This was one of the best demos I’ve ever seen and I’ve been painting a very long time. What a delight to watch. Thank you Kevin for your generous spirit and for so openly explaining how and why you made your decisions. The painting is exquisite.
I agree. It was fabulously fun and instructive. And I love the results! Thanks for letting me know about it. I have to play with some of these techniques!
I so LOVE your free, spontaneous, informal, and fun style. I can just tell you would be fun to hang out with! You make me think I can paint. Really love the remark about cauliflower marks. I can never remember what not to do and you make me think I should just paint rather than try to stay within the lines. Thank you for sharing! You have a new subscriber!
I liked those sounds while painting, it becomes so lively, one gets the feeling as if the demonstration is going on in front of you, very well explained. It's delightful experience to watch the whole painting. Accidently I saw your video..so happy to watch..I will surely try. Lovely.. Thanks 18:26
I am very grateful for this video. I’ve been an artist for years, but watercolor has never been easy for me like the other mediums are. I’ve been wanting to learn from someone how to be better at it, and this video definitely was well-made and instructive! I hope to see more of your work.♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
This is a fabulous painting, and you are a fabulous painter. I have always wanted to paint this way and have yet to achieve it. I am definitely going to try to paint this picture your way. I am so glad I’m subscribed to you. Can’t wait to watch more of your paintings. Blessings.
I felt like you really were standing there talking to me in the studio. I’m transitioning from acrylics and a watercolor and I’ve been looking for some basic instruction. You provided verbal and demonstrative instruction in a beautiful, beautiful mix for the novice. Thank you thank you! I especially enjoyed your painting noises. But I don’t think I’ll be able to paint without sound effects now. It was delightful. 😁🙃
Just found your channel, love this demo! I absolutely love florals and I have always been intimidated with the loose watercolor arrangements. This will be something I will have a go at. I have been a floral artist more in realism and have wanted to become more abstract.
Where you started & where you ended was quite a journey. Love your technique. Watching the video again. I think I will continue to watch it. You have an ability to teach & hope I have the ability to learn. Thank you.
Thank you Kevin. I painted the white watercolour flowers last year and won a prize at our local fall fair. Just about to start this one. Your descriptions of the "marks" makes perfect sense to me. Please make more videos. Cheers, Kathy from Canada
Love this style, I had a go and I must admit it was both quite physical and emotional to paint this way. Thank you Kevin, for such a wonderful gift and introducing me to Yuko Nagayama this way. Subscribed!
Just so lovely. You gave me such a great afternoon watching as the flowers came to life. I just love the leaf on the right hand side that curls. The shadow is so wonderful. But tell me. Do you have certain clothes that you wear or are all your clothes paint marked?
Thank you for this inspiring painting! I am watching before beginning painting today, hoping that some of the free, playful and yet skillful influence will soak into my midstream, tumble around and re-emerge as improvement in my work.
Thank you for such an inspiring and joyful illustration of the beauty of watercolor. You literally made me smile watching your creative mark making and mastery of this medium.
Just subscribed and happy I did. Loved the method you use in your video!!. How you paint is very appealing to me. Look forward to your next video. Thank you 🙏🏼 ❤
Marvellous. I love the wet in wet shapes; your entire demonstration and picture were fantastic. Thank you so much for your inspiration and master class in painting with water colour. Xxx ❤
I watched this wonderful video yesterday and got all revved up. You are a truly excellent teacher. I’ve been watching loads of w/c videos for a year now and of hundreds, yours would be in my top ten or so! I switched from acrylic to w/c and as you say, there is a lot to learn. I love how you explain everything as you go. So helpful. Many thanks. You just popped up on my RU-vid “feed” a few days ago. Also appreciate your comments about painting and expression and that there’s no one way for any part of it. I so much hope you will continue doing these - flowers is what I do but am interested as well (20% ?) in abstract. My arthritic hands are hurting but I needed you to know how much what you do means to people. THANK YOU!
G'day Barbara Thanks for comments. Prior to lockdown I ran classes with120 folks on my list. 8 3 hour classes through the week. Loved it. I had been encouraged by many to do videos. I paint my own works non teaching days, or I used to. Lockdown comes and rears ugly head but, allows me to paint more and do these videos. I don't do editing etc. Editor in last flurry at Uni. Free soon so more videos out shortly. OK
@@ArtistKevinChapman Thanks, Kevin. I just have to say that I’ve loved every video of yours that I have watched. The latest was the Wyeth inspired landscape. It is awesome seeing how you paint it in real time. The result simply beautiful. Your running commentary is so helpful especially on color combinations and strokes. I hope things get back to normal where you are so you can resume your in-person classes. Lucky students. I’ve taken many classes but you are the most helpful.
I'm intimidated by flowers because I feel that I have to paint the details. I like that you started with loose drawing, shaped the flowers initially with water, and added colors later. I'll practice your method. Thanks for the inspiration!
Kevin, I am really enjoying your classes here in Virginia. I love your loose fun approach, all of your lessons, and your sound effects. Thank you so much. I am recommending you to my art friends.
I've been binge watching Bob Ross doing wet on wet oil painting technique. He says all the little sounds help, & if someone hears you just explain you're an artist. Everyone expects odd behavior from artist. It's ok.
I agree with @susangiannantonio. Your teaching style is 100% freeing, and I love the language you use, mark-making, shape, etc as most teachers don’t include it in their teaching, and you use other painters work. Good on you. I have gained so much from your confidence which translates through the video to my brush. Thank you. Best video ever. Off to bravely paint flowers!
