Dendrobiums, From Pots to Trees, Attaching Dendrobium Nobiles On Trees Part 1 

Dendrobium Nobiles do better when they are attached upside down 🙃 it has always been recommended to attach them this way by growers. They are very top heavy so it will take longer for them to attach to the tree and it might even harm the canes if they are attached right side up because of the weight.

Beautiful garden Blanca; our compliments. We are living on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, and have a rainy and dry season, sometimes with fierce sunlight. We have many phaleonopsis attached to trees and they are doing well; many are reblooming now. The dendrobium are another matter. One twice started small new canes, then both turned black and died. Another started a flower spike, then the new flowers (and buds) seemed to wilt and drop. Other dendrobium and catelyas just don't seem to grow well. We have been using that commercial orchid strata (mix of carbon, wood chips, etc.) as real Seramis is not available. We have been thinking of using that red garden stone as a medium, but don't think it has the same porous capability. It would be very helpful if you would explain WHERE in your garden you attach your plants? Facing what direction on the tree, full sun, partial, etc. Too much direct tropical sum may be too much; any suggestions? Thanks and best wishes, Jerry and Linda

I have three Dendrobiums I want to attach to my three coconut palms, but I'm worried about the sunlight. I live in south Florida. The Palms are not shaded on the north eastern side of my house. Do you think this is a bad idea? I've never attached orchids to trees before so thank you so much for all of your videos!

Too much moisture for Den nobile hybrids when they are growing? I never let them dry out during the summer (except the couple that are attached on the tree).

Excuse my ignorance but why you put them upside down?

Blanca, have you ever attached a dendrobium on a king palm? How do they attach to the smooth trunks?

Will you water them during the dry season? How often?

Why do you attached them upside down?
