According to Larry Elder, Denzel Washington is the only person in Hollywood speaking the truth about race relations in America. He may not be a conservative, but he’s got the right perspective when it comes to developing personal responsibility in the home and not waiting around for the government to fix other people’s hatred. He also doesn’t shy away from pointing out the freedoms that we have in the United States compared to other places in the world. Finally, he says, “Put God first.”

You left being a sellout off of your list.
@joannecash7243
@joannecash7243 Год назад
@@xman9190 sir, what do you mean by that? Denzel is not a sell out, nor is Larry. Hard work, church, homework after school, listening in class, these are not unique to white people and Asians. A black child, young man, young lady, has as much potential as anyone. Denzel is right. A dad in the home cuts the chances of a child going to jail or dropping out by more than 70%. Calling. Successful black man or woman a sellout is an excuse to sit back and do nothing with your God Given Potential. If Racists abound…what better revenge, what better triumph than succeeding your self and let them ferment in their own juices, which is what they deserve.
@xman9190
@xman9190 Год назад
@@joannecash7243 Who's assuming those traits are unique to white and Asian people? Apparently, you are. What's problematic about what Denzel said is what he didn't say. Denzel isn't "successful" merely because of his talent or because he had a father in his home. He's "successful" because people who came before him challenged existing barriers that would have excluded him. His answer is a cowardly, political answer that's meant not to offend the mainstream but, it doesn't help achieve progress either. He even prefaced what he said with "it starts with" (meaning that there's more), but that's as far as he's willing to go.

He might actually be more intelligent like you say, meaning a higher IQ, than many/most. But in todays America, simple being a man is a standout performance. Raising your family. Taking responsibility for yourself. Blaming no invisible white cabal. Pointing the finger at no one. But doing for self and refusing to tell the cameras what they want to hear which is that you’re a victim if you’re black and the world is against you. He’s a gem. Larry is another example of a real man. He’s retweeted me before and he responds to my messages. Real good dude.

Our history shows we will work and taught our Kids to be respectful and appreciate our contributions in their lives. When I was raising my Kids. People will say that I never trusted Anyone to watch my Kids. The second I enjoyed being a Human Being. Somebody goes complaining to the Daddy, who I didn't want Child support from on how I am out enjoying Myself. Whoever is concerned should be the baby sitter. I think Parents should get judged on if they help their Kids in School, cooking, cleaning, and discipline. If we as Parents were there for our Kids even when we were tore up. As one who just came home from doing almost 13 years, it was during the middle part of my incarceration that I began to see how I kept finding myself in these situations. So I decided to evaluate my life from day one. Yes I was raised in foster care, sexually abused and abandoned by my mother. So perhaps the early part of my life could be blamed on these factors as to how my life was turning out at that point. But what I realized that I was so much older now but still doing dumb s---. And that it no longer could be blamed on my "past". Rather it was time for me to grow up, take responsibility for my actions and begin to make better decisions, re-embrace my faith and start understanding that the system did not put a gun to my head-Instead, being on life parole, I was continuing to make bad decisions, I was immature and I was very selfish. So I went to work on self and as I embark on my third year of freedom, it has made all the difference in the world.

Denzel Washington is a legend. I have always said it is not the government/school/taxpayer's responsibility to raise/feed/instill morals and discipline into my child. It is my responsibility as a parent to do all those things for my child.
@waylonwhitehead7093
@waylonwhitehead7093 2 года назад
This is true. But what happens when parent's don't do that? Should we let the children suffer? And - how much do we as a society "suffer" (people who are desperately poor turn to crime more often)? I want the best, most economic solution. I am not sure that is just doing nothing in those cases where parent's are failing..
@copiouscareerist
@copiouscareerist 2 года назад
If only that did the trick. To just have always said this and so it is. It may not be the government's responsibility, but as an ex teacher, it becomes our responsibility and we aren't paid extra to do so. If you've never taught (have you?) then it's harder to wrap the mind around. If you left the teachings of morals, etc. and trusted all parents all of the time, well, look at how well that has gone. It has come to the point and it's been that way, that someone else DOES INDEED need to be involved. The teachers are with these children sometimes more than the parents....actually, OFTEN. To educate in certain areas that are sometimes purposefully being overlooked at home as well as teaching children the basics on how to be a good kid going forward....these things are not often focused on at home. Parents are selfish, parents are tired, etc. etc. And I'm just talking about the ones who have parents to begin with. I love Denzel and Morgan Freeman. However, I believe they now talk from a place of privilege and forget what it is like and/or haven't done the work in order to really SEE the truth. If they were still struggling, their answers would be wildly different.

@fenwayify
@fenwayify 2 года назад
Skin color shouldn't matter, only character, but in reality it always has. It mattered in Rwanda, simply by the "shade" of skin color and it clearly has and still does in America. Discrimination is actually a biological asset, that can literally mean survival. Unfortunately, such distinguishing ability can also lead to horrific applications, like slavery. The idea that America and its systems are no longer affected by skin color is not born out by the data...
@overexplainer151
@overexplainer151 2 года назад
@@fenwayify you’re not entirely wrong in that humans naturally fear what’s different. that doesn’t mean they can’t overcome that though. the u.s. for some reason is just trapped in a never ending circle of race issues. you guys view everything through the glasses of race. you guys still believe in race. in other countries, racists are not the people who have negative judgements upon members of different races, but rather people who are convinced, that there is enough difference between people of different ethnic heritages that goes beyond the cultural and superficial biological ones, to actually speak of a different race of human. hence the name, racist. like a fascist believes in fascism, a racist believes in race. but in north america everybody seems to think like that. and the few hippies who hold signs with “one race“ or whatever are not what i mean because they’re also of the opinion that there are races, they just act like there could be utopia where everyone to be happy which each other. im aware that there are scientific opinions who oppose this, in germany and france f.i. those are only represented on the extreme right, im not a biologist so i can’t say if it’s right or wrong. but i can say that i had friends with different skin colors and cultures since i was a child (africans and arabs) and the only differences that go beyond appearance i could ever make out are cultural and behavioural. i’m not saying those countries are free of racism (racism as in your linguistic usage) but those problems are merely due to culture clashes and the miserable failure of the governments in integrating the huge mass of refugees. regarding rwanda, you’re just misinformed. tutsi is the word for stock farmer, hutu the word for crop farmers. in the late 1800s the tutsi became increasingly socially superior due to geographic expansions of the state borders. the twa (hunters) were completely unaffected from this whole development. the german and later the belgian colonialists we’re the ones who assumed that there was a racial background to the social inequalities, but there factually was no difference in heritage or race between the groups. tutsi and hutu became (due to the social constellation) something like synonyms for ruling and ruled. the reasons for the civil war were oppression and inequality of opportunity. not race. because there was and never has been a racial difference, also not a “shade“ of skin color.
@fenwayify
@fenwayify 2 года назад
@@overexplainer151 Thanks for correcting me on Rwanda. I had a cursory understanding of the war and had assumed the distinctions between Hutu and Tutsi were ethnic or skin shade, but now see that was a myth promoted by colonizers. At any rate, the point I was trying to convey is just that racial issues still exist in America (and elsewhere), as they have since our founding. Endlessly emphasizing the subject of race may become counter-productive, perpetuate or even exacerbate divisions to some degree, but ignoring or denying that issues remain doesn't seem ideal either. I also don't believe such a stance will move the needle much and lead to meaningful change. For Denzel and Morgan and Oprah, they have transcended race, at least in terms of work, but in many, many areas, glaring inequality persists and more work needs to be done.
