You are not alone. Maiden in Black, Nexus, Astrea, and Tower Knight, Slumber were great in the original. I would like Demon's Souls Remake to be on PC so we can mod switch the music! Flame Lurker is probably the only song where I'm mixed. The new one sounds empowering,.
@@yharnamiyhill787 That it’s empowering is a problem. The original set a nihilistic tone. It was a dirge, the announcement of your inevitable demise at his hands and burning rage, reducing you to ashes.
@@theatheistbear3117 unfortunately the culture is different now. The remake producers did not see the relationship between music and the settings.... It shouldn't be empowering to the player, but give homage to the enemy boss itself.
@@theatheistbear3117 I actually think it’s good that the new soundtrack has a more empowering tone. I don’t see it as the composer simply missing the mark, but the composer acknowledging that the original soundtrack focused more on the horror/creepy side of the story and telling the more heroic side instead. While I would have liked the remake’s soundtrack to be a more modern telling of that same horror vibe the original had, I’m certainly not complaining.
Well, you’ve found yourself a Demon’s Soul, have you? I’m impressed…yes, indeed I am. Stay the path, and you will soon be a monster yourself! Hahahahahah! Can’t you see you’ve fallen for their trap?
Demon's Souls soundtrack is so unique compared to the souls games that came after it, there's nothing quite like it. It perfectly resonates with the game's excellent atmosphere and is one of the many reasons why I adore its soundtrack. Definitely my favorite out of all souls games, this track in particular stuck with me when it played during the credits.
They called me crazy, contrarian, nostalfag when I used to say that this OST was vastly superior to Dark`s OST ... Of course that all Souls games had great OSTs but some of those tracks are pretty generic and plain boring, Demon`s OST is absolutley perfect. Tailor made.
The only one that matched and surpassed it was Bloodborne. After I played Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro and then coming for the first time to Demon's Souls... let's say it's an important game.
This song makes me legitimately sad. It makes me feel like a scumbag even without playing Demons Souls myself, I'm not sure why it makes me feel so bad, but it has definitely done it's purpose well being the ending song of the "Evil Ending."
This and "Return to Slumber" share the same base melody, but while the other becomes a slow lullaby, this goes into a harmony in a lower key that's darker and more chaotic.
A little tit bit from the game. The reason why we couldn't go to where the 6th arch-stone would have taken us (the land of giants) is because we were already there. The Nexus hangs above it like a pendulum, and the final level itself where the Old One arises from the ocean is on the beached shores of the Land of Giants, which makes sense, since that is where the demons invasion started, and why the Old One makes it's home there.
@@rustedcake879 it's not a remaster. It's a full on remake. There's a pretty clear difference. In remastered they just tend to upscale the graphics slightly compared to the original while adding some potential bug fixes if needed. A remake is when the game is literally being rebuilt from the ground up with a new engine. Perfect example is the shadow f the colosus remake.
@@thewolfking3054 Hope it turns out well. Like with any video game these days I will wait before I buy. I do hope they get rid of the Grade system tho, that thing was a blight on the classic version. No matter how good you are some jerks are always going to grade you low.
@@rustedcake879 I also hope they get rid of item burden. It's such a nightmare in the original demon souls when you come across a good item but aren't able to take it because you've already got too much
@@thewolfking3054 Agreed it's pretty annoying. Thankfully I know a way to reduce both burdens from the start. In level 1-1 find the Jade hair pin & then give it to stockpile Thomas (he needs to tell you of his family first). Also in 1-1 there is a ring to raise equip load. It's under the green dragon tail, lure the red dragon to the bridge & then sprint to the green one. Once you step within range the Green dragon will try to 1 hit kill with a tail swipe, simply roll backwards & once he misses, snag the ring & take cover on the lower ledge.
This is by far the superior version. The remake version is a good song in its own right but to be completely honest it isn't this song. It's entirely its own thing. It tries to expand on the melody way too much and ends up losing the simplicity that made the original so impactful. The slow piano and swooping violin melodies are what make it haunting and melancholic but they're all but drowned out in the remake with complex additions and chorus. They tried too hard and ended up with an entirely different song.
It happened for all of them. Only the king Allant remake ended up improving, bit that's only if you've played the original to recognize the original maiden in black theme that the song is based off of. Which they completely changed for the remake, so now the song ends up being a reference to a song NO LONGER IN THE GAME.
@@deathahoy8971 It's not a good thing, it's tragic. The original Demon's Souls has been stripped of its online features and will remain confined in the PS3 forever, while the american knock-off will be carried to the future. I would have preferred no remakes or remasters at all over this.
This song alone defines Demon’s Souls’ lofty, melancholy mood and should be what the remake strives to encapsulate and build upon. They seemed to have missed out on so many important musical subtleties. Terrible shame.
Same, the original uplifts the melancholy moods; they still stay quiet, isolated...low; it never feels like the score is inspiring your victory, or lifts you out of the sinking swamps (the original tracks feel like you're looking up, maybe in hopelessness or tangarity, the original feels like it's trying to lift you out of that location); like, take Maiden Asteria's theme; hopeless, in the remake they've turned it into some sort of "epic" assuring Orchestral piece, inspiring you to fight Garl Vinland; it's supposed to invoke the opposite, make you question your morality. The remake ruined the tone.
Though dark as it is, I always considered the "evil" ending to be canonical. Feels like a fitting way to end the world of Demon's Souls, achieving the power to grind it to dust and start anew, albeit with a far more sinister undertone than, say, the fading fire endings of Dark Souls. Gah, this game's so good...
On a slightly unrelated note, I also find it to be an oddly fitting metaphor for the current fanbase of the series. I don't think neither Miyazaki or Fromsoft expected the game to spawn a whole new sub genre of games as well as become as popular and iconic as they now have. Yet people crave Souls games (and Souls likes) these days and this particular Demon's Souls ending with the line "Bring more souls!" feels more fitting than ever (while also feeling like some sort of ominous foreshadowing of what was to come).
I also think the "evil" ending as canonical, because that was what the purpose of God was all along, from the very beginning: wipe out his creation due to human malice, through the Old One. However, there's no indicative that there'll be any restart after this ending. Just... it all ends.
@@genarovargas5661 Well, who knows. I like to think that the Old One is this game’s equivalent to the Great Flood, where God’s wrath wipes out humanity to start again, and this is the story of that event as it unfolds thousands of years later. After the Old One fulfills its purpose, who knows what happens next. Does humanity restart? Do demons take Earth? Is this all secretly a prequel to Doom?! Kidding. But I do find it interesting that God apparently created the Old One and Northern Regalia. Maybe the God in Demon’s Souls is a lot more wrathful toward humanity, and this really is supposed to be their divine extinction.
@@paris-1911 I do think it's an analogy to the Great Flood, too. However, remember that in that myth, God originally planned to wipe out the entire humanity, but it was Noah's faith and good actions what made him choose to wipe out all but Noah and his family
@@genarovargas5661 True, though I'm talking more on Demon's Souls God instead of Christian God, and it seems like the God in the game acts with more wrath and absolution, otherwise I don't think he would've created the Old One (the irrevocable poison). Though, if we wanna keep the analogy to the story of Noah's Ark, maybe it's not far fetched to say that God commands his followers of good faith to, similarly, save themselves from the Demons so that humanity can flourish again.
This song feels like “what have i done?” Or “was it really worth it?” it has a massive repentance and emotional feeling, I’ll be using it for a presentation video about WWII for my history class, If I remember then I’ll come back to this comment and keep y’all updated.
The approach was extremely orchestral and formulaic for the remake (which is a good thing, but very different from the original), so they decided to follow the basic classical music rules of spannungs and build-ups. Props to them, but this banger's still the one in my heart.
I hope they keep the original OST for the original demon's souls in the remake, I mean, I'd like it to be altered a little bit, but this song in the remake would be fantastic.
Did you play Demon’s Souls with your father? Souls games are a huge huge connection between my father and I, I can really relate to that. Unfortunate to hear that yours is no longer with us my friend, dearest condolences.
@@AttiMatter no he passed away before I even played this game. But if it wasn't for him and his love of classical music I wouldn't be here to enjoy this gorgeous piecei can see him enjoying this song. But thank you man.😢
This is the prime example of less is more, the remake in a vain attempt outdo the original got bloated with a myriad of different instruments and vocals to compensate, safe to say they failed because it sounds exactly as it does, overproduced and bloated
I get what you’re saying but I do not agree at all. Both versions are good in their own right, I do agree with that the general ost in the original was better but saying it’s overproduced or bloated is disingenuous
@@eternalblessing4984 it ain't really being nostalgia ridden. Remake ost is great, but, despite being more complex music, it doesn't fit demon's souls atmosphere as much as the original score
@@pantarei3446 I actually agree with you. I personally think the original ost was better but it feels extremely disingenuous to just disregard everything the remake does
@@soul_of_a_hero Yeah, some people feel really passionate about it and go to the other extreme. I prefer the original as well so I get the sentiment behind the hysteria, especially since some of the changes made by the remake are really beyond bizzare, but it tends to be a bit too much tbh
One day a big mist took the majestic world of Boletaria. Since then lots of heroes and villains tried to fight through the demons that appeared and end the mist, but they all were defeated. When all remaing hope disappeared while terror despair took the whole world, someone appeared: Known as the Slayer of Demons, they pierced through the mist to begin their journey. Is it because they are the one who will save Boletaria from the chaos it is? The one that will make their inhabitants have hope again that they can have a happy ending? Is it because they want to satisfy their bloodlust, absorbing the souls of the most powerful demons and become the strongest demon ever made? You decide, playing as the Slayer of Demons. I have an idea: Dragon's Souls. Seeings that a large part of the Dark Souls Lore extended around dragons... why not? Plus I'm kinda pumped after fighting Kalameet in AotA.
@@Kmi_Sama I'd say it is still worth saying what's on your mind. Either they could come back around, or someone else could be potentially enlightened by your thoughts. What were you gonna say?
Anyone else feel like the remake didn't capture the emptiness of this song? This was so profoundly heavy for me in the original. It's my favorite song in any souls game and I just don't feel it in the remake version. The music is beautiful, don't get me wrong! It just doesn't capture the essence for me.
"Life" in a nutshell. "Those who fight monsters should be careful, lest they become one... For when you gaze into the Abyss, the Abyss also gazes into you..."
Atakan Arıkan this quote is most fitting for the abyss watchers of dark souls 3 , as their only goal Is to ensure the abyss never acts again . I don’t know the lore all that good this is all I could understand after playing the game.
“It seems like there was a misunderstanding in a previous interview in relation to a remake or a remastering of the game, so let me reiterate here,” Miyazaki told GameSpot. “The Dark Souls series is Bandai Namco Entertainment’s IP, and Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne is Sony Interactive Entertainment’s IP. Hence, the decision to do a remake or remastering is under their jurisdiction. For me and for From Software, I don’t think we’ll be involved with their happening, but it could happen through another developer.”
+The Great Zoom That was his opinion. my favorite in order is: 1: Dark Souls 2: Demon's Souls 3: BloodBorne 4: Dark Souls ll (I still haven't played "Dark Souls lll" I will sometime)
+The Great Zoom Objectively speaking Bloodborne is the most inspired, complete and consistently good out of all the souls games. Dark Souls 1 falls apart midway through after Anor Londo, Dark Souls 3 relies too much in references to the past games and Dark Souls 2 is Dark Souls 2. Demon souls has also aged.
+Christian Alfaro When making a sequel, you are obviously going to have references to previous games. I think they stepped up the references in DS3 since DS2 had almost no connection to the first game. I also don't see the problem with references as long as your new stuff is interesting and memorable (unlike a certain game from 2010 that shall not be names). Bloodborne also isn't consistently good throughout as there are bosses people agree aren't that great as well as some who say the game is style over substance. Basically all of the games are flawed in their own ways. Especially DS2.
Best sountracks in the Souls series Maiden Astrea(Demon's Souls) One who craves Souls(Demon's Souls) Gwyn Theme(Dark Souls) Demon's Souls (Demon's Souls) Sif theme ( Dark Souls) Ladies and gentlemen, one of the best sountracks in gaming.
AboutThisLong There are defenetly some amazing tracks in bloodborne... The thig is, the bosses are always screaming or exploding so much and it's so intense that it's hard to listen to if you don't put the music setting up.
DS3 and Bloodborne's soundtracks have the advantage of a live orchestra, though. DeS didn't have that level of budget. Imagine it all redone without the synthetic stuff.. Our ears would explode.
Squee36 Some tracks had live vocals*, the rest had better live sampling than the other Souls games had. (Bloodborne had a live orchestra as paid for by Sony) *"Return To Slumber"(Demon's Souls) and "Nameless Song"(Dark Souls) also had live vocals. I'm not sure whether or not "Longing", the credits theme to Dark Souls 2 had it, though. In Dark Souls 3, the "Epilogue" and the main menu themes had live vocals(solo for the Epilogue, and the menu theme sounds a lot like the choirs are live, too). What I meant by "having the advantage of a live orchestra" was a bit poorly worded. I meant DS3 had better samples for the rest of the tracks. The samples used in DS1 and 2 were good, and were used with talent, but DS3 had better ones. Demon's Souls with those samples* would have been awesome, although I still feel DeS has a subtle difference to the style of brass used. Then again, different composer.
ThatOneGuitarGuy 98 dark souls soundtrack was bad it didn't have the uniqueness it needed to be as good as demons and that's what makes a soundtrack amazing look at ds3 and bloodbourne
Vuncent Jools Weird stuff... Reaper Titan Nah, I can exclue that since I always had either white or neutral Character Tendency. Only what you do at the END of the game changes the ending... and supposedly changes the credit song as well. But even though my first playthrough was good ending... still, this.

@Tiredofdumbfuks they just had a very accademic approach to it, following classical music canons as much as they could. Made it very different from the original (and the original's much better to my tastes)
