My favorite part was when Kasia Niewiadoma was almost caught by the group, and she looked over her shoulder, took a drink from her bottle, then put her head down and made everyone chase her to the top. Besides Demi Vollering's dominant ride, it was a gutsy performance. Sadly, she'll most likely get knocked off of the podium in tomorrow's TT.
@andrewclark8129
@andrewclark8129 Год назад
I'm really happy Niewiadoma is getting the QOM out this ride. So often she makes the gusty - bordering on foolhardy -attacks that never quite pan out for her. And yeah, she didn't get the stage. And yeah, Kopecky and AVV are almost certainly passing her in the TT. But even if not a win, this attack feels like a success.

@@andrewclark8129 you never know, all depend on how AVV feel after losing this year tdf to Demi, maybe she will be motivated to get second, maybe she don't care anymore! as for Kopecky, almost 2 min might be a bit too big a gap for a time trial of 22.6km or 14 miles. weather might be a factor however! there is a chance of wet course

Hey @LanterneRougeCycling as with lots of people I watched the TDF last year and got hooked by the Netflix show. Now I found your channel and I love it. One piece of content that I am looking is for an explainer of all tactics. There are plenty of videos talking about the lingo, but not how tactics work. This video with Vollering and van Vleuten was one of the many examples where tactics came in play. If you ever have the time for it I would appreciate in advance. Keep doing your great work!

I was very confused and impressed. Confused that van Vleuten already went on the Aspin. That was way too early. And confused that van Vleuten and Vollering let Niewiadoma go. Impressed by the attack of Vollering and that Kopecky was able to stay competitive untill the end.
@mracer8
@mracer8 Год назад
Let me help you out! The plan was for MovieStar and Vleuten to attack early because that in theory the longer/harder style work for Vleuten more while Demi is stronger and have better kick!! but unfortunately she found out she don't quite have the leg today and Demi is simply too strong! As for the reason they let Niewiadoma go is because Vollering refuse to work with Vleuten to pull back Niewiadoma on the valley when she got a small gap, Vallering reason was she have 2 team mate in the chasing group and one of them is already in yellow jersey, so no reason for her to waste energy, if you want to close the gap, that's fine. The reason I think AVV want Vollering to help close the gap was yes, you have 2 team mate behind, but one of them is on yellow jersey, so unless you are good with 2nd or 3rd place at the end, that's ok with me since I already win the tours before! I think that's her thinking/saying!

Demi Vollering DESTROYS Van Vleuten on Tourmalet -- We dont know that, because - like some comments say - we saw just one (!) mountain stage. And it is no exception (for the outstanding riders), that one can win one mountain stage, but cant stand an other one (or three in row) after that. So technically speaking it is just one day ride what DV has won. -- May be (I don't know that) the organisers set just one mountain stage to give (for AvV sake) other riders a change to compete. And because Tourmalet is spectacular...

AvV will be 41 in a couple months. time will catch us all. which makes her performance these past few years even more staggering 🤯imagine if she had started sooner, she started amateur at 25 so to me she’s one of my favorite athletes ever

Estava torcendo por Niewiadoma, é uma ciclista incrível....AvV é uma lenda inquestionável...Demi venceu, mas não "destruiu" ninguém ,pois para isso teríamos de ver mais etapas na alta montanha...

Think Annemiek made a strategic error. Shouldn't have attacked on Col d'Aspin. All what Annemiek needed to do was follow Demi as long as possible. Just sit in her wheel. Annemiek should have known that Demi would recover faster from the efforts in the days before, because of her age. She still would have lost, but the damage would have been much less. Maybe 30 seconds.

Movie star rode a very stupid race. They plan backfired. Movie star used up all they climbers on the first climb instead of dropping other in the GC when they were doing all this hard pull they ended up dropping they own which left they leader without any help even before they started the dreaded Tourmalet climb. Whomever came up with this movie star plan really did not see or know just how strong Vollering was. Also they should have stop the pacing on the climb after realizing they were not dropping anyone. Very very bad plan.

please suggest a new plan that can drop the SDW Yellow Jersey who LK who was leading by 55 second at the race start while their go to GC rider is known by everyone to have the strongest leg of anyone this year!

Very striking that the only big climbing stage just has 90km and 2 climbs. This stage profile looks like something that even I could ride in a day, and I'm not that fit. I wonder, why don't they give the women's race harder stages? Is it because they feel a stage like this is already differentiating enough in the women's race and they don't want to lose all the sprinters to time limit? Or is it just a traditional thing to make the women's races a bit less harsh than the men's races?
@beejayvandegriendt3632
@beejayvandegriendt3632 Год назад
You could really ride that stage in around 3 hours, and ride like that for 8 days in a row? Because that's the only way your comment has vaguely any merit.
@gvsgaius

@@beejayvandegriendt3632 ? I just noticed I could ride this in a day, and that's not the case for most of the men's stages. Just wondering why the big discrepancy.

i think lotte's performance is not being recognized enough, she just beat all those climbers and finished '2' of the tour de France even tho she's not a climber, and she probably would have won it if Demi wasn't there, she would also get many more stages if not for wacky tactics.

all-caps hyperbole in the title is LR's thing. the more ridiculous, the better, especially if it snares a few moaners in the comments pointing out AvV is coming to the end of her career, as if LR somehow wasn't aware.

You obviously don't understand the logistics and resources involved in stage racing. Plus, the audience is very much the same, in cycling watching one Grand Tour at a time is more than enough.
@savagepro9060

There would be a large overlap. The women’s event last only 8 days. They won’t reach Paris in tandem. Next, the course for the men is mostly too demanding for the ladies: distance and gradient severity.

That's the only way to truly get people like me to watch women's racing. Same day, women start a couple hours earlier and have shorter stages. Same 3 week calendar. The do this in amateur racing and it works. Lower categories go early and pros go last.

Lanterne Rouge What an appalling title, what about Vollering & SDworx dominate on Tourmalet Of course vollering was in very good form, and congratulations to her. However, it is not a case of HER destroying (an offensive and superfluous word when commentating on sport) AvV. AvV was definitely not at her best, and was also riding against SDworx as a whole, you say it yourself Vollering refused to ride and asked her team to help her, it took a team effort to beat AvV (and confuse everyone else), and that was probably their plan, AvV was seen to be the only person who could beat Vollering. I don’t where you get that, “Vollering gave her the look”, what a absurd statement? How do you know? But still, congratulations to Vollering! A changing of the guard so to speak! And AvV, 40 years old, cycling among women nearly young enough to be her own kids (and beating them), coming home in fourth place, still promoting women’s cycling (who’s going to replace her) and still doing so well, congratulations to AvV, just thought I’d mention that for you! I’ll leave this up for a while, interesting to see the remarks
