I just bought this at Best Buy and this video is thorough and well detailed. Excellent video. Thank you. And now I'm returning it because I can't receive more than 3 fm stations. NEW EDIT: I incorrectly referenced this Denon has an FM problem but I was referencing the Marantz 1200 - NOT the Denon.
Todays built in FM tuners are sadly pretty terrible. There are still sperate stand alone tuners available that are great but they are not cheap. I put a good tv/fm antenna in our attic for FM as well as over the air tv broadcasts and the results are great.
I use my Wiim for fm radio listening nowadays. I get all my local stations and fm stations from around the globe through wifi. No more fuzz. They come through crystal clear. The only negative is having to use the app to change stations. I don't have it connected to a smart tv but a person should be able to download the app to a tv and using the hdmi on this receiver, control everything with the TV remote.
Thank you for your review, it is very complete and detailed, actually everything that I wanted to know and even more. It is a very good idea on paper, for us who need HDMI inputs and new formats decoding, but don't want to spend money on additional channels we won't use. This 2Ch AVR seems solid, but it is probably not the best implementation I was hoping for. I think I am going to be looking at the Marantz Cinema 70s which also has pre-outs, I just need 2 channels so I don't want to waste too much on amplification I don't need.
I have this running a pair of klipsch kg4 and klipsch 12" sub in zone one and a set of kg3 with a polk 10" sub in zone two. This thing rocks my whole household. Sounds awesome with plenty of power. The heos is awesome too. Dont listen to anyone talking bad aboit this amp. Its great.
Read the 7th post at the top of the page and you'll read what my frustration has been.. Only good thing so far is that I did open it up earlier this evening and there is a burned out fuzz that I can easily replace, But still, Why did it burn out after only a year and a half?.. I've done nothing to abuse this thing so why did the fuzz blow, That is now my question.@@louisdrums
I agree 100% with your review, the 100 Watts claim is a blatant lie. I would say for a close listening position 3-4 metres is ok, the power is enough. For movies I had to increase the output of that source, it lacks power. The new emotiva BasX A2 and the cambridge audio CXN V2 could be a good combo replacement for the Denon without braking the bank. Truth being said, for the money it accomplishes quite a lot. I just recently sold mine after 2 years of disappointment . If you take away the bells and whistles this amplifier is incredibly weak and bad sounding . I ended up scoring an 1985 Yamaha R9 at a thrift store that quite simply blows this DENON away that I paid $10 for which is crazy as these regularly sell for $300-$400. I hardly stream or use Bluetooth so it was a very easy decision to EBAY my DENON before its outdated and worth $75 in 2 years from now . All you need is a Bluetooth adapter to turn any vintage receiver into a streaming device that will do everything this POS DENON does with much better sound quality . I literally had to crank this DENON up to about 50% to move my Klipsch RP600m's that I was running at the time while my 1985 Yamaha sounds great at just 5 - 10% gain for my Klipsch as well as my A/D/S L810's . The sound quality of this Denon sucks as well . My parents had a cheap SONY stack entertainment center from the 90's that performed better than this DENON .
EXCELLENT review, I was about to pull the trigger using this stereo receiver as a nice preamp and hooking it up to a more powerful Emotiva amplifier,but knowing that I´m not able to used the bass and treble knobs is completely ridiculous... what were Denon engineers thinking?😐😐😐
Great Review. I purchased this model yesterday and are running a pair of Tannoy Monitor Gold 12 drivers with new crossovers and the sound is great. I do have one question. When I use either the set up menu on the TV or say use spotify that appears on the tv the background has flashing speckles all over it. is this intentional or is this some sort on interference? The picture quality if fine when using SAT/CAB or firestick Thanks in advance
Thank you for the detailed explanation. For music only would you recommend this receiver or the Marantz SR1200 to power 2 LS50s? Marantz is more expensive but apparently has 75w vs the 100w on the denon.
either, the Marantz is same power and they the same company, wouldn't be surprised if the guts are the same. However, i have not tested the Marantz so this is just informal advice.
Great video! I am thinking about getting this AV receiver for my Genelec studio monitors so I can connect my old school Pioneer KRP-500M monitor (does not have ARC), XSX, PS5 and Apple TV 4K. Does losing the ability to change the bass and treble still apply to powered speakers using Zone 2? Any other shortcomings with those pre-outs? Also I have just got hold of Bluesound Node (N130). Does the steaming work just as well with Tidal in Hi-Res with this receiver? Its either this or one of the older Pioneers AV receivers!
I just got mine and boy, the stage of this amp is damn good. I plugged in a pair of elac debut 6.2 and using Deezer HIFI. One thing I simply do not understand is how Amazon HD with flac 24bit (what they say) the sound is so mundane without detail. At least in this device deezer sounds better to me. Also, I read the amp do not have power, well I differ, however remember the higer the impedance the lower the output, at 6 ohms is 120w per channel, and sounds extremely well so don't buy that shit.
It's 215mm in height incl. antennas. I've been looking into this myself as I am considering purchasing one but wanted to ensure it fits in my TV cabinet.

When you show you can have different volume levels at each channel, the legend "via an additional amp" shows up. Can you o can't you play music at different volumes at each zone with this only Denon amp?
Hi, I’d like to ask a Question re: this Amplifier. In the video around 19:02 You show on screen how the subwoofer can be Selected On or Off, Also it says Low pass Filter Is that the Frequency of the Subwoofer ? Can it be Altered to a Lower frequency? The Manual states nothing about this. It just Says the subwoofer volume can be Increased or decreased 12db Thanks in advance I am interested in buying this Soon . I like the Marantz 7000n but it is almost double the price .

On the back of the Receiver says 230W of power consumption... as this is a class AB amp, let´s say 60% efficient, you are probably right...55 to 60W per channel (maximum). There is no magic...
Toroidal have noise reduction and emit less EMI, but personally its not a deal breaker for me, the output stage is more important in my opinion. This is not an amplifier that is meant to compete with best audiophile amplifiers so its a way they can reduce the cost of the unit.

I bought this amp during the Covid Electronics shortage and slightly regret it. I have by no means a "high end system" . Klipsch RP-600m bookshelf speakers , 10 inch Klipsch Sub , Fluance RT-81 Turntable , Sony M555ES CD player. It sounds decent don't get me wrong but it's lacking something . I half to turn the Denon up to 40 to get any decent loudness out of it especially with vinyl . CD isn't as bad . The Denon seems to be lacking in midrange detail also with no way to adjust it . Also lacking in punch at lower volumes . I wanted a Yamaha but was on back order due to covid so I made a compulsive buy which I somewhat regret . Has a lot of bells and whistles as far as Bluetooth and wireless speaker options which is cool for a 2-channel but other than that it's nothing great.
@@Funkbutterfly Its a very good amp . Like my post says it doesn't throw much punch at low volumes , Have to crank it up at least 1/3 to get good volume . I would of rather waited and bought the Yamaha as I personally do not stream music nor need to run blue tooth speakers or really need any HDMI . I listen to CDs and Vinyl so all the extras that the Denon offers I'm not utilizing . So the price point of the Yamaha would of been dedicated to the sound quality and not all the gadgets that the Denon offers. But over all will it run the 600m ? Yes it will . I actually paired my 600m with some vintage 1970 wharefdales , together they sound perfect . The Wharefdales are very warm and the Klipsch is very bright so they blend perfect together.

I purchase this unit a year and a half ago and thanks in part to the HEOS network system I have found it to be an over computerized and complicated pain in the arse. Not only to initially set up but every time I want to do something with it I would have to call Crutchfield and have one of their service people run me thru how to do things. In fact I still haven't figured out how to program Zone 2 ta play the same source as Zone 1 that I have a second more powerful amp fore. I have also noticed that I am not the only one to complain that the Blue tooth sound is a second behind versus lips moving while watching videos on whatever it is blue toothed with. A situation that is very annoying. And to top it off a neighbor across the hall from me hooked up her I phone to some spoty thing and all of a suddenly she's turning my Receiver on and off and changing it's channels with out even knowing it... Once again very annoying. If you are a long time audio file like me and simply want to listen to straight up stereo music do not get this or any reciever that has the computerized HEOS Network, It is more trouble than it is worth.. Now all that being said what really makes me hate this unit is that just last night it suddenly went out, That's right, I've had it a whole year and a half and it's gone out. I was listening to a music CD when it seemed to clip off and shut down like old amps use to do, That's when I noticed that it was hot, And I mean it was really Hot. I unplugged it and let it cool down for a few hours and when I plugged it back in the green light comes on but nothing works, I'm hoping that when I open it up and take a look it will simple be an easy access blown fuzz that i can replace myself. (one week latter) Well I found a blown fuse, Ordered and replaced it, And what happened next? Suddenly I see a little bit of that magical blue smoke escaping from somewhere. And yes, It was a correct replacement fuse This thing is now a $500.00 dollar piece of dumpster feed.. Looking forward to getting a Marantz NR1200 to replace it
i find my denon to be an absolute pain, bluetooth pairs but never connects, the app is super slow but much needed these days but makes me uninstall it because its hopelessly slow. my yamaha can do both fine bluetooth and wifi. my two old yamaha could as well and also way cheaper at over half the cost even pioneer is half the cost of denon, also my pioneer can do bluetooth fine too but just no wifi capabilities, that being said id like denon if they fixed bluetooth and wifi, wireless funtion is a must in 2021. ive seen the app reveiws for apple and android and i think its clear they dont care.

Back in the early 80s when I was in the Air Force I was stationed at Yakota Air Base Japan and I put together my very first kick arse stereo system that I brought back to the states. It was based on the old Yamaha C4 control amp and M4 power amp. (later replaced with the MX830 power amp) Loved it! Lasted me over 20 years too before a channel in the Control amp finally went out... Still got the power amp and it still works just fine some 30 years latter Ya just can't get good dependable straight forward stuff like that anymore.. It sucks
@@Spindrift-id1ez awesome! my first avr was a sony 5.1 with 2 extra mains in 1997, ive never had a 2 channel amp, my aunt needs one, not sure to go yamaha as i hear they are more musical and i think its true in owning avrs but may not not be true going with a denon stereo amp which offers hdmi which other brands struggle to do. yeah im heavy into pc, consoles, avr, tvs and to get them all playing nice together is insanely difficult, the more features and when having to wait for updates that dont come when u buy just makes it much worse. what i find between the brands ive experienced they all have exclusive features. pioneer has the dimmer button and tone controls on the remote, so good. yamaha app has been the fastest most responsive ive ever used. Denon you can turn hdmi control off and leave arc on, so good if u have people that dont want to use the sound system and oled use helps too. id like to try power amp but moore stuff, i need to dial back. i tried a soundbar to dial back on all the gear but i just laughed at the performance difference, sold it off quick smart.

Ya It is nice to have my Tv sound running to my stereo with a digital optical cable and I do have a nice Lenova laptop USB'd to my Tv so i can enjoy my Kpop videos on RU-vid in stereo . But that's it for me. I don't need all that 7.2 whatever total AVR network stuff. Hell I don't even want or own a smart phone. In fact I remember when that C4 control amp went out I drove around to all the old audio stores I use to go to and for the life of me I could not find a replacement 2 channel control amp, Everything was this 5.1 stuff. Finally I found a cheap Denon 2 channel receiver that just happened to have a dedicated pre-out on it that I used as a control amp for many years. That's why when I retired last year and decided to get back into serious audio but was limited in cost by my pension I figure the Denon DRA800 was a sure thing to build on. But nope, It is now dumpster feed and I'm looking forward to trying out the Marantz NR1200 I ordered. I would have liked to purchased something more high end but the days of eleven hundred dollar a piece Boston Acoustic speakers and fifteen hundred dollar Yamaha power amps is long over for me.. I just wish I could get it all in silver, I miss the days when stereo equipment was silver and volume control nobs actually did something. And I still say there is nothing like the sound of an 8 track TEAC reel to reel tape deck with DBX noise reduction... And don't even get me started on the Akai GXF95 cassette deck i had brought back from japan. When recording It automatically did everything for you but give ya a BJ *lol*
@@Spindrift-id1ez that blows about the denon, the nr1200 comes in silver but i spose all sold out. the nr1200 looks really nice feature packed like the denon, im just affraid the marantz will have the same wifi and bluetooth connectivity issues because denon and marantz are super similar under the same roof. marantz is just the high end of denon and more musical. if u decide the marantz pisses you off, you could try a yamaha R-N803D with old school look (in silver) but no hdmi ports, still has streaming and bluetooth dab+, that marantz slimline looks mad though!
towards the end of the video, but sound is so subjective. Its sounds decent. Clear, no problems. Not as good as my old NAD PE amp in terms of the sound stage. My Monitor Audio speakers sound better on my power Rotel. For my TV its excellent, plays well on my Bose 301 for a room size of 25 sq meters.
