ORIGINAL NETFLIX SERIE Demeter was frustrated when her daughter Persephone chose Hades and the underworld over her. #Hades #BloodofZeus #Netflix #Demeter #Persephone
I can tell from the way Demeter grabs her, that she’s a possessive helicopter parent. She refuses to acknowledge that her daughter is a grown woman and only thinks with the mindset, “she belongs to me”. If she ever knew what Ares was about to do to her……
Exactly. Demeter is a helicopter parent to the extreme and I don't know why she was even okay with Ares. She should've known how he is at least in this interpretation where he's a raging bull ready to lock horns with anyone who sets him off.
Definitely spot on.👌🏾👌🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Demeter is like that parent who is constantly by your side all the way into adulthood, never letting you grow or learn anything new. She also can't stand it when her child isn't under her complete control, like in this scene when Persephone was trying to tell her all she'd learned while being in the Underworld and when she said that she'd chosen who she wanted to marry. I mean don't get me wrong, I know that Demeter's intentions are mostly coming from a good place, but the way she goes about it is so messed up and causes more pain than good.
@@MinhNguyen-pk9qk Yep. She was heartbroken at first, but she came to understand and accept that this was the way things were now. Also, in the original story, it was Hades's idea for Persephone to spend half of the year with him and the other half with Demeter.

Its worse for Demeter, when she knows Persephone has children and is indifferent about the pain she causes them when she has to leave them; and is still bitter about Persephone being happy she married Hades.
For that reason, i think that Demeter is even worse than Hera, because in defense of the former Queen of Olympus, Hera become a piece of work only because Zeus was constantly cheating her, breaking her heart all the time, turning Hera in a bitter, paranoid and vengeful goddess. Even, during the Season 2, Hera showed a more wiser, merciful and selfless side, implying that she used to has this personality, prior to be cheated by Zeus, showing that Hera was a more considerated and caring goddess in the past. Unlike Demeter, who was an awful goddess since the beginning, to be too much possessive and controller with her daughter Persephone, to the point of forces her some suitors that Persephone didn't want. Adding that while Hera generally limits to harm only who are involved with the cheating of Zeus, Demeter hasn't qualms in put in jeopardize innocent bystanders from her personal issues, only to fulfill her shenanigans; like threat with a permanent winter that would leads to famine to the mortals if Persephone wasn't returned, or unleashes a plague to weakens the gods, disgarding the genocide against the mortals, making Demeter worse than Hera if you analyzes it.
@@The_Memorial Still, in Blood of Zeus, Demeter tried to forces Persephone some suitors, among them, Ares, who showed be an abusive man that doesn't treat Persephone with respect. Showing that Demeter is a too possesive and control freak mother, that cannot simply respect that Persephone takes her own decisions, making her a kind of abusive mother if you analyzes it.
DEMETER: You are a flower. Without sunlight you will wither and die. . . Also DEMETER: proceeds to have EVERY PLANT wither and die every other 6 months
Yeah, Persephone, in reality, has *nothing* to do with Spring or Flowers as popular media likes to portray. She truly is the Goddess of the Underworld.
@@pedrourbano501 I find the fertility thing funny for Persephone because she doesn't have kids of her own. She's not a virgin like Athena and Artemis, but she's child-free. Of course, there's stories where she helps raise other kids (even Dionysus in some), but that's more volunteer fostering
I understand that Demeter just wants to protect her daughter, and considering how Despina (Persephone's sister) came into the world I don't blame her, but she needs to understand that Persephone isn't a weak, naive little girl anymore who needs constant supervision and protection. She's a grown woman capable of making her own choices and falling in love with whomever she chooses. And to be honest, out of all those suitors whom she handpicked herself for her daughter, Hades is more mature, intelligent and honest than all of them combined. I mean, Ares, after having more than a few drinks I'm sure, had just tried to assault her in her own garden. Gods only know what would've happened if Hades hadn't shown up and kicked his *ss when he did. Is it really that hard for her to not have her daughter under her control?? She legit forces her to leave her loving husband and two beautiful children for six months of the year at the end of each winter, tearing apart her family thereby hurting Persephone in the process. I doubt Demeter's even seen her grandchildren, let alone spent time with them.
I get they did this for the story but I don’t like that they made ares attempt to SA Persephone, from what I’ve read Ares in the myth doesn’t do stuff like that to women in fact out of all the gods he’s one of the gods who’d genuinely protect women, the only downside of Ares is he ready for a fight always.
@@brainflash1 We don't know exactly why he gave her the fruit (aka the pomegranate) because the record is incomplete due to wear, tear and destruction over time. We assume it was to do this, but when you look at the whole surviving stories of Hades and Persephone, we see a couple that was the *most functional* of the pantheon. No seriously. Hades and Persephone as a couple are *functional* They don't fight, Hades doesn't cheat on her, he protects her from a Greek Hero who wanted to kidnap her, he never pressured her to have kids, she's clearly happy being a Queen...it's why the "kidnapping" marriage myth is looked upon as something that was "part of the times" rather than anything truly malicious. If anything the reason that kidnapping happened was because of Zeus
@@carlosmuller382nope the ancient myths with Hades she was very much kidnapped and imprisoned. “Hermes did not disobey, but straightaway he headed down beneath the depths of the earth, rushing full speed, leaving behind the abode of Olympus. And he found the Lord inside his palace, seated on a funeral couch, along with his duly acquired bedmate, the one who was much under duress, yearning for her mother, and suffering from the unbearable things inflicted on her by the will of the blessed ones.” Persephone also tells Demeter she was taken against heed will and cries during the abduction. In the myth by Persephone’s own account too she was not happy at all with what happened. No matter the versions ancient myths really did have her either not consent or didn’t mention it because at the time a woman’s consent wasn’t really a big deal especially if the father gave the man permission.
I know that everybody is rooting For Persephone and Hades, I do it too. But just running away with a lover without giving more explanations was a call to troubles.
From all we are shown in the series, there's no way in hell that Demeter would have accepted this match. Demeter was actually selecting the suitors for Persephone and shows nothing but contempt for Hades. Even when they are "allies" she tries to blame her own crimes on Hades in order to drive a wedge between him and Persephone. Persephone eloped for a reason
Yes, the eloping at first was a bit too sudden, but Persephone told Demeter fair and square that Hades saved her, that he did not hurt her in any way and that she chose him willingly as a suitor, and yet Demeter still refused to listen. Eating the pomengranade was another reckless move, but I still believe Demeter unintentionally pushed Persephone to do it, or that at least she was part of the reason, because she still treats her like she is a little girl who does not understand what is best for her when Persephone is an adult, a goddess, who knows what she wants
To be fair, based on how they characterise Demeter here, there's no way in hell she would agree. Hell, even in the myth of Persephone's "kidnapping" every time she leaves Demeter throws a fit and causes Winter. She KNOWS where she is and will eventually come back but still tortures humanity in her most well know myth for it.
She tried to tell her before it got to that point, Demeter wouldn’t listen! But then, again, after everything we were shown of the series, I doubt she would’ve listened regardless. Hell Demeter was selecting her daughter suitors without even asking her, and I doubt she would have bothered to hear that one of them being Aries actually tried to rape her!!! Persephone is now a grown woman who can make her own decisions, Demeter Just refuses to see her as one~~ Hell in the myth, she was raped by Poseidon and had another child Despoina which she abandoned! which frankly on a sidenote worked as a dynamic reference for the tangled series between Cassandra and Rapunzel. Rapunzel is the Sundrop ☀️, Cassandra is the moon 🌙, winter ❄️ and spring 🌸~~ you see where I’m going with this. RU-vidr Han Solo even made a video about it.
In the myths Demeter was heroically trying to reunite with her kidnapped daughter was taken against her consent and imprisoned by Hades. It sucks how she being victimized by her brothers in the myths then get hated on. Like people trash non her for not taking care of two kids she had due to being raped when she was traumatized.

It would be interesting to see one version of the story, where demeter instead of being completely against the marriage, she just is very lonely without her daughter, and the reason everything is snowy, is because the meter is in the Underworld visiting her daughter playing grandmother
I feel like the moment when Demeter is pulling her, despite Persephone holding Hades's hand, and while he curls his fingers to try and keep contact as long as possible because he doesn't want to lose her, he still lets her go so. damn. easily. rather than risk hurting her...says so much in less than thirty seconds.
Blood of Zeus’ and Lore Olympus’ seem pretty damn similar when it came to them being overbearing. But in LO, you get more backstory on why Demeter acts the way she did. In the myth by Persephone’s own account too she was not happy at all with what happened. Persephone even admits to being taken against her will. Demeter is protective but not overly protective. At that time a mother had to be protective.
It's touching how in the original myths, Persephone doesn't resent her mother and Demeter's trauma causes her to rightfully protect her daughter from the same fate that she suffered, given how Ancient Greece was. But all everyone does in modern retellings is turn Demeter into an evil helicopter parent to portray Persephone as some strong independent feminist heroine, even though Persephone doesn't do anything to prove herself as such in these retellings (apart from falling in love with the mysterious bad boy Hades or whatever)
Actually in the original myths Demeter fights the Patriarchy. Persephone didn’t have a reason to resent Demeter. Demeter also was very protective but rightfully so for the time. Often it’s agreed that the SA of Demeter by Poseidon happened while Demeter searched for her daughter after hearing Persephone’s screams and being told she was taken by Hades against her will.

@@Quinntus79 the original myths of her and Hades. In the Cthonic myths Hades didn’t exist. The ancient myths of Persephone and Hades had Hades abduct Persephone in the modern sense. If you are going by the Cthonic myths then Hades doesn’t exist. It’s such a stupid point to bring up. The myths about Hades and Persephone come after the Cthonic version of Persephone and that Persephone is very different from the version of Persephone who married Hades. The original myths of Hades and Persephone are after the Cthonic versions and before the modern romantic versions that try and paint the relationship as consensual. With her and Poseidon that’s a clear kidnapping.
If I remember my mythology correctly, Persephone was born from Zeus raping Demeter, in fact I think this is not only Zeus's first affair/rape but the very first rape in Greek mythology. Of course Demeter would fear a similar fate befalling her daughter and assuming the worst, especially since Poseidon also raped her soon afterwards leading to the birth of Arion. Her thought process was probably something like, brother 1 & 2 cornered and raped me why would brother 3 be any different except this time he targeted my daughter and imprisoned her in his home. Demeter had ample reason to assume the worst, her mistake was continuing to assume the worst and pushing that narrative no matter what, then proceeding to hold the whole world hostage to force Persephone to be returned to her.
Hesiod, Theogony 912 ff (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C8th or 7th B.C.) : "Also he [Zeus] came to the bed of all-nourishing Demeter, and she bare white-armed Persephone whom Aidoneus carried off from her mother; but wise Zeus gave her to him." Homer, Iliad 14. 326 ff (trans. Lattimore) (Greek epic C8th B.C.) : "[Zeus names his most pleasurable liaisons :] ‘I loved the queen Demeter of the lovely tresses.’" She is not necessarily raped, according to the source, Demeter was the fourth wife of 6 that Zeus had, but only Hera had the honor of being crowned queen
In the myths it was Demeter standing up against the patriarchy and saving her daughter from being completely imprisoned by Hades after Hades kidnapped Persephone.
The thing is that you can work with a kind and caring Demeter, you can explain her overprotectiveness with how she was treated by Zeus and Poseidon (both of them assaulted her and Zeus gave her daughter to Hades for free and without telling any of them) and not wanting any of that for her daugher; and, when she finds out what happened to Persephone, her sorrow can be explained by expecting nothing better from her third brother (and an interesting situation when mother and daughter are reunited at last and Persephone just tells her mother that Hades just showered her in gifts and gave her the Underworld)
Bc Demeter's a helicopter parent that literally JUST tried to manipulate Persephone into not seeing the man she loves, while completely forgetting she has another daughter besides Persephone. Sure, her rape by Zeus and Poseidon understandably made her this way, but it doesn't justify it.

I'm glad that Persephone chose her path and who she wants to be with but Demeter here's a lesson she's grown woman you can't protected her or shut her out from the world and don't make rumors about Hades just accpect it.
I kinda dislike how a lot of medias drag Demeter through the mud by portraying her like an evil hag who disapproves Hades x Persephone relationship 😭 while canonically she’s one of the chillest Olympians and Persephone rejected Hades vehemently when he kidnapped her, Demeter did neglect her duties of governing the seasons when looking for her daughter but a lot of medias escalated it to her doing it out of spite which bothers me a lot
You've heard of Demeter's curse? It's literally starving to death. That's why people can dislike her because even she took punishment too far to the point a man killed himself by eating himself alive. She truly is Zeus' sister in that sense. And then there's Demophon...Demeter had no right to NOT explain herself for burning him alive and get mad at his mother for not understanding what she was doing. She kidnapped that child after all. Truly...the chilliest Olympian is Hades, and he's been done dirty because of Christianity wanting to associate him with Satan. Idk why the media continues to make Demeter so possessive, in the original myth she was rightfully worried about her daughter because Zeus and and Hades literally kidnapped her.

If I was Demeter I would've not agreed not for half of year, not for more or less. Let the desolation consume the earth. Judge me all you want but If I was in Demeter's shoes, as god I would've refused to fulfill my duties so the world may feels my pain.

What's interesting is how this is more accurate to the Gods than people tend to believe. Persephone was always portrayed as intelligent (which is why she was the one who was responsible for cursing those who wronged the Underworld). Add in how overbearing Demeter was, Persephone would have known about the pomegranate before eating them, because Demeter would have most likely warned Persephone about what would happen (since she didn't want Persephone to leave her side). Finally is Hades, who wasn't a horrible God, but instead someone who did his job and only once ever showed any signs of doing wrong (kidnapping Persephone), which isn't really kidnapping in ancient Greece since he obtained permission from Zeus, which was the equivalent of marriage back then.
Nope in the myths Persephone wanted to return to her mother. She was either predicted as being tricked or her being so desperate due to starvation he needed to eat also Demeter might have not known the rule. “Hermes did not disobey, but straightaway he headed down beneath the depths of the earth, rushing full speed, leaving behind the abode of Olympus. @@mwokozi Except a) Hades was not a trickster, being more solitary and straight forward in every other myth, so him suddenly tricking Persephone goes against his entire character, b) Persephone grew to love the Underworld after a time, as well as loving Hades due to how he was the only God to treat her as an equal, and c) Hades was not in the original myths, where Persephone was the only ruler for hundreds of years, where Hades was only added in later telling's. Then let's not ignore how overbearing Demeter was, where she kept Persephone in consistent isolation until Persephone was taken to the Underworld. It's also the most well known piece of knowledge that consuming the food of the Underworld would bind one too it, so Persephone would have known about this before even descending to the Underworld.
@@jish55 a) the trickster part was because of the time period. B) also again time period and the culture where women were expected to fall in love with their husbands who they were forced to marry. C) Hades in the myths with Persephone did abduct her as she was given to him by Zeus and in the oldest fully intact myth that we have being Homer’s Hymn to Demeter Persephone openly says she was taken against her will and all ancient versions afterwards align with it. Versions of a consensual marriage between the two is post 1900s D) Demeter wasn’t overbearing and actually allowed Persephone to have friends and it was whole Demeter was away that Hades abducted Persephone. Boo! Stop romanticizing a myth about a man kidnapping a young girl and forcing her to be his wife and turning the main character, Demeter, into the villain. It’s so overdone and not even a Greek version of the myth.
I’m really over this thing everyone’s doing now to rewrite the Hades and Persephone myth as a romance story. It’s so played out at this point and the dude is still her fucking uncle. Taking out the abduction and rape from the story doesn’t make it less creepy.
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl in the original myths it wasn’t intentional on her part. The season change was because she was so distraught over the fact that her daughter was missing - you know, having been kidnapped and raped by her uncle. @@TimberlakeTigerGirl She didn’t intentionally make anyone suffer in the original myths. The seasons changed to eternal winter because she was so distraught about her daughter being missing - you know, because she had been r*ped and kidnapped by her uncle. @@TheAzerath I'm not saying she was wrong to be upset. But anyone with a brain would know that she had no right to make millions of people suffer because of her grief. It's made clear in the original stories that she knew that Humanity would suffer in winter and didn't care. It's a pretty common theme in Greek mythology that the gods did whatever they wanted and didn't care about how it affected humans. That's the equivalent of a mother shooting up a random mall or grocery store because her daughter got attacked and was angry about it. You can be upset but don't take it out on others who had nothing to do with it.

@@genesismultiverse4896 yeah but the ancient versions almost unanimously agree that she did not consent and those that didn’t describe her being taken against her will didn’t say she was a consensual partner. Sometimes they differentiate with them luring Demeter away before snatching Persephone up against Persephone’s will. “Out of all her friends only the naiad Cyane tried to rescue the crying Persephone but she was no match for the powerful Hades. Bereaving her friend’s kidnap, Cyane melted into a pool of tears and formed the river Cyane at the spot.” The ancient versions of the myth had smaller changes to some the biggest being the amount of seeds Persephone consumed and thus the time plot between Demeter and Hades. Still her misery with Hades in the beginning and her being kidnapped didn’t really change between ancient myths. It was based off of the custom of the time where a father would give a man permission to take his daughter (usually 14 to 16) and he would do what we in the modern era would call kidnapping as he would take the girl against her consent and imprison her in his house, isolate her from her friends and family, and the girl would first be super miserable and homesick however she had to learn to deal and tolerate behind married to the man. Persephone’s tale follows this. It’s not just to explain how the seasons came to be but also mirrored how marriages worked at the time. It’s a horrific thing that happened and it shouldn’t be forgotten.
