Dentist Reveals What REALLY Happens In A Gum Graft!

They don't necessarily have to take tissue from the roof of your mouth, there are options depending on the typr of graft, and there's also pinhole techniques now as well - This procedure is performed by making a tiny hole in the gum tissue. Using specially designed instruments, the gum tissue is loosened and guided over the receded part of the tooth. They are also studying collagen injections for recession. A pedicle graft may be an option if a patient has an abundance of gum tissue, the graft is created from gum tissue not far from the area that requires grafting. Three incisions are made, and that ‘flap’ of gum tissue is stretched over the grafting area like a blanket. There are also alternative grafts where the graft material doesn’t necessarily have to come from a patient’s own mouth. There are tissue banks that dentists can access, as well as tissue-stimulating proteins to promote healing.

i had this procedure when i was a kid after 2 weeks the graft fell out and i gained 2 new phobias: spiders and needles. the periodontist decided to have a plastic spider ring on to get me to look away from the needle and say" the spiders just gonna give you a little bite" he pulled his hand out of my mouth and it was covered in blood. yep that will do it no more spiders and needles for me.

I had an oral skin graft at the age of eight for an already receding gumline. The oral surgeon hacked my mouth to bits. I still have PTSD from the whole experience. The gum they “fixed” ended up receding away anyway 20 years later. I was left with a “pocket” in the front bottom of my mouth where something either wasn’t stitched up correctly or didn’t heal properly. Food sometimes gets stuck in there and causes me great pain. The surgeon didn’t even give me pain medication after the ordeal, they told me to take some ibuprofen. I would scream with pain in my sleep and couldn’t eat solid foods for about month or two. I was in second grade drinking Slimfast to survive. I will never forget the pain and pure torture I endured because my mom just trusted the oral surgeon blindly and didn’t question their ways. One of my worst experiences.

Hi there! I just finished my braces and my dentist said I can wear my clear retainers at night! But I read a lot online that i should wear the retainers 22 hrs a day for the first couple of months. Just a bit confused since my dentist said I just have to wear it at night. Should i follow my dentist and only wear them at night or use them the whole day?

I have bad recession on my lower eye tooth, for over 20 yrs, from braces i had for 6yrs....its showing lots of the root( thankfully its on my lower teeth, so it does not show. I was told by a dentist over 10 yrs ago, i needed this procedure, because it would fall out eventually. 20 yrs later, my tooth is still there, and not even loose...i try to keep it very clean, but brush it gentle. I had a friend get the procedure. Sje said its extremely painful, expensive, and a few yrs later, it receded back!!! Forget about it!!!

My gum grafts are from cadaver gums, so my mouth roof was thankfully untouched.

A periodontist will measure the millimeters of gum recession and if you don’t meet a certain number, they won’t do it. It happened to me. I have to get Novacaine shots with every tooth cleaning and yet my receding gum lines are still not bad enough for them to fix it. Yeah, it’s from years of hard brushing way back when they said that was best circles and brushing hard with hard bristles to boot. So freaking annoyed he wouldn’t do it.
