@@shygalaxyyt2400 I think it’s stupid to bring up the past, because things do change, but it is interesting how quick they are to forget their past when they are calling all republicans racists. Edit: Sense so many people are bringing this up I thought I’d address it. I’m not saying history isn’t important. It’s very important, and without it we wouldn’t be where we are today. However, in the context of an argument, I think it’s dumb to go, “well you did this in your past so hah”. I may not have worded it so well but that’s what I meant.

@Mrs Edna Welthorpe Actually, due to the party switch he had the political views of what is now called a democrat. However, given his hatred of POC, I’d say he would probably be against the Black Lives Matter movement, and would be against raising awareness for the poor treatment of Native people. So yes, he was not quite a model democrat😅

There’s not much of a middle anymore, since it’s really hard to NOT lean one direction or another on topics like, you know, “Should literal Nazis be voted into office?”. You don’t have to fall into extremes to still be on the side of a fence.

I think the problem with 2 party systems is that it causes people to perceive political views as binary, good or bad. We can become inclined to treat each other as enemies. In order to be truly rational we must practice critical thinking non-stop.

Critical thinking takes a lot of energy and most poor people don't have the money to afford nutritious food to support such faculties. Even if you have money, finding good food is hard in the US. I'm a republican, but I can respect a liberal with a fair argument, it's just the extremists on both sides that annoy me. I’d challenge the reach of the arguments and their scope of evidence. Conservatives tend to be driven by experience and liberals by idealisms. Both are CRUCIAL. They are entwined with in all people, but people display attributes like the Purdue formula.

What I don't understand is the extreme identity politics. I'm a liberal but find myself agreeing with conservatives on certain issues or circumstances. That doesn't mean I'm not a liberal it just means I'm open to both sides (and just so happen to agree with liberals more). Politics is too linear here. It's like if your party says it you have to agree or your not a real liberal/republican. People should stand by their beliefs but be open to others too and not mindlessly pledge eternal allegiance to any one party

A good majority of people would agree with you. It doesn't seem to be a very independent thought. But I don't see anyone talking about how this was just an experiment to see the effect of political views on the brain!! You get clearer results when comparing the brains of more extreme liberal and conservative people. There's no need to include people that are more centrist or mixed in their ideologies, that would just complicate things.

It doesn't matter which side you are on, you are a great person in most every way. A lot of people see politics and world leaders in different ways. I seem to be the only person in existence who supported the decisions of the president before they blew up. Anyway, all presidents are good in some ways, and bad in other ways. Both sides should be respected honestly. I won't get angry at you if you are conservative as long as you can agree with some of the things I say about politics. I might as well be a voice for leftists who are believed to not exist. We exist, and we are proud to be Americans.

@@JJ-hg9bb True, many "centrists" are that way. But I don't really consider those people centrists. They're simply indecisive. Flipping between liberal and conservative doesn't make you centrist. I have BOTH liberal and conservative ideals at the same time, not one or the other. For instance, on the topic of immigration, I strongly believe a country must protect their borders against unlawful entry, and should go to great measures to do so. That is typically a conservative ideal. But at the same time, I don't think those who are already here, who have started successful lives, with families and connections and jobs, should be deported. That's typically a liberal ideal. But more than having ideals on both sides of the aisle is being able to understand ideals on both sides of the idea, even if you disagree with them. It seems that hardcore liberals and conservative have put so much distance between themselves that they can no longer fathom where the other is coming from. And that's what's leading to all the hatred between the two groups.

@@dereka64 I don't consider anyone besides people who are indecisive centrists, centrist is really just a dissociative term for people who don't want to be affiliated with a party, either because they think their "above" everyone else, or because they can only see the radical sides of each party and think they're both lunatics (which is true), but that becomes unfair because that is only a vocal minority of the parties. Most likely, you either fall left or right, no matter how little right or left it is, and you shouldn't try to disassociate with either group because a vocal minority. The problem now isn't the hatred from either side, cause there is many people on each side that do try to understand one another, but it's the media giving all the attention to the worst parts of each side. They have created the divide between the two groups even bigger to a point where people who aren't too involved in politics or people just getting into politics see these stories and articles that you either totally agree with or totally disagree with. It creates a stigma that one side is all of one thing and the two parties are complete opposites, while there is a middle ground for discussion that people don't see.

G O I kinda agree but I feel at least where I live it’s the other way around a lot of the liberals are very far left like wanting to ban guns and a lot of “conservatives” are more in the middle. I think these things probably change from place to place. For example in California they are trying to make it so illegal immigrants can stay but More east cost are more cautious about the illegal part of illegal immigrants.

Ya it’s actually completely true!! However even though I’m technically libertarian I still consider myself republican because I align with at least 80-90% of republican viewpoints. I barely align with democratic ones

I stick to my own personal beliefs and will NEVER be stuck to the confines of any political party or related group. To put it one way, I agree alot with the observations George Carlin had about humans. I don't worship him, but he happened to be a guy I agree with very much of his observations and what he said except for a few things here and there. Very blunt and to the point he was, and that's how I have always been before I ever heard of Carlin.

Emily DeNyse it’s smart to be independent. I’m a huge conservative but I’m no trump fan. I agree with some policy’s but on the other hand I agree with some liberal policies. I can’t stand most liberal politicians but I can come to an agreement with some. Being independent is the best route don’t support 1 side, don’t support any side. Anything affiliated with the government

i'm definitely more left leaning, even as a canadian. liberals are much more about the equal rights for everyone than the conservatives. now i don't agree with everything they stand for, but overall, i stand for equal rights

yaboi123 45 I think it’s an issue but I don’t believe we should blindly accept science without any debate. For example, in the medical field the lobotomy got a Nobel prize, but that doesn’t mean that’s how we should treat mental health. For climate change, solar panels sound good but they produce more toxic waste than nuclear power, and the manufacturing of panels releases nitrous triflouride which is 1000 times more potent greenhouse gas than CO2

ThatGuy Man nuclear power is a temporary solution, we are putting it in water but it has caused spills and accidents. So in the long run(in my opinion) the benefits of the solar panels will work
