. But in this video (part 1) I showed how it works with standard basket and original temper. Second part shows how to brew with non pressured basket and metallic tamper
So many questions. I cannot get my Dedica to perform the way yours does. FYI I have the JavaPresse Steel Hand Burr Grinder which recommends: Fine (1-3 Clicks) - Espresso, Turkish Medium-Fine (4-6 Clicks) - Moka Pots, Pour Over Brewers, Aeropress 1. Why are you using the double shot basket, but single shot button? 2. Could I use the same ratio for the single shot (7g per shot)? 3. I've read many reviews the recommend you skip tamping for this machine. Have you tried skipping that step? 4. Are you using 14 grams of beans or grind? I really appreciate this video. You should work for the company given their videos just show a perfect shot pouring out, and you actually know what you are doing. Thank you!
Hey, I have a question about the grinder. I am also a delonghi dedica user and want to buy myself a grinder, but I am not willing to spend more than 50€. I have been told by my friends to buy a manuel hand grinder instead of an electric burr grinder such as delonghi kg79. What would you recommend me to do, would you recommend hario skerton? Or should I stick with the pre ground coffee? Thanks in advance!
Hi! I have video on my canal with Comandante C40 handgrinder. It is expensive, more than 200$. But... In China is a grinder looks like comandante with good price. Some 55-65$. I bought one for my dad. He live far from me and I didn’t make any tests by myself. But he sad it is good. And I think you can find some information about this grinder. Timemore C2. Here is metal burrs and "click" adjustments like Comandante. Delonghi KG79 not good. really. Not for espresso. Maybe just for Frenchpress. www.aliexpress.com/item/10000022721998.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.11494e74bO7d0d&algo_pvid=93002283-2da3-4222-8d60-201d2b562e46&algo_expid=93002283-2da3-4222-8d60-201d2b562e46-0&btsid=0b0a556c16112613570038109e7766&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_
@@GreenBeanCoffee Oh thank you! I will look into the Timemore grinder. Other than that, would you recommend the Hario Skerton Plus like the one you used in the video?
Hario Skerton is really nice grinder in my opinion (I am using it myself as well). It is consistent too. Very good value for the price. Only down side is it is being manual and changing the grind size takes too much effort. I don't recommend electrical grinder, unless you will buy something on the high end (which will be very expensive). But the advantages of the electrical grinders are: They are quick and really easy to change grind size setting with a knob.
Hey, I have a question about the filter. I got a dedica 695 for christmas and my filters have some kind of rubber black ring on the inside, but I can see yours doesn't have it. Because of that I can hardly fill up to 14g of ground coffee. Did you remove the one on yours, or is it some kind of annoying upgrade on the 695?? Thank-you
Hi! The standard Dedicas basket has double bottom: upper has many holes, lower - just one. It system makes pressure in brewing chamber. In your basket the upper bottom can be removed for the cleaning. The my one is solid and I can just rinse it.
@@GreenBeanCoffee ah yes, I got myself a bottomless portafilter like on your second video. But like you, I'm struggling with the hario skerton grinder... It's okay to use it when I make coffee with my chemex, but for espresso, it's just impossible. At setting 3 or 4 it's always too fine, and water doesn't even come out 😅 I guess I'll stick to ground coffee from stores until I can buy a better one..
Great Video. I tried the same with Hario Skerton Pro and 100% arabica, could not find the right adjustment because everytime the machine got blocked. Any tips for me? Thx in advance
Hi! 100% arabica. It does not mean anything, except that in a pack of grains of the same type. I have a lot of coffee packs with 100% arabica. They don’t make the same in cup. Also blend arabica and robusta used often in the coffee world. For good result you need freshly roasted beans for espresso, scale and grinder. On the Hario pro I heard about 4 or 5 clicks. This grinder doesn't have a fine adjustment. So... you can try to change the dose. A few beans more or less.
Hey, I've got a hario plus grinder and have noticed that at setting of 5 clicks the flow is faster and at 4 its really slow. Is there any way to correct it? Am I doing something wrong?
Hi! I don't think you do something wrong. Hario plus has no very fine adjustment. But you can try to change the dose. For example less 1-3 beans from your standard dose with 4 clicks. Or 1-3 beans more with 5 clicks
You must understand that it’s not a perfect recipe. I just sowed it’s possible. And this model of Hario is the cheapest. I use electronic grinder with flat burrs. If you want handgrinder, try to find some with metal burrs. coffeechronicler.com/gear/grinders/manual/best-manual-coffee-grinder/
Green Bean Coffee ok but do you think it’s better to buy this grinder or buy fresh ground coffee every time? Assuming this grinder is the most I can get.
@@GreenBeanCoffee I'm the only one who drinks coffee in the house and drink max. 2 cups a day, so hand grinder is fine. But there are so many :-). I thought about the timemore c2 but read online it wasn't good for espresso..
Hi! It is not a rule, just recommendation. Sometimes it can be 38s or more. It depends on taste. 2:09 - 19s with pre-ground coffee. 8:41 - about 25s with Hario. But much more interesting with non pressurized basket ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ncCuMkhDXWg.html
@@GreenBeanCoffee Do you count the pre infusion time as total shot time? Im having a good crema but coffee is coming out sour with my Dedica. Around 14s without pre-infusion
I think it is under-extracted. Under-extracted Coffee Cast your mind to a shot of espresso that was far too short; a ristretto of a typical Specialty espresso roast. It's sour, lacking sweetness, weirdly salty and has a disappointingly quick finish. These four things are the most obvious indicators of under-extraction.
I stopped using it. This grinder is very inaccurate for espresso. Try to find timemore chestnut c2. It’s very close to Comandante, but not so expensive
