This song is about the never ending battle the Dutch have with the sea. The song says the Dutch will win but in the case the sea wins the watermen will move to a higher plan (a religious thought). Love this song. The story telling ability of Dennie is amazing. Thanks for your reaction.

This is also why a lot of us worry about the rising sea-level due to climate change. Another great song about our Dutch relationship with the sea, is: Trijntje Oosterhuis - De Zee. (The Sea). But I can't find a version with subtitles.

Great version! But look for the original by the 3JS. Their singer is one of the best in the Netherlands. He’s called Jan Dulles, and he also participated in ‘De Beste Zangers’.

Few weeks ago the water surprised us again. A lot of damage was done, water is a big big force. I love this song, but the original song of the 3j's to me is more magical

Haven't heard this song before, but it is a pearl that shines. Such beautiful use of the Dutch language, that really grabs the ever ongoing struggle with water and at the same time embraces it as a fruitful source of life.

In fact the lowest point of the Netherlands is close to my home town Rotterdam, in Nieuwerkerk ad IJssel, it’s 6,76 meters below sea level ! So you can imagine why the Dutch take water serious. Dennie sings it like a Disney song beautiful 😍❤️✌️

Basically, it's a fight song that appeals to the very core of the Dutch. We know the sea is powerful, we know we're living on land below sea level that we 'stole' from the sea with our 'own' hands and we know a lot of people will suffer if a dike breaks. This song is our message to a raging sea: We have conquered this land, it's ours now and no matter how big and scary you are going get, it will not be returned. We will not surrender. To have a German, who are incidentally our favourite frenemies, convey this message so eloquently is a great gift. I know Dennie has been a part time Dutchie for many, many years, but here he shows he really gets us.

to be honest, I don't like water that much, but even me as a Dutchie have tears in my eyes at the moment, don't know why, this song just hits hard, for us little country who is always bin surrounded by the water.

It's a very emotional song, a very beautiful song but it also is a part of all of us. Eventhough we're used to it, we're constantly fighting the water and sometimes it goes wrong as we could see a few weeks ago. But the Dutch will fight back and find the solution for that also.

Realize that almost half of the Netherlands (apart from climate issues) is vulnerable to or already permanently below sea level. Water is such a big part of everyday life struggle for the Dutch, the continuous fight to keep the land dry makes the Dutch "Water People" I would like to advise you to delve into the Dutch "Delta Plan"

I hope so much, you can find the song 'Papa' (Dad) from Stef Bos and like to react to it in Beste Zangers 2020. It is in the last show and 'Suzan and Freek' sings the song for Stef Bos. I listen to it so many times, because it does remember me about my dad who past away in 2011. In the Netherlands is the song very well known by the most of the people.
