I honestly don't get where the game is coming from when it says Denmark lacks good Heavy Cavalry. They've got Feudal/Chivalric Knights, The War Clerics, Huskarls. They have great Heavy Cav. It'd be much more accurate to say they don't have good
Im playing a campaign as denmark at the moment. Im in year 2164 and im still fighting back islamic countries. I spent about 300 years fighting back mongols who captured everything from Nowgorod over Praque down to Frankfurt, Venice, greek and turkey, while fighting england and spain on the other side and capturing america with a few troops. Now im the only christian empire besides Papal States who are also fighting me with like 15 full armies. Spain, Portugal and north africa fell to the Moors, Arabia fell to egypt and turkey and russia where devided between the allies egypt and mongols.
A steamroller faction. The worst aspect, in my experience, is the dreadful voice acting. I mean... it's not just acceptable that, upon selection of an army or fleet, it responds "Da!" like a Russian. Save from that, I found it exceedingly easy to win a campaign with Denmark, but the troops are surely enjoyable.
I gotta be honest, the Danish faction was one of the easiest factions to play as, their infantry is superior to everyone let’s in the game and in no time I had Britain, France and Holy Roman Empire beat.
I always cringe when you talk about the spear militia as if they were useless when it's probably the most important strategic unit. They are cheap and have no upkeep in cities. Can't stress how important that is, especially as the northern regions Denmark starts in are rather poor.
The main strenght of Denmark is that they know how the game works actually. In Med2, heavy cavalry is king, and armored units are far superior to militia. Denmark has a wide ammount of strong armor piercing units, even in early game when is really hard to have access to decent armored infantry, so Denmark can outclass most of its neighbours in infantry since the begining with huscarls and Norse archers. On the other hand, mounted hurcarls replace mailed knights for this faction, and that means that Danish cavalry will lack a heavy lancer unit until you get feudal knights, leaving Denmark in disadvantage in open field battles, where you can not trust in your infantry exclusively. Anyway, once in mid-game the Danish unit roster is really strong adn the faction can match all of its surrounding enemies.
So I'm currently playing a game with the Danes and I'm starting to take over the map, with over 20 regions owned and pretty much every neighboring faction at war with me except for the Papal States (due to having an iron grip on the College of Cardinals, as you do when you properly play a Catholic faction...)
Thank you for these faction videos. I just discovered Total War and Medieval 2. I cannot stop playing! I’m using these videos before going on to the next faction.
great faction if you like infantry, and smashing through the lines of your enemies with big axes. one of the most powerful factions early on as your early infantry is basically better than everyone else's until they start leveling up. Also great if you want to roleplay by conquering Britain and forming a Norse Sea Empire
Viking Raiders, with max armor upgrade and swordsmith upgrade can match any other melee unit in the game, due to their superior unit stack size. I usually stick with them throughout, especially as you gain them so early they also get a ton of experience bonus as well.
