I could hear a difference with my setup. The song without Ares 12th DAC with Iris DDC. The first take of the song was muddied with the female voice not separated with the guitar and other instruments. With the second take using equipment I hear the music expand a bit wider, the women singing is not drowned out by instruments. I did not need the headphones, great vid I may look into getting Iris DDC. Thanks

Hi Tharbamar thank you for another honest and informative video. I have an Ares II and was interested in your comment that when combined with an Iris can tame upper end brightness. My Ares II is connected to a Wiim Pro Streamer via toslink. Should I use toslink to input into the Iris, and from the Iris into the Ares, or will it make an improvement to use digital coaxial? Thank you in advance for your reply.

The Denafrips Iris DDC has only USB input. You can’t use WiiM Pro toslink output with the Iris DDC.

Use a good I2S cable like theWireworld, decent power cords ,not stock isa must And asi mentioned a Big upgrade fuse the Hifi tuning copper on the Iris and synergistic purple on thearies22 A huge upgrade togetherbetterthen the pontus which the Iris has a muchbetterTemp controlled clock

I am doing the Ares-Iris combo because I do not have the desk space. I am going to hook the devices to my gaming rig. The computer is an all Asus Rog unit I put together with an Asus 4090 card in it . I game and listen to music on my computer. I use the Sennbeiser HD 800 S and Focal Stellia for over ears and Empire Ears Odin for my IEM. Bought a JDS labs Element III in the interim period and hooked it up to a Topping A 90 amp . After a 100 hours burn in period the Sennheiser, JDS Labs and Topping are starting to become warm and three dimensional on games. Might even make a video of the whole rig and post it .

The only thing that killed that for hdmi out for Tv oled etc is that they supported wireless and blue tooth and optical out. Wanting you to buy that.Eliminating serious audio. Ask the guys that bought Meridian hd621 2018

One thing to mention I did much testing by putting in synergistic purple in the aries12 and zhifi tuning copper fuse on the Iris a substantial upgrade in someways bettter then the new pontus morefiltering and better overcontrolled clock ,no reviewer did this but me 2.5amp slow blow fuses 20mm

Hi I currently got the Pontus II with the eversolo dmp-a6. I’m using usb out into the Pontus II then rca into my anthem avm70 processor. Do you think it’s worth getting the iris ddC?

I use a Pink Faun USB Bridge with my Denafrips Gaia clock-synced to the Terminator-Plus. The card (especially with the Ultra OCXO Clock and the UpTone Audio JS-2 external Linear Power Supply) did far more improvement to the sound than the Gaia by itself. The JCAT cards should be excellent for your computer audio system.

I listen to focal clear mg headphones. I was using blue sound node 2i. I first added an external headphone amp. Big improvement. Then i added Aries 12, another huge improvement. You mentioned the ddc if streaming. But the ddc isn’t a streamer, i asked vinshine if the ddC if i would benefit from the ddC, they said, not unless i am streaming from a computer. What do you think…

Thanks for excellent review. I recently bought IRIS DDC and tried to connect to ares DAC 12-1 by I2S. I tried several HDMI cables that could be useful for I2S connection, but non of them success. Which cable do you use ?

Have you tried the ifi purifier from your USB to whatever output you want... they work well. Plug it into the computer

@@Tharbamar yeah it works well You might like to try the micro iUSB 3 a few hundred pounds more, but that's supposed to be better I think it has more emphasis on reclocking the signal not just noise reduction.

Hello Tharbamar! Thanks again for the great video! Could you give me light on this 2 questions? 1- do you think the combination of Ares ii with the ddc can compete with the Pontus or the Gustard R26? 2-Have you tried the new FPGA chip update for the Ares II? I have on mine and I think it’s incredible, the difference it’s really noticeable, on all aspects. Would love to know your opinion. Thanks so much and best wishes from Mexico, as always!

Hi, it should be close enough because Ares 2 and 12th is just slightly different in transparency before the updates but I haven't tried them back to back after the update.

did you try aes at delta sigma dacs? i²s is like you said...dry, thin...not realy nice to listen to. today my venus 2 12th arrived❤❤❤. even out of box it isnt that bad! i use my gustard u18 with it...but i dont get thw right i²s setting on the venus...it doesnt work for dsd and pcm...only one at the time can be right....hmmm maybe i switch my ddc to the iris...or even the hermes ddc

I have had my Venus II 12th for a few days, just upgraded the power supply in my Mac mini, will let you know what happens when I add the Iris DDC to the mix. I'm using the same Oyaide USB cable and Oyaide Black Mamba power cords that Tharbamar is using. Should be interesting.

@@michaelwright1602 i stream from a ifi zen streamer to my gustard u18 wich worked perfectly fine with the schumann ladder dac...but with venus it didnt...but i mostly listen to pcm. dsd streaming is not that often. than i can switch to aes input...but its without remote control...still no remote😒.3500€ and no remote... i tried all modi which worked for pcm and than all that wirked for dsd...nt one works at both data types...i dont get it. manual says it shoud be the pinout like number 5 and gustard mode...nope doesnt. something is different. its like scrstching noises at bass at pc or a constant scratchng at dsd

@@heinzbecker691Still playing around with mine, tore everything out and redid the electrical and some other things. I bought a NetGear 108 ethernet switch, with its internal filtering made a very very noticeable difference in SQ. May want to give it a look. The i2s, at least on Denafrips is the PS Audio standard. I have read of there with Gustard gear having to have special cables made do to the pinout issue. Agree on the remote.

@@michaelwright1602 i bought the advanced power suply from ifi for the streamer and my router. for cables i went pretty crazy. All out norodost...pretty good step up from a normal usb cable. its like you are adding a ddc by just using a heimdall 2 usb cable. my router got a heimdall 2 etgernet cable to the ifi, for the ifi its the heimdall 2 usb cable and than from the ddc there are 2 cables. Heimdall 2 aes and a nordost blue heaven hdmi cable. i dont think that there are special hdmi cable for i²s...because the pin layout goes for the pins 1-19. They are always the same. But im not sure...

@@heinzbecker691 I'm running LHY linear power supplies on all of my small gear. I have the new Pi2 Mercury V2 streamer, and a 2018 Mac mini.The one purchase that made a huge difference was the NetGear network switch, the 108 enhanced 8 port. Much to do on this switch in regards to the filtering for AV gear. Worth a look for $40.
