How do you answer the question referring to "tell us about your parents" if the parents are legally married but separated? The only option is married or not married?
I adopted my granddaughter so iam the only listed parent on birth certificate. How will that work when it asks about second parent when there isn't one?
I was loggin in to my parent account but I dont see anything to sign, When I did my section it also have my parent section in there so I just sign 1 time, it not look like your. What can I do right now? I'm so confused.
Thanks for the excellent presentation. Any idea when we as a parent will be able to get hold of 2024-2025 fafsa aid calculator from studentaid? Also in the presentation I did not see anywhere for parents it asked to enter adjusted gross income(AGI) but it asked to enter asset information… Isnt asset information ir-relevant if AGI is less than 175% of federal poverty level? Also about the family size, do you enter the family size of whats reported on 2022 tax return or the family size for the aid year of 2024-2025?
Federal Student Aid is supposed to release their official aid calculator in October. I have created one based on the new FAFSA formula you can access today at: www.collegemoneymethod.com/2024-25-student-aid-index-sai-calculator/ Because the new process will transfer your 2022 tax forms from the IRS, there is no longer income questions for parents to answer. Based on what is transferred from the IRS and that AGI, they will determine if you are eligible for the max Pell Grant and SAI equal to at least $0. For family size, I recommended entering the current actual size and overriding what is reported on your 2022 tax return.
Thanks. I have used your calc earlier and it answered lots of questions I had from reading the actual announcement and confusing details in the published documents. I will follow your suggestions about family size.
How do you edit the form after you’ve submitted ? Is there a way to edit it before fafsa can determine the amount of money you’ll be receiving? Their new website made this so confusing for me
I am really confused with the new FAFSA. Separate not legally divorced. Filed 22 as married. salary >150K Income 2023 (due to separation) is in the 30's with a second child applying to college. Wont the taxes for 22 affect the SAI? How to I report this on the new FAFSA? please help
Hello i am 35 years olds starting college in july i am waiting for the 24-25 fasta to come out.I am married but have been separated for 7 years.I am not legally separated due to how much it cost I live in texas.but we have been living in different households since 2016 so my question is what documentations would i need to provide to them to prove that we are separated.since we are not legally divorced.
From my understanding, only one is needed. Two can be created in case the other parent wants to enter information too. Unless the parent is undocumented, they do not create an FSA ID
Thanks for your help!!! I have a quick question, if I have a property abroad that I don't pay taxes on in the US, do I have to include it in the FAFSA?
I have a unique case where my son lives and studies in the US IN his senior year so going to apply for fall 2024. I am a non-US citizen living overseas . How will I create the FSA ID?
Is your son a US citizen or have status? That will allow him to apply for Federal Student Aid with the FAFSA. See this link : studentaid.gov/understand-aid/eligibility/requirements/non-us-citizens The process to create an FSA ID without a social security number has yet to be announced by the Department of Education.
Excellent information - but I do have a question. I'm divorced, and my son who is applying to colleges lives with me and has for the last 5 years. On the form I noticed that it says that the parent chosen should be the parent who has contributed the most financially to the student in the last 12 months. That would be me - but - his father (who lives out of state), currently is out of a job and when he does pick up work he makes much less than I do, he also doesn't regularly make support payments. Is my son not allowed to use him as the parent to fill out the form?
Hello. Excellent question. FAFSA application will direct your son to invite his parent who provides the greater financial support. Given this, it seems he would choose you, so you would be the parent contributor to FAFSA.
Hello, I been separated for 6 years. Divorce is in court process. I have been filling as head of household. I know I am the only one required to fill fafsa because my daughter has been living with me since then. So the question is what status do I fill? Since I been separated but not legally divorced. Thank you for all your help.
@@collegemoneymethod I was told if is not finalize I have to put married since I don’t have a proof of divorce yet. Hopping is not true. Please advise. Thank you for your quick response.
This is not the case. I have been in trainings directly with Federal Student Aid. If you are separated, you will choose separated, and be the sole parent contributor to the FAFSA if you provide your daughter's greater financial support in the 12 months prior to application.
