Join Alex in the studio for a powerful interview with kidnapping and assault survivor Denise Huskins. In 2015, Denise was taken from her boyfriend’s house in the middle of the night. She was held for days, drugged, and assaulted before finally being released by her captors. But when Denise told the police what had happened to her, nobody believed her. In fact, they attacked her. They called her a liar, hoaxster, fraud, and the real life “Gone Girl.” They claimed she’d made it all up for fame and attention. Today, Denise is here to tell her incredible story of overcoming trauma, staying calm in the midst of chaos, and fighting for the truth. This is an important conversation about what it takes for women to be believed, the problem with victim blaming, and how Denise was finally able to reclaim her name and her life.
This episode discusses adult subject matter, including descriptions of sexual violence, and is intended for adult consumption only. Listener discretion is advised. Visit spotify.com/resources for information and resources.

As a male who is studying to be in the CSI and is currently a sexual assault victim advocate, this is a really really good lesson for me. Its make me so angry that the police went straight down the path of not believing the victim. The whole time she was telling the story I was thinking that somebody needs to tell the police fawning is a real response. I can’t wait to get into the field to really really try and help the right way.

Police never believe victims. They just act like they're faking and victimize them further. Its pretty weird considering out of all the people who exist in the world, you'd think cops would have heard the craziest true crime stories and why would you not believe people when they've had traumatic things happen. I don't get it

If I’ve learned anything from true crime stories, it’s that 98% of the time, the police suck.

She just is so strong. I still wonder if the ex of Aaron’s ex had something to do with it bc she said she heard multiple people.

Honestly, our society is so messed up!! If course you can only judge a situation from what you know and the evidence /info your given.... buuuuttt, most of society just goes along with others beliefs and choose to be closed minded to other scenarios that are possible! It's aggravating!! This poor poor women!! I couldn't even imagine going through this and then once you've gotten it off this traumatizing experience, then to have society against you calling you a liar and you've done this for attention!!

Thank you for being so brave Thank you Alex for your platform You are in my prayers Denis. I pray that you are safe, I pray that you are loved, I pray that you feel safe and you feel loved. I pray that you are your beautiful family can live the life that you deserve and that there are angels a good people looking out for you every minute of everyday Listening to your story it made me realise so many different things. Feel so many different things Shocked, disbelief, sad, scared, angry, hopeful What I want to say is that you matter, and this matters We need to do something about this f$&@;n system. About these men who think they have so much power. We need more people like sgt misty, Denis Aaron who don’t give up and fight to get the truth. To see the bigger picture. To just believe I want to do more, we all have to do more ❤

Are you dumb or just high? Because they literally caught her kidnapper & had DNA evidence to convict him. There's also a Netflix documentary about this & how they caught him. 🙄

Denise. I think you should thank the guy that kidnapped you. He made you rich$ The guy even sent emails to the investigator telling them to believe you and that you were not lying.
