Hi Alvin... great video explaining I2S!! One thing you explained was In-Phase test signal should sound down the middle / in the center from two channel speaker output. You played back Out-Of-Phase test signal, but I did not hear you say how it should sound coming from left/right two channel speaker output. Please advise what correct Out-Of-Phase sound output should sound like... thank you 😊.
What is needed today are multi-channel DACs with HDMI input to play SACDs processed by the Sony UBP-X800M2. This is the bottom-line, since the X800 is the ONLY means today for multi-channel SACD pleasure.
Thanks for the clear explanation. I now own the Pontus 2 + Hermes. I configured both to the 000 mode for I2s. In this configuration both pcm and dsd can't go wrong, or do I miss something. I don't own dsd music so I can't test this right now. Thanks Jakob
hello Alvin, congratulations for the video you are fantastic, but I won't forget the opportunity you gave me to have a Denafrips pre amplifier Athena I'm very happy with the performances. I strongly recommend the seriousness of Mr Alvin and Denafrips to everyone. BEST regards.
Hello Alvin, nice to put a face on your name, since we previously communicated via e-mail on numerous occasions. Thank you for this fine video which timing is appropriate, since I will be placing my order for the Hermes DDC next week. The configuration of the Hermes/Pontus is pretty straightforward. Is the I2S setup the same for the T+ DAC (0,0,0) as the Pontus? Thanks, Daniel
Hi! with all the uncertainty that surrounds i2S cables, is there a cable brand that you would specifically recommend? one that you know, will, without any doubt, work with the Hermes and Pontus. Thank you.
@@VinshineAudio Thank you Alvin for your recommendation. I certainly will when the time comes for me to get the Hermes for my Pontus II, which I think will be soon :)
I would love to see an I2S input into the DDC with an option to change the I2S pinout. This would also help to fix compatibility problems between a source and a DAC that only supports one specific I2S pinout like Gustard R26.
Thanks for the suggestion! DENAFRIPS Hermes and Gaia DDC’s i2s pin out is configurable. This may fix the compatibility of the i2s with third party DAC.
@@VinshineAudio Not really because none of them does provide an I2S input. My CDT does only provide an I2S output but not an USB output which is needed for Hermes ans Gaia.
Thank you Alvin, can you tell me if i need a reclocker between my MacBook pro and the Pontus 2, also, do you plan on issuing a silver version of the more affordable unit? Best regards, much respect. Francois.
Greetings De Audiofilos and Locos. I also have an Oppo bdp 83. Do you have the 83 going directly to a Denafrips DAC? If so, can you share the setting that worked (000, 001, etct)? I am trying to get the I2S connection to a Pontus II with an HDMI cable I have available. I wish there was a list of HDMI cables that do work with I2S as that part is an unknown.
@@richardrios7362 you need a box from eBay that costs $50. It extracts the dsd into i2s format, you cannot connect directly from the transport to the dac, because of the built in copyright protection. I have a video about it in my channel.

I just purchased the Ares II knowing it does not have the I2s connection because the Pontus II is a bit of a reach. The British Audiophile on RU-vid has a great video on the use and benefits of a Denafrips DDC/Pontus II and he is much easier to understand despite the British accent. His video is in fact the reason i went with the Denafrips Ares II. The long and short of it is the I2s connection is way undervalued and companies "have" to start using this type of connection for improved sonics. My understanding is the DDC components are of little value without a I2s connection since RCA's offer only a small noticeable improvement. Perhaps Denafrips can incorporate a "work around" since manufactures will lag behind until audiophiles demand they use a I2s and drop an optical connection in favor of the I2s or something to that effect. However, i am only too happy to watch Alvin's videos for the sake of learning and knowing he has made a path to advance some great performers to the USA. Having said that I think he needs to treat his room to control echo and maybe practice before filming, (for the record i am not Alvin bashing). He is leaps and bounds ahead of me in all respects connected to audio.
Hello 👋 I have a question if anyone can answer it. I have a pontus ii. The specs already state that audio is buffered and reclocked inside the pontus using its own crystal oscillator. What is the benefit of using another ddc on top? Does it contain better components or is there some other reason to use it?
