Denon's DRA-800H gives you the performance, power, and sound quality you expect from Denon, plus a multitude of streaming and other connection options that'll take your system to the next level.
Denon DRA-800H: www.crutchfiel...
The DRA-800H is built to work hard for years to come. You notice that right away when you take it out of its box, due to its heft and rock-solid feel. Denon uses high-quality internal components, including a discrete power supply and a high-quality digital-to-analog converter.
All those upgraded internals combine to deliver the kind of spacious, detailed, musical sound Denon has hung their hat on for years.
The connections are the key to the usefulness of the DRA-800H. You can stream using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and the receiver can become another HEOS zone, powering your favorite pair of speakers. It'll even work hands-free with your favorite voice assistant.
But what's extremely great about the DRA-800H is just how much stuff you can physically plug into it. It's got digital and analog inputs, including five 4K-compatible HDMI inputs. It's got a phono input and a line-level preamp output. It has one HDMI ouput with audio return channel, making it easy to integrate the DRA-800H into a simple home theater setup.

@@skeet5150 the klipsch speakers have very high sensitivity so you dont need alot of power to drive them.turn the denon volume control up to the 11 o'clock position and your neighbors will know that your denon has plenty of power.your denon 2 channel could even drive a pair of klipsch la scalas but then people living over in the next county would be able to hear the denon's 100 wpc as well.

I believe the length of the wire will be about 15'-16' taking into consideration all the twists and turns the wire will have to make to go down to the floor from the receiver, along the floor behind the entertainment unit, and up inside the stands to reach the speaker. The max length would be 18' but I'm thinking 15'-16' would be sufficient. I haven't even taken the speakers out of the box yet so this is an educated guess! Thanks for helping me figure this out.

Hi Carlos, Most stereo receivers do have additional features and technology built-in, such as WiFi, Apple AirPlay or Bluetooth. There aren't many bare-boned options that do not utilize these features. The Denon DRA-800H does provide you with the features you need in a stereo receiver, aside from the additional features like WiFi and Bluetooth. I have this Receiver, using it solely for Stereo audio purposes for now . Great sound with 2 Speaker outputs : A & B. Tech question for you. I have connected in parallel 2 pairs of Bookshelf Speakers to the B output Speaker connection: 1 pair of Elac Debut 6.2s (rated at nominal 6 ohms), and a pair of Fluances Signature series Hifi speakers that I already had (rated at 8 Ohms) hooked up in parallel. I had no idea about impedance affects as a relative novice with these issues. After playing CDs with both A and B speakers engaged , at about 60-65 volume levels, the Receiver overloaded , overheated and shut down. I have since plugged the Receiver into a separate electrical outlet , and this not occur. However, after playing for for awhile, I did sense the Amp was running pretty warm and could smell the heat ....... Other forum posters told me that this setup will FRY your Amp or end it's life span early. The sound to the B speakers is Fantastic !!! The Fluances and Elacs play together very nicely. Would a Speaker switch box like a Niles or OSC with impedance protection do the trick to continue the paralleled speaker arrangement. Appreciate your advice . THX

We cannot diagnose your issue from here but can try to help. Are you getting any sound from any other audio sources (Bluetooth, HEOS, line-level inputs)? If you have tried alternate sources and checked your HDMI cable connections it is possible there could be an issue internally with the Denon DRA-800H. If the issue cannot be solved, you can reach out to Denon's repair line directly at 1-800-497-8921 to discuss repair options. I hope this helps!

GR, me too. I have this Receiver, I Don't have it connected to my TV. I use it as 2 channel stereo system. The setup is very complicated IMO. To date, now 4 months old and it does deliver ni e clean power to twp pairs of unmatched bookshelf speakers in my Basement Studio, the USB feature is problematic and I am unable to get it to play via zone 2 preouts. In other cheapo equipment which i disconnected which had USB flashdrive play capabilities, was a simple plug n play. Not with the Denon. Number 2 is the aforementioned Zone 2 issues. I spent a half hour on the phone with a tech who could not figure it out. I connected tge preouts to newly purchased Pyle Amp and could not select the Source to play on Zone 2 , for instance, Phono. And when i was able to play a source , it was a very low sound. The Pyle amp has 200 Watts per channel. It was returned , fortunately for Amazon.

Hi Folks. I want to connect my AT-LP120XBT-USB Turntable to the Phono Preamp. That's easy . I set the 3rd Input on the Denon to a devoted Phono input. But I would like to have that signal as a source to "split" to a separate Splitter (Schiit SAGA+) . The SAGA has provisions for 5Line In inputs (with volume control) and 2 Outs - all RCA connectors. I have a TEAC CD unit and a separate TEAC dual cassette deck connected to the SAGA+ and it outputs to 1) a Schiit Loki (a simple equalizer) and 2) it outputs to a Tascam CD Recorder. With these connections I can Play the TEAC units individually and it also send the signal to the Tascam CD recorder so that I can record those signals to CDs without switching wires. I can connect the TT via Line out (the TT has capability to switch to Phono or Line out signals), to the SAGA+ and thus be able to record via the Tascam CD recorder. My question is this: If I use the Denon's Preouts to a separate Amplifier the send that signal to the SAGA+ will I be able to have the TT stay connected to the Denon via the Phono Preamp input and with the Preouts (Zone 2) , the Denon will send that TT signal to the separate amplifier which in turn will be connected to the SAGA splitter. I would like to keep the TT connected via the Phono input on the Denon and be able to record on the Tascam CD recorder without the need to switch cables in order to record LPs? Sorry for the length of this inquiry. THX

dont understand why it has like two channel speakers outputs ?
@crutchfield
@crutchfield Год назад
An AV receiver with multi-channel speaker outputs when only used to power 2 channel audio will still get the Dolby digital or DTS audio tracks that include center channel audio. But without a center channel speaker, that audio won't be played and can make it difficult for some to understand voices. This receiver is built around powering 2 channel system instead of a surround sound system. Its HDMI chips tell the devices to send it stereo audio instead of surround audio channels. So instead of it getting a Dolby Digital audio signal with a center channel speaker audio track containing most of the dialogue, it will get the stereo audio track from the source which has mixed the center channel audio into it.

I purchase this unit from Crutchfield a year and a half ago and thanks to the HEOS network system I have found it to be an over computerized and complicated pain in the arse. Not only to initially set up but every time I want to do something with it I would have to call Crutchfield and have one of their service people run me through how to do things. In fact I still haven't figured out how to program Zone 2 ta play the same source as Zone 1 that I had purchased a second more powerful amp fore. I have also noticed that I am not the only one to complain that the Blue tooth sound is a second behind versus lips moving while watching videos on something it is blue toothed with. A situation that is very annoying. And to top it off a neighbor across the hall from me hooked up her I phone to some spoty thing and all of a suddenly she's turning my Receiver on and off and changing it's channels with out even knowing it... Once again very annoying. If you are a long time audio file like me and simply want to listen to straight up stereo music do not get this or any system that has the computerized HEOS Network, It is more trouble than it is worth.. Now all that being said what really makes me hate this unit is that just last night it suddenly went out, That's right, I've had it a whole year and a half and it's gone out. I was listening to a music CD when it seemed to clip off and shut down like old amps use to do, That's when I noticed that it was hot, And I mean it was really Hot. I unplugged it and let it cool down for a few hours and when I plugged it back in the green light comes on but nothing work. I'm hoping that when I open it up it will simply be an easy access blown fuzz that I can replace. But even if it is and I get it up and running again, I still hate this thing and wish I never would have purchased it. Stereo equipment should not be as complicated as this thing is to set up and use.. And like I said I still need to call Crutcfiled one of these days and have them run me through how to set up zone 2 to play the same source and volume as Zone 1, I purchased an 800 dollar Marantz amplifier a while back to properly power my Polk Audio RTi-7 speakers through Zone 2 and I'd really like to finally get it hooked up and running :/ And what the hell is the deal with manufacturers not putting in instruction manuals anymore ?!!

I would get the Marantz NR1200, essentially the same unit but better looking, with a more compact, slim profile, better heatsinks, longer warranty, slightly less power. Though, you would need double the wattage to get just a 3DB increase in volume. The Marantz power supply says 210 watts, while the Denon is 220. So, not a substantial difference. Then again, the power supply rating is just a rough estimate.

Spindrift2018. Please look at my earlier posts on Overheating the Denon Receiver. I had 2 pairs of Elac Bookshelf speakers (1 Elac Debut 6.2s & the other Elac Debut Reference 6.2s) wired in Parallel to one Channel on the Denon. I have been scolded on Blogs for doing that. The Denon would overheat and shut down at louder volumes. I become less "lazy" and using 14 gauge Copper speaker wire, and ran a second speaker wire from the B channel. So now no longer wired in Parallel ; 1 Pair of Elacs to A Channel & the other pair to the B Channel. What I have learned more about is the OHM ratings of Speakers. The 2 Elacs are rated 4-8 OHMs BUT nominal at 6 OHMs !! Thus when playing together (A & B) that is causing a lower than 4 Ohms draw on the Receiver !! That's where the overheating is coming from. When I had the 2 pairs wired in parallel , the Denon shut down (they have built in Protection circuitry to prevent Blowing It). So I have not have it shut down BUT it is getting Hot!! Moreover, when I had the Denon connected to 1 pair of Fluance Signature Series Bookshelf speakers and a pair of KEF Q350s in lieu of the other Elacs, no overheating would occur!! They are Nominally rated at 8 Ohms , not 6 Ohms. So the combo of these speakers have a combined draw of 4 Ohms which the Denon can handle. Secondarily, Re The Zone 2 ... I have a IOTA SA3 / PA3 stack and an Emotiva A300 AMP connected to the Zone 2 of the Denon. 1 Pair of Elacs connected to the Fluances and the KEFs connected to the Emotiva A300. I think you can control the volume of the Zone 2 Amp with the Denon's Remote control. Checkout the manual. Get it on line and download it as a pdf. In my set up the IOTA SA3 is a Preamp, so that can control the volume of the Zone 2. Hope that's not too confusing.

Yes! That is what we were thinking was causing the issue. 2 pairs of 6 ohm speakers ran at the same time makes a 3 ohm load which is working this receiver beyond its safe limits and causing it to get hot. You can safely run one set at a time, but not both. If you want to run 2 sets at a time, you will need to change all the speakers to models that are rated at 8 ohms.

You should check out Blue Jeans cable. They have reasonably priced speaker cables, along with other digital and analog a/v cords. They have a no BS approach, and would probably recommend 12 gauge wire as all you need, though they sell up to 10- gauge wire. Also, the speaker cable should be pure oxygen free copper, (OFC) as it conducts better than the cheap copper clad aluminum wire. Monoprice has very budget friendly but highly rated 12- gauge OFC.

@@crutchfield The subwoofer would be located within 6 feet of the receiver and connected with a cable. I'm looking to round out the sound a little more than being able to have the bass at party-mode. One thing I have been disappointed in with my receiver and speaker set up is that the sound is a bit shallow and not as full as I would like. The bass and treble controls on the receiver are very narrow in range and don't produce the dynamic changes I was hoping for. Also, a drawback is there is no mid-range control. I am a fan of the high and mid range frequencies which this set up does a decent job producing but I don't want those qualities at the expense of a full rich sound. It would be great if I could adjust the bass/mid/treble for each type of music! My speakers may not be fully broken in, either, as they have no more than about 100 hours on them. By the way, I don't mind answering as many questions as you need to help me get the best sub for my system (and ears!). Thank you.
