I'd like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to one of the greatest marriages between performer and instrument. The instrument...the Yamaha DX7....the performer....Whitney Houston. As I've listened to Thiago's beautiful demo of this incredible instrument I can tell that he as well was touched by Whitney's vocals and the outstanding accompaniment and cutting definitive sound of the dx. To me...whenever I hear the dx piano...Whitney immediately comes to mind. Rest in peace Whitney....
I have always LOVED the DX electric piano sound. Heard it on many recordings but never felt like I heard it coming from my actual DX7 or even SY99 or any RU-vid stuff until now. THIS is what I've been looking for. All these sounds are worthy of the studio especially the EP's. Gorgeous and sooo musical. Thanks for letting us have a listen and reasserting the power of Yahama's DX line, the most musical and genre-crossing synth of all time, IMO.
Just got one of these 2 days ago with a lot of RAM packs, Such an awesome synth! I'm glad I found one that just came in the shop I work at as it is extremely rare and isnt one of things you see every day!
Excellent sounds and thanks for the link. I got the files and uploaded both banks to my DX7IID but I have issues with the Performace file how can this be uploaded into the keyboard? I tried with the DXManager unsucessfully.
I just bought a used Yamaha SY85. So I know it's capable of those classic DX7 electric piano patches. I've got a sound that is pretty much the sound, but needs tweaking. Could you possibly help me out with some tips on tweaking the patch to match those classic digital electric pianos you were playing through the first 4 min.?
I recently bought a DX7IIFD. but it didn't come with any Cartridge (a ROM or RAM)?. So I bough a floppy disk with loads of sounds from an Ebayer from France. Unfortunately I've not been able to correctly load the sounds on to it to be able to hear them and therefore save them for Performance use. I love some of the patch sounds you have on this video as I'm in a new romantic 80's tribute band. I don't know what the SYSEX thing is mentioned below as I've only the floppy disk I bought. Any tips you can offer will be warmly received. I'm not sure, if the 64 sounds currently on the synth are the factory sounds or made by the former owner? Tony aka Semi-tone
I'm no DX7 owner, but there is a video of someone playing the TX7 (DX7 without the keyboard and many buttons) with the DX7 as a midi keyboard. The DX7 has acoustic piano sounds, but they aren't the most realistic piano sounds. You could search in YT for "DX7 piano" or "shape of the things that hum DX7", the last one is a documentary with a typical 80's DX7 piano sound. Hope you get an answer from a DX7 owner!
There was a software editor coming with the PLG150-DX which (most probably) can do this job. It's called "DX Simulator" and it is still available for free download at the Yamaha website.
I have a DX7 and no rom carts. I just have the synth and stand. Although the 32 patches are great can anyone tell me where to go or what to do to get hold of some rom carts please?
Toby - Don't waste your money on ROM carts - Instead go purchase DX Manager software and use syx banks they are all over the internet, many for free. Plus DX Manager has an easy to use programing interface so you never have to program from the synth which can be frustrating.
Hey Thiago. In your opinion are there differences between the DX7 IID and the DX7 IIFD other than the obvious Floppy disk that comes on the DX7 IIFD? I've read that the DX7 IID has a "cleaner, more crisp" sound.
The DX7II sounds so damn beautiful in your video. I guess it's only because of the wonderful music that you are playing on it. I almost started to dream while listening to your "Electric Piano" playing. The pad sound at 9:57 is just AWESOME. At 7:53 you're playing "Human nature" from Michael Jackson, right?
Hey man i have a question.... I'm not a piano player, but, does this synth works as a MIDI controller? Sorry if thats a stupid question LOL!! And, does that synth acoustic piano sounds??? Thank you!
@thiagogomestoledo I downloaded dxmanager from your link but the file for the patches does not open. Is the DXmanager a free shareware program or do I have to purchase to open the patches? Please advise, Thanks
Very nice playing, fantastic sounds! Thx for this vid. I add to my fav vid) P.S. Last night I got my own new M-Audio Audiophile 2496 - very cool, super card for real money =) P.S.S. And thx for Yamaha` sound patches too.
Its great to hear such lovely Eps.. the other keyboard which has great sounds the SY 99. Did you edit the sounds a lot? very nostalgic..One is available for about 650 usd in India..Thanks.I owned a Motif XS but had to get rid of ot because it was so heavy..Whats the weight of the dx?
Nice sounds and great playing, how do you do the brass falls @ 10:30 with your pitchbend? I can't get it right. BTW I found out that you need the FM-Alive program to load the sounds in your DX7 II.
Thiago! What is the patch (and the brassy ones after) you use at 5:40. I have your dxm collection and am looking for this brassy section of patches and havent found it yet. THANK YOU
Can you help me, what is better MKI or MK II? can I load this patches into the MKI? or only MKII or TX 802. Thanks. also do you know where to download these as samples for Kontakt? Thanks
Hi Thiago Thanks for your videos and your support-line for keyboards and music I will soon receive a Yamaha DX7 IID but just with the original internal factory presets (whithout any Rom/RAM cartridge) So I would like to know if I could have the same sounds (Electric Piano) as yours you use in your video : (DEMO Performance) YAMAHA DX7 IID DX7 IID Thanks in Advance Chris from France
Hi, how can I load your sound to my Yamaha DX7II? The DX manager write an error:the size is long... When upload the sound the DX7 it write: midi bulk error....
@thiagogomestoledo Is it possible to load this patches on a YamahaTX802 which is the rack version of the DX7II. Can you please save those patches as a syx file, would appreciate you help.
Vc me venderia uma copia??? Obrigado.
@thiagogomestoledo I have already try to load the patches using DXManager to my yamaha TX802 but DXmanager will only load the patches not the performance, the software is not campatible in performance mode for the TX802 can you save the performances as a sysex file so I can load them would appreciate your help please let me know thanks.
Thanks for being so gracious in answering my questions Thiago! Here's another one. Given the choice between a DX7 IIFD with Gray Matter E! or without it....which one would you choose? Is the sequencer provided with Gray Matter easy to use or not? I would suppose that if it were that good of a sequencer....you would have one with Gray Matter E!.
Hello Thiago, awesome sounds. i am very interested in having those sounds for my DX7 IIFD, do you sell them? i will highly apreciatte your answer. your friend Armando FDz.
I honestly think the DX7 MKI sounds larger. I feel this way because the patch layering on the DX5 (which has 2 DX7 MK 1 chips) Sounds bigger than DX7 II D layered with it's 2 newer chips. I think it's down to personal opinion. But this just seemed to be something I noticed.
nice work, and you have good skills and now all the fat chords nice to see:) i have a tx802 yamaha moldul with lovly rhodes:)) good strings too you have made
Man, I download your patches, but I cant' transfer to my dx7IID. I use DX Manager 1.0, and there's no option to load dxm files, just sys. Can you help me about this? I have to buy another program to do this? Your patches are amazing! Thanks!
Andrew Piatek Agree. D-50 is present. I don't have a DX-7 but have a SY-77. I remember those days I'd see their front panels with those pretty names on TV/music videos in 80s. And pressing my nose against the glass window of music stores too.
Wow, this sound soooooo great! Do you have tracks you finished so I can play them on my Galaxy S ???? Cos i'm really curious how you sound with drums, bass and all the rest!
Fico no aguardo obrigado!
Awesome Sound!!!! Post more videos of Electric Pianos!!! How can I load these patches? For example I have Yamaha Motif ES7 with the PLG-150DX, Motif XS Rack, and a S90 XS. Submit your recommendations! It will be ll appreciated! I have I already downloaded your patches!! Thank you very much sir! I
