On United Airlines, I have been told to put away my phone before. It was no big deal, I just acted like I was going to turn it off and the FA walked away. Now, I just start recording once I see that the FA's have taken their seat. If you do get "caught," all they can do is tell you to turn it off. I use airplane mode while filming, yes.
