On Ivermectin Lotion 0.5% I have this but you said Cream not lotion. help ! I wont use it till you tell me ! I used it once before and it really dried up my skin a lot and I don’t like that. Could I use these two together the ivermectin lotion or cream with cream afterwards? This lotion says to leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes. oh ! it says the ivermectin lotion is for head lice & cream is for rosacea and is ivermectin cream, OTC or by prescription ? Please let me know on here. I’ll be checking.
My rosacea was caused by SIBO (small intestine bacteria overgrowth) and I cured it by taking a course of penicillin and I also quit eating coconut yogurt and quit taking a probiotic capsule everyday. My SIBO was caused by taking a probiotic capsule every morning on an empty stomach followed by a generous helping of unsweetened coconut yogurt with fruit and psyllium added. I never thought one could have too much bacteria in one's gut but I did.
The standard rosecea treatments have so far just made my skin worse. The sulphur cleanser not only smells awful but dries my skin. The azelaic acid stung and burned my face, increased redness and bumps. Derm switched me to Metronidazole, which as you say is basically worthless. I have a clean diet, don’t use alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods, almost no sugar or dairy. Very frustrating. I just purchased a red light panel and hope to see benefits from that
Try using finacea cream (azelic acid) once your skin barrier is more healthy and repaired. I have used it in the past which caused itchy stinging and burning and other times its been okay after repairing my skin barrier. Also it depends on how much your putting on, I use to put loads on my face which I think irritated it, so only use a smaller amount on the areas affected by your rosacea
I have struggled too. I've been on Soolantra for years and can't tell a difference. I was about to order a red light. I would be interested to see how yours works for you.
@@RebeccaKnows17 Hi Rebecca, I absolutely agree with you. Do you have any product recommendations for repairing the skin barrier that are very gentle for irritated skin. Many thanks
I am going to comment this to all rosacea topics: do a blood work, especially looking for markers of diseases that run in your family, check your food intolerances etc. I had eczema all on my body, the dermatologists gave me creams which only worked for a while. Turned out I have dairy intolerance. I cut it back for a year completely and my eczema dissappeared. I have had rosacea in the last 5-6 years. They told me to do laser treatment. I did a bloodwork, and finally know I have insulin resistance. First step towards diabetes. Instant cause for rosacea. No laser treatment, pills, creams will solve this problem. But I can change my diet. Much less harmful. It is easier to prescribe sth...
This is excellent advice! When I did my first elimination diet at 40 years old, eight years ago, I realized a gluten intolerance, and my puffiness and redness, significantly decreased. Now that I have developed a severe dairy intolerance, I have noticed my rosacea has gotten worse again. I also supposedly have some autoimmune disorders that are stemming from possible mast cell activation, which I am taking a new medication for. I have been prescribed ampicillin to take orally every day because I’m allergic to doxycycline, but I really hate taking antibiotics for something like this. Your comment has made me really want to do better on my diet so that my skin and the rest of my body can catch a break. Good luck to you and thank you so much for the comment!!!
@@mikochild2 how did she find out? i heard its really hard to get a lupus diagnosis. i got diagnosed with rosacea recently, but i have a lot of signs of lupus too :/
@kevin424 she found out because none of the rosacea treatments were working. After the final medication her Dr prescribed (I don't remember what it was), he said if that medicine didn't work, she needed to be checked for lupus. He referred her, and it turned out that's what she had been dealing with. The other symptoms were always assumed to be other things. Low energy, depression, arthritis, etc. She was just entering her 50s when she was diagnosed.
I have rosacea and most of the time it becomes way too mild and it literally burns my skin way too bad . Cold weather helps keep my redness away most of the time and i am 17 . It started when i was 15.
Thanks for the information. I was doxycycline but became highly allergic to it. The Rosacea has attacked my nose now and it's horrible. I live in Prince George BC Canada. I'm now using Finacea to help it.
Thank you so much for talking about the prescription creams! All the other dermatologist on RU-vid have not talked about it at all! I don’t know why my dermatologist have not prescribed any of the things you said! All the creams she prescribed caused burning on my skin! One of thrm was tacromilus, I think. I don’t understand why she doesn’t jibe what to prescribe! Thank you so much! I just saw this video on my feed and I watched the video and subscribed! 🙏🏻💖 I forgot to ask, my nose does not stop peeling no matter if I used oil, moisture or anything on my face! Would the cream that treats the mites work? Or could you recommend something else? My dermatologist has no clue!
Wish I watched this before! I used to suffer with acne but now it looks more like a mild case of papular rosacea. I heard really successful stories with metronidazole and asked my GP to let me try some. Just started but wish I've asked for ivermectin then!
Thank you for such an informative video. Just developed rosacea a couple months ago.. at age 30, and it's done a number on my self-confidence. Man, i used to love spicy food T0T
Hi guys, love this video very beneficial and helpful! So has anyone experience tingling in the face when they use rhofade?! it’s literally a miracle cream, but the tingling drives me crazy and I ivermectin is probably my favorite so far no side effects and it’s actually helping the acne calm down doxycycline gives me the most severe pain in my lower back and kind of makes me feel disoriented so I stopped taking it has anyone else experienced that with doxycycline?
Foster, if it is still around is a yellow cream that my best friend had to use on her scalp, because she had very dark brown hair, and stripped it to go blond then when reapplying the bleach next time, she stripped her hair again! She lost a lot of hair, and she was to be my maid of honor that fall. I said to her, 'You had better get some hair before fall! LOL That was a bad time, but she did laugh about her mistake of not checkung if she should or shouldn't strip her hair, which was bad. She wore a wig, and the sulphur did the trick. Her hair came back. I know she wanted to kick herself, but I told her that she would get it back in time, and she looked great.
I have tried all of these options... right through to the vbeam laser. It ruined my skin, made me flush for 10weeks plus. Currently on low dose accutane to see if that helps. Along with carrying on with Soolantra & Azelaic Acid. I hate my Rosacea with a passion!!!!!
Thank you for your video! I have visited 3 Derms since the onset of my skin condition, the initial two diagnosed it as papulopustular rosacea & due to allergies to doxy & clindamycin (even topical) my treatment options were kind of limited. I was initially given Soolantra (Ivermectin) which made my skin a lot worse with consistent breakouts. It was far too heavy for me as I already have oily skin. Metronidazole helped a bit with inflammation but didn't get rid of the bumps. I then started on Azelaic Acid & it had been my go to for the last couple of years but still didn't stop my break outs & only just helped keep my oils a little more at bay. Within that time frame I also underwent 1 V Beam treatment but as it made me feel queasy due to the swelling for a couple of days, I stopped at one session. A year or so on, I have still been struggling with the breakouts despite my Azelaic Acid 15-20% routine (here in Australia it's available over the counter in those strengths) I have now just recently seen a new Derm who has diagnosed me with adult acne (most likely brought on by perimenopause in my mid to late 40's). The new Dermatologist has started me on tret & I have thus far only used it once as it frightens me! What if my condition is actually Rosacea & not Adult acne & the tretinoin completely irritates my skin? I was told to use it every other evening after a gentle cleanser but was told not to use any moisturiser & to only wash my face with water in the AM & apply sunscreen in the morning & again throughout the day. I can't bring myself to only washing with water in the morning... it feels so wrong as I have suffered from oily skin my entire life & every you tube video that is about tret other than your retinoid vid says to start off slow like once a week & make sure you use a sandwich method of moisturiser to help lessen irritation? Eeeeeek... how do I tackle this? Prior to tret I did try Epiduo for two nights & my skin felt swollen & itchy from it therefore I stopped it & it took a good couple of days for my skin to calm down, so what hope do I have using tretinoin??? I'm so down about the state of my skin at the moment & so desperate to curb these break outs... have you any advice please? My skin type is more predominantly oily however extremely sensitive.
I’m on a ivermectin cream (soolantra) for 5 months now and it worked ok with the redness, but the pimples always come back. I use for that a sulfur mask and it kinda helps with that.. Does anybody have experience with reducing the annoying pimples that give a horrible texture?
I wonder what has caused those demodex mites to appear in the first place? I got rosacea after a huge stress in my life, does it mean there is a connection?
Dr. Syed, can I also have your recommendation on treating rosacea. I have quite severe Papulopustar Rosacea, and just few days ago I went to doctor and she prescribed me doxycyclinum antibiotics with metronidazol cream. But, I still think about laser IPL treatment, but I'm not sure if I should wait till antibiotics treatment is over or it is fine to go straight to laser at the same time in the beginning? I understand that she didn't say me to go to Laser because of its price and that it is not covered by insurance, but I can afford it for my-self, I'm only concerned if antibiotics with laser at the same time makes sense at all. E.g. that antibiotics most probably will treat it just as well as laser do, but in my case for free, or e.g. antibiotics will treat it only short-term and partially and I will have to go to laser in any case in future. Any of these scenarious can affect my decision quite dramatically, if you get what I mean :) Thanks you very much in advance!!!
I'm really happy that I found an honest dermatologist in RU-vid that makes the complicated skincare world much more simple and clear. I have combination skin and I mainly struggle with hyperpigmentation and acne (along side with blackheads, whiteheads, logged pores, etc). You already did a video for acne which was so useful and educational. You explained the problem so well and gave a list of solutions to it with explanation which I really loved. Kindly make another video for hyperpigmentation too if possible. I really need your help on that.
@@SilviaHoard I double cleanse with Clinique Take Off The Day balm and then Cerave hydrating face wash. I've never had a problem removing it. It isn't thick like dermablend.
One key point for me I noticed is that "Salicilic Acid" causes my redness. I have acne prone skin and Salicylic acid is said to be good to avoid acnes so I started to use Salicylic Acid Serum only to get a red face as if i was sunburnt.. Its funnier because it took me far too long to realise the redness was caused by the serum and not just the Sun.
First of all 🎖 This is the first time I watched one of your videos. Love the humour, but even better is the way you explain everything. I've had rosacea crisis before, but here in Portugal, family physicians don't really pay attention to it. Mine told me what it was and thats that. No treatment, no advice. Eventually it passed for a while. Now I'm back at it.... but because it is not an extreme case, I'm going to try the sulfur and azelaic acid, and go from there.
I just had pulsed dye laser done today. At U.P.M.C. in Pittsburgh. I have it done several times in past years. AND,THANKFULLY, MY INSURANCE PAYS FOR IT !!!!
I would like to know more about the connection with the gut microbiome. My rosacea appeared after my gallbladder was removed when I was 40. My skin had never been sensitive prior.
I had rosacea previously with my pregnancies 2017-2021 , my derm was able to control it and I changed my diet... In 2022 I got my gallbladder removed and suddenly a few days ago it came back, I had to admit I had a week of eating a bit of cheese every day.. but it could have been a build- up.
Hey I noticed you didnt point out vascular rosacea. Would you recommend laser treatment for that? Im a white male btw. My cheeks are almost normal at rest and they get super red when doing exercise, sun exposure, food, etc...
Wow I can't believe you just posted that, I have been searching ROSACEA for the last hour because i've had redness on my cheeks for years (which seems to be more visible after la roche posay cicaplast baume b5 50 spf) thank you so much for your content
Hi Dr. Syed, You probably won’t ever see this, but I’m a new sub! You got me hooked with the videos about the skincare industry being a scam and Korean skincare being overhyped. I’m trying to create my perfect routine. I’m 27 female. I’ve had oily, acne prone, sensitive skin and rosacea as long as I can remember. I’m pretty sure it’s highly dependent on diet, which I’m working on cleaning up. I currently use a LRP toleraine foaming cleanser, which I like a lot. It feels even better than the Vanicream one to me, which was my go to for years. They both foam but are gentle. The “gentle, no foaming” creamy ones I tried like CeraVe and Cetaphil don’t work well on me. I feel like there’s a film left on my skin and it doesn’t feel tight or dry, but definitely like I cleansed with Albolene or Ponds and didn’t cleanse afterward😂 Thanks for all of your videos and advice! You’re the best!!
Hi Dr Syed. Great video. Lots of things online suggest laser therapy needs to be done on a repeat basis. Do you have any studies/evidence that it’s only needed a few times in a lifetime? Is it specifically for type 1 Rosacea? Thank you!
I’ve had to have many v beam laser treatments going on 2 years now. I’ve had one about every 4-6 months. It has helped with the extreme redness and the enlarged blood vessels.
I have mild Rosacea controlled with an Rx sulfur wash. One day I tried the Vanicream gentle cleanser. Wow, dried out my oily skin and felt so irritated.
I had 3 IPL treatments. They charged $250 each or 3 for $600 (Ontario Canada). I am less than two weeks out from my final treatment and I can't believe how much better my skin looks!
I developed rocesea during COVID due to wearing mask. I had redness and acne on cheeks and eczema like condition. Dr's 20/ Azelic Acid worked but didn't cure situation. Only think really worked was DeLa Cruz sulphur cream cheap ordered on internet. Within 2 weeks acne cleared and redness reduced. My cheeks still often become cheeks if I eat anything which has sugar, coffee chocolate. I only apply azelic cream along with vitamin 6 cream from La Roche. I had bought a redness relief called calm for £10 but didn't work. I am trying to build my skin barrier to deal with redness. If skin barrier is built then redness should go. Although, redness is not as bad as it used to be. I think it was mice related because I used same mask without changing it. And dust mites entered my face.
I am happy to be able to watch it with Turkish subtitles, there are 2 dermatology professors in my family, but I could not find a cure for Rosacea, but I will research and strive more for the treatment of my acne rosacea, Thank you Doctor 🩵 Love from Turkey 🇹🇷
@@usamasyed I thought I would leave these recommendations/tips I have gathered over the years here, so it might be helpful to others; especially for people without insurance or cannot afford to visit a derm. I have type 1 and 2 Rosacea. I originally come from India and moved to the United States around 5 years ago. I strongly believe that the drastic change in weather conditions, going from a super humid climate to an extremely dry one, contributed to the degradation of my skin barrier. In short, I ignored the problem for a while and even got misdiagnosed with acne. However, I eventually realized that I was actually dealing with rosacea acne. 1. Ivermectin, the drug, is quite expensive, with a brand name called Soolantra costing around $500, and it's often prescribed by dermatologists. If this cost is a barrier, consider consulting an online dermatology service providers (there are many available; I chose Apostrophe). I obtained my topical combination (15% Azelaic Acid, 1% Metronidazole, and 1% Ivermectin) for $75. 2. Finacea (15% Azelaic Acid), is also a name brand that is both prescription only AND super expensive. Wish I'd known this years ago; but Dermatica is the only website that I know of, in the US; where you can order 20% Azelaic Acid without prescription for $25 and $5 shipping. Also, a super hydrating formulation with Squalane and Glycerin. 3. Sulphur, which is probably the only OTC product to show any relief; is the easiest to find. De la Cruz Sulfur ointment (you can find this on amazon) is available in both 5% and 10%(maximum strength) for under $15. This is the least irritating formulation for me. Most of the other sulfur products I have tried have kaolin clay and way less sulfur

Best video on RU-vid thank you, I really do hope you could answer this: there seems to be a new "patented" wonder serum called Osmosis Rescue, I'm sure you've heard of it, they brand it specifically also for rosacea and I was wondering if you have any knowledge about it, a red flag to me is these serums costs 150+ US dollar but I see allot of good reviews on it and also they claim it is scientific backed up and patented serum. Do you know anything about this?

Hey Dr. Syed, as someone who struggled immensely with acne and skin care in general, your channel is an absolute Godsend and I appreciate your humble nature in providing factual skin care videos without the marketing BS as a lot of other "dermatology" channels do. I was wondering if you could make a video on controversial ingredients like methylparaben, sodium laureth sulfate, propylene glycol, methylchloroisothialinone and many others as I've done my own research and couldn't come up with a definitive answer to whether or not these ingredients are safe or not. Much appreciated!

Hi Dr Usama Syed, I'm a 35 year old female and a few years ago out of no where my skin erupted with tiny red bumps in clusters all around my mouth. My skin also felt very textured so I was using a micro exfoliant which I had used for several years without any issue. My skin felt like it was on fire. I was given some sensitive skin products to try which somewhat helped but didn't get rid of it completely. I tried doxycycline, but it didn't get rid of it completely. My GP said he thought it might be a form of rosacea so I went to a dermatologist. The dermatologist said it's a 'form of acne' and prescribed me low dose Roaccutane, which did clear it up. I said to him the bumps are all uniform and feel kind of itchy and benzol peroxide made it worse. Still he insisted it was a form a acne. I believe it is acne rosacea as my skin is very sensitive, which was never the case. I asked him what to do if it returned and he said to use AZ lotion (which contains azelaic acid OTC). But I was never really told how else to manage this. I've had to switch out my cleansers for gentle milk/cream cleansers and pretty much just use a moisturiser as I've had bad reactions to various products. My question is what is a good non physical exfoliant? I use a gentle papaya enzyme mask once a week now but even when I gently wash it off with a face cloth this irritates my skin and I'm left with tiny red bumps all over my face. I feel I need some exfoliant but I really haven't found much advice on what to use when you have acne rosacea.
It's this...THIS exact humour of yours that got me into skincare Dr. Usama. And not to mention, your feverishly good looks 🎉😚😅 GREAT content as always, thank you Dr.
For cleaning : Cetaphil micelar emulsion CREAM: Soolantra (only prescroption) Vitamin PP (also only prescroption) Daily sunblock I waved goodbye my 20 years of rosacea 🌷🌷🌷
Hi you didn't touch much on treatment specifically for people with ocular rosacea? what are the best treatments for that? Who diagnoses that and opthamologist or a derm?
CeraVe has an amazing hydrating gentle cleanser and amazing moisturizer lotion/cream. Both contain Hyaluronic Acid and packed with 3 essential ceramides. Their PM moisturizer contains niacinamide as well as ceramides. I highly recommend them as while their prices may be around 15-20$, they last for a few months at a time. I think the total cost for a year with just the cleanser and moisturizer would only be around 200-250$.
Hello Dr. I just subscribed in the hopes that you will do another rosacea video. I’m newly diagnosed and I found this helpful in some ways. Perhaps an updated version. I’m looking to heal my facial skin barrier and support that microbiome. I’m not adverse to prescriptions, but that would be my last resort. I also see some pretty expensive products out there, and I’m looking for affordable everyday products if they exist. My head tells me that paying excessive amounts for magic creams is not the way to go here. So, please do more on this topic, from what I can tell there are so many of us dealing with this condition.
I had two IPL sessions against the redness and I am using adapalene gel against the Rosacea papules and postules. I am so so happy with my skin now. I have tried metronidazol and also ivermectin. First one gave me itchy skin and second one helps against papules but not the other. The adapalene is making my overall skin better and helps with the hyperpigmentation from inflammation that I had. I wanted to try azelaic acid from the beginning but my derm refused to prescribe it to me.
🎉 i started using a moisturizing oil called boost by Paula's choice under my moisturizer after a calming toner. It's helped so much in repairing the skin barrier and reducing redness
Great information ! I have both ocular and type 1 rosacea with very sensitive, dry skin. It’s hard to know sometimes what to put on my face. Keeping track of my rosacea triggers is very helpful. For example chocolate doesn’t seem to bother me,unlike strong vanilla (like natural bourbon vanilla ) which do🌹
I have a question about your ocular rosacea? I have styes that appear on the inside of my eyelids and I also have bloodshot eyes most days. Is that what yours is like? And did you see an ophthalmologist or dermatologist to get that diagnosis?
Nothing prescribed has worked. It's hard to find cruelty free OTC products. Sometimes i have a lot of luck with a product and then suddenly my skin gets angry and i have a long flare. I'm going back to my roots and trying rose water. 🤞
I have extremely oily skin on top of having papulopustular rosacea. Would using a cleanser meant for oily skin, like La Roche-Posay's toleriane Purifying Foaming Facial Cleanser, be more harmful than good? If so, how can I manage all the oil production while not aggravating my rosacea and pustules??
Hi Dr. Syed, yes, I subscribed! I was diagnosed with rosacea in my late 20s, shortly after my mother was diagnosed in her late 40s. I had laser surgery in the mid 90s, and it worked very well. I don't remember what it cost, but the insurance I was on then covered most of the cost. However, the redness eventually did come back. The best solution I've found for redness is a compounded prescription of 15% azelaic acid, 1% metronidazole, and 1% ivermectin in a lotion base. My dermatologist did prescribe a leave on product with sulfur, but my skin wouldn't tolerate it. I peeled like crazy. I also take spironolactone to treat folliculitis on my scalp and breakouts around my hairline. I was a daily sunscreen user even before I was diagnosed. But a few years ago, I got to where I just couldn't deal with the white cast from mineral sunscreens, and I went back to chemical sunscreens. As far as I could tell, my facial skin was OK with that. However, this year, I decided to try a tinted mineral sunscreen, and I'm not seeing a white cast from it. So I'm going to keep using it. My dermatologist has told me not to use retinol or masks or have facials. I haven't specifically asked about AHA or BHA products, but a few months ago, I used up what I had and haven't bought more. The products were a very low percentage of the active ingredients, but I'm not going to resume them until I've talked to my dermatologist about them.15% azelaic acid twice a day may be as much of an active ingredient as I should use. For anyone who's using a leave on sulfur product at night , be aware that it can stain your sheets! And the smell can be pretty bad.
