There are more bacteria living in and on us than we have cells!!! The mitochondria inside our cells, the powerhouses of our cells, are actually foreign organisms and without the gut flora we would not be able to absorb nutrients and we would die!!! Antibiotics destroy all the good besides the "bad" bacteria and hence destroy the immune system! They nearly killed me 9 years ago and l am still not healthy!

Good afternoon Dr. Dray! Last year I tried a new mascara and developed my first stye. I had to get it surgically removed. My optician stated word for word what you mentioned in the video about a healthy eyelid regimen. Now I take better care of not only my eyelids, but all of my skin thanks to your informative advice. I think eyelash extensions are part of the problem. I had had them several times and they always tell you not to wash your eyes too much as it makes the lashes fall off faster. This is terrible advice if you are prone to mites and sensitive to them. I will never get eyelash extensions again.

Esthetician here. I've witnessed Estes use their tweezers to fix their friends lashes real quick and then put those tweezers right back in the case - meaning they didn't sanitize the tweezers. I pointed this out and their response, "it didn't actually touch skin so actually its not dirty." Just a minute ago she was laughing about how many eye boogers she woke with every morning....eww, demodex poops.

HYPOCHLOROUS ACID WORKED WONDERS for my daughters Demodex infestation. I’m not using that word lightly either. They were causing constant styes & chalzions on her eyes. Her lashes were falling out and then they caused her to have an awful red rash around her mouth. It would get itchy. I felt so bad for her. She was about 4/5 years old. Her eye dr reccomended the hypochlorous acid it helped so much. We’ve pulled back a lot on her eye hygiene routine and she hardly ever gets styes and no more chalazions. I would spray the hypochlorous acid on a few different cotton balls. One cotton ball per eye. And then one for around her nose and mouth where the rash was. She no longer has the rash and hasn’t gotten any bumps at all since we started using it.

Speaking as an optometrist, I definitely wouldn't recommend using baby shampoo for blepharitis or your eye lids. It strips your eyelids from their necessary oily expulsion. And throws off the tear film composition due to thr mild detergent. There's products that are created for treating demodex or blepharitis. There are products that are made

Just curious does your body destroy them or how does your body control them
@mockingbirdnightingale7169
@mockingbirdnightingale7169 4 года назад
@@tashbrewster689 the body can't destroy them. There are antiparasitic agents like ivermectin that can kill them. In my country that wasn't available so we used tea tree oil to get rid of them (for some reason they really don't like it). Then repairing the skin barrier and maintaining skin health can prevent a recurrence.

@@mockingbirdnightingale7169 ah that makes sense i was just curious, what help skin barrier does the tea tre oil help? It's only because I get acne roseacea so I was just curious on how to keep it healthy as I'm noy sure on my triggers. X
@mockingbirdnightingale7169
@mockingbirdnightingale7169 4 года назад
@@tashbrewster689 tea tree oil doesn't really help the skin barrier as far as I know. But demodex mites do not like tea tree oil. Repairing the skin barrier helps keep the skin healthy over the long term. I only used the tea tree oil for a very short time under my dermatologist's direction. She also had me on antibiotics and antifungals to prevent infection because my skin barrier was so weakened at that time. Gradually I healed and now I look like anyone else. However when it was severe I was unable to leave the house because it was so disfiguring. There are various things that can cause rosacea; but if your rosacea is caused by demodex, there are many who have successfully treated it with the antiparasitic approach!

Mites and conjunctivitis are two reasons I would give my students for not sharing mascara. Even though I was teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology, they would tell me they "bathe real good and don't have no mites" [sic]. When I tried to tell them we all have mites and bacteria as part of our microbiomes, they just wanted to argue and continued to share the mascara and other make up. 💖🌷💄👛

I was diagnosed in my mid-fifties with acne rosacea. I was actually relieved that my diagnosis wasn’t lupus. My family doctor thought I might scar. It was so severe, he wanted me to splash only water on my face until I could see a dermatologist. Sadly, I had to be on a wait list. Fast forward to my appointment, my dermatologist walks in the room as says, “Acne Rosacea.” She told me most of her rosacea patients are fair and caucasian. She did a scraping and found demodex in excess of what is normal. She asked for me to be patient because it would take a long time to resolve. I took oral minocycline for a long time. I was asked to only use my prescriptions on my face. I washed with Avar (now it is Plexion Cleanser), and I applied Soolantra. I was put on oral steroids, at first, for inflammation. I looked like a monster, and I didn’t leave home (except to see my doctors) for at least three months. I’m almost sixty now, and my skin looks very smooth and clear. I use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and moisturizer with Shea butter and Niacinamide. Two or three times a week, I still incorporate the topical prescriptions - just to keep things in check. I haven’t needed oral antibiotics for a few years. I kept a photo diary of this rosacea journey, and it’s difficult to look at. When I was younger and in ballet class, we would face the mirror for center work, and I had wondered why I was always red as a beet ...when nobody else was. I thought I just worked harder. I probably have had rosacea all of my life. By learning how to improve my skin barrier (following Dr. Dray’s advice), my skin is in much better condition than before my diagnosis. Sorry for this long story, but it has been quite a journey. If one works diligently, there is hope beyond this beast called rosacea. Oh ~ And never forget your sunscreen! ☀️🌿

Then went down to 10 mg per day, then down to every other day, twice a week and then off all together. The whole process took one year but mostly because I was scared it would come back because i was on such a low dose. No side effects at all for me but really dry lips at first. Nice part was you don’t need to was hair as often. Need a really good lip and face moisturizer.

@@kristinas5714 hi! I took accutane for about 8 months. It wasn't easy as my skin dried out and my nostrils were constantly dripping. But it was so worth it in the long run. Its been several years since and my skin is NORMAL. No hint that I ever had rosacea. No flare ups, no inflammation, no redness or ruddiness. No acne scars. I don't remember the milligrams, but it was my wonderful new dermatologist who recommended it after nothing else worked. I did have to take monthly blood tests to check my liver function but this is just part of the process as accutane is a very controlled drug. I did not need to take the required monthly pregnancy test as I had had a hysterectomy previously. I hope this information helps. Regards, Dru

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I didn’t quite understand why my dermatologist prescribed Soolantra for me when Finacea & Metronidazole failed. I was on it for several months & I’m happy to say that my rosacea is well under control & I have not needed the Soolantra for almost a year. I am passing on this video to my GP who never understood why I was on it either!

@@urperfect2mee depending on your skin but 3-4 weeks. It’s basically 2 life spans of these mites. It comes and goes though so it’s best to do the oil cleanse and second deep cleanse at night and put it directly on Clean skin. I use 1-2 peas size blobs and make sure it’s on all areas cos I noticed if I did it mainly the inflammation only it moved the inflammation over. The mites come out of the pores when it’s dark so put it on half an hour before sleeping. Then when you wake up wash your face straight away and use a oil free moisturise before sunscreen. If I’m sweating like after being outside or after gardening I wash my face straightaway. I use soap free wash and it’s not drying. Once or twice a week I use a chemical peel. Just to help with the mites and starve them of dead skin cells and sebum ha ha

I know you may not see this bc your comment was 3 years ago. But I wanted to tell you that I was on Minocycline too for the same reason. However, after years on it, I noticed dark lines on my fingernails, running from the cuticle to the tips. And, even worse, I developed bluish gray skin around my mouth, especially upper lip. Turns out that’s a side effect of the meds. I was switched to Doxycycline about a year ago. Condition is better, but not gone. Just beware.

I had demodex out of control for many years it sucked. Dermatologist remedies didn't really help me much. I ended up solving the problem by watching my face every night and applying a mixture of tee tree oil and colloidal silver. during the night demodex have a party in the surface of the skin and when they die inside the skin it causes a reaction (redness). it took a couple of weeks to see improvement it got worse before it improved. that worked for me and i'm not saying it will work for everyone.

They tend to be oily and irritated even if not swollen anymore. (I wake some nights with my eyes dry and have to gently rub to bring moisture back) Could this be the mites? Thanks so much for doing this video! I have both Rosecia and Blepharitus. Now that you say it, I have a couple other inflammatory issues, chronic migraines and allergies. I also have noticed that one inflammatory reaction can trigger another (allergic reaction can cause a migraine...ect). I also have to be on several antihistamines and those perpetuate my dry eyes. I also get "hair follicular pain" when my hair hasn't been washed for a couple days (I have curly and color treated hair, the recommendation is to wash less often). I saw a video of yours saying something about yeast building up, I tried the dandruff shampoo. It's too harsh of a soap for my color treated hair (strips the color). I wonder if it's truly the yeast or the mites like my eyes and face?

Hi Dr. Dray, this was very interesting. I had no idea about the mites, or that there were multiple species. I have a question/request. I like your skin care routine videos, because they really help break things down. But I would like a video just purely on the do's and don'ts of washing your face. In other words, I would like a searchable video that tells me what I should and should not be doing. I'm an avid watcher/supporter of yours and would sincerely appreciate a dedicated video on this topic. It seems basic (it is, really) but these videos are also quite popular on RU-vid. Thanks for reading.

Hi Dr Dray! I've been following you for awhile now. This doesn't have anything to do with your topic of the day, EW!, but thank you for your videos they are so informative, although I like it better when you share your personal life better. Thanks also for letting me know about the dangers of alcohol on aging skin! Sadly, I had finally found a great body moisturizer that I used on my face by Goldbond 10 hour Max it had hylaraulnic (sp) acid and melatonin and it did have chammomile for fragrance. skin SOAKED it up at night and in the morning it was still there. ANYWAY got to looking at the bottom of the ingredients list is ceta-alcohol !!!! So sad. I'm tempted to use it because it otherwise seemed to be so hydrating. It was almost the LAST ingredient. Doesn't this mean a very small amount used? Maybe just a little needed for drying purposeses? Anyway anyone or young ones who don't mind alcohol this is a great moisturizer IMO.

I have to go on a vacation in 12 days and I just want to clear my skin of wounds and scabs at least. Can you please tell me some solution? Also, I'm going to Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and Denmark. Struggling with dry eyes, dry scalp, itchy eyes and itchy scalp. All happend after I did eyelash extensions. I was at dermatologist, he told me I have folliculitis, later on I connected the dots. I probably have the demodex. It makes sense because when I bought a shampoo that had menthol, tea tree oil and zinc in it, I felt immidiate relief. On eyes using mostly colloidal silver. It helps but symptoms come back. TIme to get ivermectin.
