1. Dune pt.2 2. Blade Runner 2049 3. Dune pt.1 4. Sicario 5. Arrival All 5 of his films that I've seen are 9-10 out of 10. They're all incredible and special in their own way. Dune pt.2 is sticking with me in a very special way right now and it feels weird.
This movie was a cinematic masterpiece, couldn’t have asked for a better theater experience. even though I knew the basic idea of what happens to Paul Atreides Denis kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time
Denis Villeneuve is one of those filmmakers where every time he released a new movie, you can point out that new release is his best work and it could be correct for that 🙌
I disagree about Dune having pacing issues. I honestly think Part Two has more of those problems. I rewatched Part One after watching Part Two and it flew by. Every little line had significance and watching it with the context of Part Two was fascinating.
@@AustinBurke I watched the Dune re-release twice and I'll admit, it did feel a little slow at times. But watching it after Part Two, it's like a completely different movie
i also think part 1 has better pacing. part 1 has less action but it the story is so rhythmic. The story just flows. Dune 2’s story doesn’t flow the same way part 1’s does. Its one of the couple flaws with part 2
Oof strong disagree with the pacing in the second movie, unless you’re talking the opposite way in that it’s pace picked up so quick and kept going and going - but to me it was like a really fun rollercoaster instead of an issue. I’ll never understand people saying part 1 had pacing issues, no honey, they’re quiet moments that were necessary - they’re very different things
Denis Villeneuve will have his time at the Oscars, one of these years. You are one of a kind Austin , I love and admire your enthusiasm for Dune Part 2, I saw it March 1, I think it is awesome , we need more movies like this.
My ranking of the ones I know I’ve seen and am sure about how I feel would go: 5. Arrival 8/10 4. Dune Part I 9/10 3. Blade Runner 2049 9/10 2. Dune Part II 9.5/10 1. Prisoners 9.5/10 (this, 2, and 3 among my top like 50 or so favorite movies ever) I plan to watch or in the case of Sicario rewatch the others soon 🔥 Denis Villeneuve is definitely creeping onto my favorite directors of all time list
nice video. i have a few of his movies i still have to watch. i love the two dune and the blade runner movies. you are almost up to 150k users, i was with you from when you were in the low 1000s. i used to post a lot i don't too much any more.

@@AustinBurkeI hope the Academy doesn't do some bullshit like the following to Villeneuve: only awarding him his overdue Oscar if he manages to put out a trilogy à la Jackson's LotR trilogy; looks down upon sci-fi in favour of mostly boring biopics or Hollywood navel gazers; or puts narrative ahead of merit.
“Disgrace”? That’s too strong a wrong word for the type of movies he usually makes versus the competition. The word “disgrace” apples more to something like Eddie Murphy losing the Oscar for all that he did in Dreamgirls to Alan Arkin’s 20 minutes in Little Miss Sunshine where he was just being Alan Arkin.
5. Sicario (B) 4. Arrival (B+) 3. Dune (A-) 2. Blade Runner 2049 (A-) 1. Dune: Part 2 (A) I have seen Prisoners but not recently enough to rank. Planning to watch all of the movies not currently on the list.
Dune,Dune part 2 ,Incendies ,Prisoners ,Arival ,Blade Runner 2049 and Sicario are something special he is now what was Francis Ford Copolla be for 70' master at his best
Here's my ranking: 1. Arrival 2. Prisoners 3. Incendies 4. Dune (will rewatch soon) 5. Enemy 6. Sicario 7. Polytechnique 8. Maelstrom 9. August 32nd on Earth Yet to watch Blade Runner 2049 and Dune 2. Will be done in a week. So excited!
I've tried rewatching Arrival so many times, waiting to love it and I never do. I'm just going to stop wasting my time with it and rewatch Sicario for the millionth time
This is what I love about difference of taste and opinion, you just couldn’t get into Arrival but loved Sicario - whereas I loved Arrival, but just couldn’t get into Sicario. I don’t think I even want to give it another watch, that’s how much I didn’t connect with it
I don’t get why people say that Polytechnic is a masterpiece. It is a good movie, but not something made for rewatchability and doesn’t be the one thing that a movie light or dark should be; and that is entertaining.
Haven’t seen all of his filmography so I’ll rank what I’ve seen. I like all of these movies and love most of them. 1. Dune: Part Two 2. Arrival 3. Prisoners 4. Dune: Part One 5. Blade Runner 2049 6. Sicario
Denis hasn't been able to top Blade Runner 2049 for me, as much as I love Dune Part Two. It's a combination of a number of elements that elevate it. It feels to me like Denis put more pressure on himself to faithfully adapt Dune than he did to tell the best story he could. Meanwhile with Blade Runner, he didn't have to worry about adapting another art form, he could focus solely on telling a story from a script that was designed for the art-form by the writer of the original Blade Runner, as well as Ridley Scott himself. This gave him more freedom to just create a good movie, and he probably had even more pressure which helped him, considering Blade Runner is sacred, meanwhile Dune had never had a good adaptation that he had to live up to. And of course, while it appears like Craig Fraser shot the most visually stunning movie with Denis, it still didn't have the same je-ne-sais-quois that Denis and Roger Deakins have. Roger Deakins is just the master.
1. Dune: Part 2 5/5 2. Blade Runner 2049 5/5 3. Dune: Part 1 5/5 4. Prisoners 5/5 5. Arrival 4.5/5 6. Sicario 3.5/5 7. Enemy 3/5 Still haven't seen is older foreign films even tho I know I need to see them eventually
From what I’ve seen 1. Dune 2 2. Arrivals 3. Blade Runner 2049 4. Dune 1 5. Sicario 6. Prisoners I would have graded at least a 9 for any of them though.
Dennis doesn’t do Sci-Fi, or Drama, or Thriller… he does Character! He’s top ten of all time at pulling incredible performances from his Actors. Arrival can never be topped for me. It seemed he and Adams were on the same page from first frame to last. Punched me in the GUT!
My Rankings: 1. incendies (10/10) 2. Dune Part 2 (9.5/10) 3. Arrival (9.5/10) 4. Prisoners (9/10) 5. Dune Part 1 (8/10) 6. Blade Runner 2049 (7.5/10) Haven't seen his other films so I don't know where I would place it. Will check em out soon.
To me it was attacking where they thought they were but couldn’t confirm…. With just a shit load of artillery. They hit them with everything they had and hoped they were in there. That feels too nitpicky to knock it down regardless (for me)
@@AustinBurke haha I get you, I’m just coming back from my second viewing and it was still great - I am beginning to feel like part one was more my cup of tea, part two is just so action packed and a lot happens, I think it could’ve done with being at least half an hour longer just to flesh out some things more, overall great and can’t wait to watch them back to back in the comfort of my own home! 😄
I just came out of this and…. Naaa not really. It’s better then the first one and it’s a monumental piece of work, but I’ll take Prisoners over this any day. As much as this was faithful to the book, I’ve got to say that my biggest disappointment is the way DV chose to kill off the Baron. I mean…. In the book (and I’m gonna spoil it in case you don’t want to know), Lady Jessica actually gives birth to her daughter, and that daughter stabs the fuck out of the Baron. How grad would it have been? Unclear why he chose to modify that haunting story line…. Could have been such a terrifying death…
I'm sorry for most of you! I didn't find exhilarating or epic Dune: Part 2! The beautiful parts were the cinematography, the special efects and the sound! The story of the becoming a messiah is too shalow, only Javier Bardem was somewhat interesting! I only find good 2 of Denis Villeneuve movies: Prisoners (2013) and Incendies (2010) (I gave them 7 out of 10). All the other of his movies like Polytechnique (2009), Sicario (2015), Arrival (2016), Blade Runner 2049 (2017), Dune: Part 1 (2021) and Dune: Part 2 (2024) are IMO only medium (I gave all of them 6 out of 10).
Y'all gonna hate me for this list but Villeneuve just ain't my guy, sorry: 1-star: 10. Maelstrom 2-star: 9. Polytechnique 8. Prisoners 3-star: 7. Dune 6. August 32nd on Earth 5. Dune Part 2 4. Arrival 3.5-star: 3. Sicario 2. Enemy 4-star: 1. Blade Runner 2049
I don’t agree with Incendies and Sicario, but for Arrival and BR 2049, I can see why, even though I would say these three are close to equal with one another.
Both Dune remakes: 1 and 2 of Dune are trash. I thought things couldn't get any worse than Bladerunner 2049. I was wrong. Dune 1984 is the only great one. Nobody cares about movies anymore because they are woke checklist trash and these films are no exception. They stink, they are bland, the casting doesn't make sense. And there are alot of shills and influencers out in full force like a marketing firm or bots looking to prop it up.
Man. I am getting sick of people like you who whine and complain about everything just because it doesn’t look like something that was made before and double down by bringing in political bullsh*t. I heavily disagree with your ridiculous take. There was NOTHING woke about these movies. I don’t get what you are talking about. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard from an anti-sjw since those incels who complained about Parasite winning Best Picture. Dune from 1984 was not a good movie at all, and is the real one that is trash, not these movies. That movie was so hammy, and didn’t match the tone and story of the novel well. Even the effects, they didn’t look good even for an 80s movie. No matter how much you keep screaming this nonsense, no one will take any of it seriously.
